Ya shodda been there...Bamberg, Germany 1964 U.S. Army Enlisted Man Club ... Eddie Spenser and his group from Grimbsy, England could sing this song like Garnet... wasn't too shabby for a white boy. The whole place went wild...I mean really wild.
Truly appreciate your response...just to add, when Eddie sang this song, it literally brought the house down... and the place was packed. Never before have I seen such camaraderie between back & white sharing in Garnet' song. It's amazing that I can still vividly recollect this after so many years... even during thoes turbulent times of the 60's, we shared a common respect for each other.
If you remember this...and the slow drag...then, stay blessed and feel that love that might've lasted for a moment..."or, perhaps'till death do you part ".
I don't know what it's got but I loved it when I first heard it when I was 12 and still do after all these wasted decades I have to say it sounds as good as ever Maybe it fit me back then "you made A fool of me so many times" CRY BABY! i GUESS MOST KIDS THAT AGE HAVE BEEN PLAYED BY THE POWER OF LOVE AND DESIRE .LETS YOU GET PLAYED AGAIN AND AGAIN
hi, my, my goodness.what a post!!! their "MASTERPIECE" and the great Garnett Mimms was the "CROWN JEWEL" this track can still wet the old eyes.F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C. thanks for the memories and the fun. Tom D
I wish this type of music would come back. I remember loving this all my life. I had forgotten how absolutely this was. Thanks so much for sharing this fantastic old song and performer.
Sorry (spelling)... I meant "call-and-response," and not
"cal-and response."

The backups on this song, as well as on most of Garnet Mimms'
hits, were not actually any "Enchanters." They were the Drinkard
Singers, with Cissy Houston (Whitney's mom) as the leader, and
the group where Dionne Warwick began. They later morphed into
the Sweet Inspirations and went on to become back-ups for
Dionne, Aretha, Elvis, Wilson Picket, etc. Dionne was also a
tour stand-in for the Shirelles... again, back then; very late '50s
and early '60s.

@SouLoveReal Interesting...thanks for the info!

@Nocaro ...Also, back in those days, women, unless they
were the singer or the songwriter, were rarely given credit
for their contributions to a song. Cissy contributed that gospel
cal-and-respone of "Come on, yeah, come on, yeah." It is also
featured in Mimms' "Baby Don't You Weep," and then in Cissy's
re-make of the Ronettes' "Be My Baby."
