I heard this song for the first time about a month ago. I love it, Im always playing it. I know he sang mama use to say, but I dont recall hearing this song in the 80, either way its the shit!!
Junior is still just as good today. Fantastic voice and should still be right up there. Still looks great and has never really aged. Junior my friend big love to u and ur lovely daughter x
This guy was so fantastic; had great musicians who knew how to create a driving beat. I chair dance at work all morning and don't really care who sees. If they're not hearing what I'm hearing, they're really missing something.
OK, people. Something that you didn't know. Music like told a "STORY" about some type of relationship......but today's music DOES NOT tell nothing about anything has NO meaning and make NO sense. Today's music makes no sense has no meaning bunch of garbage. NO wonder relationships are so screwed up
@mccarmb they make them like this, but you won't find it in the mainstream. you may have to go to the ends of the earth to find it, but it is still out there.
@ukendcx2000 The only modern artists in this league today, to name a few are Incognito, Carleen Anderson, Omar, Ed Motta, The Beauty Room, Quintessence, Drizabone, D'influence, Sharon Jones, Fried...no doubt there are a lot more but these are standout artists to my ears.
@dtviking Channel 50 on XM Radio/Satellite Radio. They changed the stations around a few months ago. When you mentioned the "Groove" were you talking about XM Radio? If not, my bad! lol
When I talk to people in my age group about music, we always end up saying where has all the good music gone. The answer is it hasn't gone anywhere as long as we keep remembering it!!! heyroz27 keep posting so we are sure not to forget!!!!!!!!!
I was driving my 2009 Cadillac CTS last night and decided to turn on the XM radio the 'Groove' station and the Brothers Johnson "Strawberry letter 22" was jamming. I was "buggin". Then it went off. Then a low volume of this jam was phasing in. I was like "this is not what I think it is"....I almost lost control of the car on the Jersey icey streets. I pushed the Bose up louder than I have ever in a car. WOW....Yes!! I pulled over to seat dance. Got home and Googled it. Awesome.
This tune was ahead of its time for standing against spousal abuse. Probably also explains why it wasn't a bigger hit...Junior was getting all up in the fellas business.
I remember this song, I was 14, and it was the summer, and used to jam to this.
Little did I know, but the lyrics to this song didn't paint such a pretty picture for whoever may have been going through this ordeal or anything close to it. Let's pray for victims of, or in this type of situation thats portrayed in this song. However on a better note, the lady thats portrayed in the song had enough sense to get the hell out of the situation didn't she!
Man o man! To be 8 yrs old again, listening to this on the radio in the morning getting ready for school. Tom Joyner was on WJPC in Chicago, and Bob Wall was on WGCI. Happy happy times!
I really liked this song, hard to believe it's only because of the tube i have heard it again, this was the follow up to Mama used to say, itself a classic, but this is one super song, brings back memories of a happier time..thank you for posting heyroz27
Claasic choon...played on the airwaves 24/7 in the N.Y.C.
Had cats runnin or shall i say skatin to the dance floor.
I smile as i recall old friends & family members jammin..
What a time & place in music..WOW i never really understood how good MUSIC & LIFE was back in the day....Thanks for the stroll down good ole memorylane!!
Banging bass line and hand claps make the opening of this jam the driving force of moving me to dip and shake from side to side with my fist closed and my bottom lip tucked in my mouth eyes closed while the grove causes my upper body to move in time with the music again no samples real talent from a real music maker. THANKS JUNIOR
Love this song! It Got less airplay than "mama used to say", but that's what makes a song a real hidden gem! Brings back memories of the early summer in 82 riding ithe NYC subways to Brooklyn on the D train to Coney and the A train To Rockaway Beach. Remember when you had those boom boxes playing on the subway platforms or the subway cars as you got closer to the last stop on the beach! Thanks for putting it here!
I heard this song on the radio today in San Diego and it brought back so many memories of when I was in 11th grade at Amityville High School in Long Island. This is a real OLD SCHOOL Jam!! Great memories!
I recently heard this song. Prior to hearing this, I hadn't heard this, since I was 4 years old (1983). I was thinking to myself, this sounds like the guy, who sings, "Momma Used to Say", and I was right.
I like this version of Junior's Classic Too Late. Has that 80s flavor and original, not that crap they're selling on iTunes and Amazon. Buy the original Junior songs and not the heavy redid synthesized sound you get on Amazon or iTunes.
DJ played this in a mix on the radio this past weekend and said " when I play this song y'all gonna snap" and he was right. when he played it I JUST LOST IT. I forgot this song existed!! Great Cut!!!
I remember when I first heard this song. I had to stop dancing and listen to the words. I had three copys of it and all of them were stolen. I'm trying find this one to buy.
this shit takes me back to when shit was real growing up as a kid on a serious block in pittsburgh..shit was no joke..7 bars open on my street at one time 2 doors away from each other...all kind of action takin place...i was a kid but i paid attention to the realness tho..watching the old heads and shit doin big things...all that shit i definitly soaked in...made me ill nigga as i got older...now that its all gone..i got joints like this to reminisce to..good lookin on this yo
Thanks 4 posting this jam! Man does this 1 take u back! I'm understanding how the adults felt when they heard their jams from the mid 50's and early 60's. The circle of life huh? LOL!!!!
I remember breakin' it down (dancing) back in the day, I was fresh in the USAF, just fininshed basic training- we were actually allowed to go to the airmen's club....ahh, fun was had by all!!!
Junior was the start of the Black British invasion. Hearing him speak on Soul Train was my first time hearing one of us speaking with a british accent. I think it caught everyone in the audience off guard even Don chuckled. This was a bonified cut tho!
Quite a few. Loose Ends, Hi-Five, Terrence Trent D'Arby, Billy Ocean, Soul 2 Soul, I believe the group that made "It's just an illusion." I think they were called Imagination. Dude who sang "Return of the Mack." I'm bad at names excuse me. Anyone have any others to add please join the convo. And yes most are by way of the Islands but I still consider them part of the British invasion.
@TeeEye84Plus Other brit acts of this period are Cool Notes, 52nd Street and Total Contrast to name a few quality acts. Also checkout Incognito and Junior's group Lynx, brilliant stuff. If you want brit Hiphop check Hijack and Demon Boys.
Can anybody name a R/B Band that came out in the last 10-15 years like The Ohio Players.Kool &the Gang,Slave, BT Express,Midnight Star,Earth, Wind & Fire,Gap Band,Lakeside,Isley Brothers,Brother Johnson,Chic,Change,New Birth ,L.T.D.,Commodores,Brainstorm, Ready for the World,Mandrill Rolls Royce,Brass Construction.MFSB,Issac Hayes,Curtis Mayfield,Mac Band,Looses Ends,Arrua,Black Byrds
I love Junior! I dug this jam better than Mama Used to Say (although it was a bigger hit)! Sadly, the lyrics still pertains to continual domestic abuse of women.
my dad is pretty much my musical ifluence i pretty much know every song from the 1960s to the now he is always letting me listen to all the old songs and old school from like ohio players earth wind and fire to Barry White and al green jsut pretty much every genre let me include The Police Duran Duran Gino Vanelli Led Zepplin pretty much all the best songs of the century dont let me forget to add James Brown in there that boi can dance

Graduated from high school in 1981. This was HOTTTT!!!!!!!!!! when it was out. Blew our minds when he was on Soul Train with the British accent.

I love Junior! I dug this jam better than Mama Used to Say (although it was a bigger hit)! Sadly, the lyrics still pertains to continual domestic abuse of women.
