  • This video makes me smile so hard. TMBG are the best ever and I love them.

  • TMBG didn't write this song...it was "The Four Lads"...check it out!

  • TMBG is the only bee in /my/ bonnet.

  • I love that he says "a song that we certainly hope you aren't tired of hearing yet." It's been 20 years and I'm still not tired of hearing it.

  • You gotta love a band that flabbergasted the A&R reps so much.

  • I just saw these guy's in November, they were freaking AWESOME!!!

  • totally killer Oakland A's jacket by Flans

  • This song's about a nightlight... come on now! lol

  • @Antimatter245 +1 :)

  • Their wackiness, their lyrics, the joy that Birdhouse (the second song) brings, John Linnell's awesome voice, Flansy's crazy screaming, that's what I love about They Might Be Giants. You're entitled to your own opinion, but that's just why TMBG is my favorite band and will always be my favorite band.

  • Thanks for your reply. That's what most of their fans tell me. I'm all for wacky lyrics but I have to have some idea what they're talking about. I can't figure out what the subject is of hardly any of their songs.

  • Then you obviously have a simple mind.

  • Damn, maybe you're right. I mean, there's no WAY I could have deduced that about someone from a single Youtube comment about musical taste. I wouldn't even know where to begin!

  • And they have every right to be - TMBG ROX

  • 1:44-1:54

  • Thanks very much! This is one of the videos that made me a fan about a year and a half ago.

  • No matter what year it is, TMBG always have ridiculous hair.

    ALWAYS

  • Israel was once palestine...

  • ooo some of my favs :)

  • Linnell scared the hell out of my friend with that scream. I see Flansy been keeping up with his jumping beans prescription.

  • This is so fucking magnificent

  • EPIC

  • This is the BEST.

  • Who's playing drums for the birdhouse song?

  • drum machine. they didnt have a band back then.

  • probab;y a drum machine since they didn't have a full band till later

  • "People...just liked it.......BETTER THAT WAYYYYY!!!!!"

    Whooooooooooo!!! Screamo!!!

"NOOOOOOOOOOO you can't go back to Constantinople..."

    Awesome!!!

  • TMBG are awesome there will be no one like them ever

  • @TheJamCouncil15 exsept lemon demon

  • awesome.Pure awsome

  • Haha, he's apologizing in 1991 for playing Birdhouse too many times already.

  • This was actually recorded in 1990 at Camden Lock.

  • lol, if only he knew.

  • 03:55 ALWAYS NEAR.

Listen to that part over and over.

    HIlarious.

  • It's always NEEEEAIR!

    LOL.

  • BEST

  • they seem nervis

  • I know. Its funny.

  • Linnell was always kind of reserved at performances and Flansburgh always jumped around a little more, but recently it's gotten ridiculous. I saw them in September, and they played great, but Flans was just stomping all around the stage yelling random stuff, and Linnell looked positively bored. He seemed to be thinking "All right Flansy, just do whatever you gotta do and I'll just kinda play my keyboard over here." Sad, but at least they're still great.

  • I think the instruments they're playing contributes to that, too.

I can imagine how hard it would be to jump around while playing keyboards, or accordion.

  • Well, if he really wanted to be more free-moving he could do what Weird Al did and just get a smaller accordion.

  • I wish they were still like this.

  • Wow...they were so ...young.

    I hate time.

  • This is probably the best live performance I've seen from They Might Be Giants on youtube. Oh god, they're so awsome =)

  • I second that.

  • This is incredible! Where did you find this? This isnt from tale of two johns?

  • I wish they never would have gotten the full band backing them up, they are so amazing by themselves.

  • I agree

  • True. True. True.

  • true this sounds wayy better

  • Now I feel old... everyone keeps commenting that these older clips are from the years when they were born. I remember my sister bringing home a copy of Flood in 1990, then getting Apollo 18 for Christmas in 1992. I was 10 then.

  • makes me sad watching videos of them playing recently and then watching them playing in the year i was born

they've gotten so much older!! just seein young linell sing his heart out brings a tear 2 my eye!!!

  • I feel kind of bad for them...they look...so...insecure...

  • it's just you. ;)

  • What's Flansburgh screaming in the middle if Istanbul? :S Lol.

  • Gregory: Nice life. Marked as spam, as if it hadn't been already...

  • fuck you TMBG is the best

  • Clearly a fan of Nickleback.

  • you know, for someone who doesn't like them, you sure do seem to watch a lot of their videos.

also, is it that hard to check your spelling, dear?

  • People just... liked it... BETTER THAT WAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow, I can't believe Linnell thought people were getting tired of Birdhouse in Your Soul in 91. It's 2007 now and people still can't enough of it.

  • I wish I could describe how that makes me feel. Thanks SO much for posting this. I'm going to go melt now.

  • They make the funniest songs. xD

    I love them.

  • "make the house, Mr. Flansburgh"

  • Just never get sick of listening to this song, even 17 years later

  • i love this songgg but why does he scream sooo funnny hahahaha

  • random things that make the show funny.

  • These guys are the best. I love TMBG!

  • "make the house, Mr. Flansburgh"

  • yeah the crowd didn't even seem to like them... besides that they're great as always

  • The crowd didn't seem to into it.. Good quilty though! I alway enjoy TMBG.

  • Hm, Birdhouse in a different key...sweet Jesus! Well, different from the old standby recording on Flood.

  • It still sounds good nomatter how different the key change. It's like that to listening to an 8-Bit Nintendo game from Europe/UK/England compared to here...Same difference, but still kick'n hot!:)

  • That's the fastest I've heard Istanbul sang.

  • no but seriously, why did Constantinople get the works?

  • Turks took over

  • sweet

  • Love the vid but what's with the Japanese subtitles? Was this on TV over there?

  • Don't know where this recording came, but this two song set was recorded at Camden Lock in London for a UK television show called 'Rock Steady' in 1990. I know - I saw it live.

  • yes.. john linnell is certainly hot indeed. Some times i can't even understand how one band can be so great

  • John Linnell is hot.

  • That was really fantastic. This is the best video of them playing as a duo I've seen.

  • haha. This is great. I was in the Marine Corps, love TMBG and listened to these songs in Africa and Persian Gulf all those years ago. Thanks for the post!

  • This a gold mine

  • This video is so completely awesome! Speechless! Flans rocks the guitar! Hard to believe it's 16 years old. LONG LIVE TMBG!
