Tips:

• Use smaller paper. I tried it with regular origami paper and couldn't do it, then I cut it into fourths and it was much easier.

• Use very different colors. Otherwise, it's hard to tell the difference between them.

• Fix after putting in every piece.

i made a mini butterfly ball! it used 6 units,stayed together, and its easier to assemble =) it also had no space in the center like yours i made the mini cuz i couldnt assemble the normal one =) lol

Jo you should try making the waterbomb base with only 1 verticall fold instead of 2,

that way it's easier to assemble if they are kinda flat,they fit together much easier then,and the fall looks better (no holes on the sides)

@beth1420 I guess it all comes with practise, you being 9 will help alot as you can adapt and pickup things alot quicker than adults. You can learn some online and stuff but I think the best way of learning them is through books. But some of the diagrams and stuff can be confusing with some of the folds :S well least for me lol

it's easy but hope you don't mind if i point 1 fact: u make the 2 diagonals and then you make only the horizontal crease without the vertical one and then form a waterbomb . the diagonals are mountain folds the horizontal is a valley fold. it will look nicer...
