one of my favorites great lyrics been to every tour in miami from the joshua tree tour to vertigo tour and counting went its all said and done no other band in the history of music will get close to u2. every album is a masterpiece u2fan for life.

He wrote this song about his dad after he passed away. They didn't get along very well most of the time and I think it's obvious he still feels bad about it.

He actually wrote this well before his Dad passed away. The album had come out nearly a year before Bob passed away in August 2001 and they performed this at Slane Castle the weekend of Bob's passing. It was always dedicated to him though. It was actually Sometimes You Can't Make it on Your Own that he wrote after his Dad died. They performed a rough version of SYCMIOYO for the first time at Bob's funeral in August 2001.

Almost correct. His dad passed away during the Elevation-tour. But he did write it for his dad who was seriously ill and about to go, you got that right ;-)
