sweet beats. you lose sound when you do backsticking tho. like when you did the claw. try to even it out. watch casey do it. other that that it was sweet
More formally, that move is called the "Paw Claw" and was started/discovered in Macon Georgia by Sam "the Stick" Johnson. This guy is actually starts from the opposite stroke.
Actually, I thought it was called the Casey Claw. The Casey Claw was invented by Mark Casey who marched the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps in the 90s. He had the whole line doing. I could be very wrong though.
your mostly right but i'm pretty sure what he does is called the cavi claw everyone thinks there the same but i'm pretty sure there is a difference and if it isn't formally reffered to as different people should start
@ atomikfzr1. That is called the claw. take your right hand and grab the middle part of the stick. Now hit the butt of the stick on the head and twist your wrist and hit the bead of the stick. do it slow, the faster your get it should sound like a double stroke roll. Hope this helps.
evrey1 seriously needs 2 stop tellin drummers wat we do is easy. id like 2 c evrey person who says wat we do is easy and that we're not musicians play our music.
man ive been playing snare for about 4 years now and the first thing i noticed is his pinky on is right hand he does an excelent job the way ehs playing but the pinky can ruin sound quality so fast
Just because he's using one drum doesnt mean its not complicated.
That and I'm pretty sure doing that spread across a drum set would not sound very good because of stylistic differences that the marching snare and the traditional kit are used for.
this one is way better than the other one

@thewease47 Actually it takes a huge amount of practice to do just that, "flail" the stick in a certain way.

Correct me if I'm wrong. But 0:48 is a one-handed Bear claw? According to what I learned from Jim Campbell anyway.

It's so refreshing to see snares rely on good rudiments and skill rather than visuals.
