i need help, when im on pivot and i try to make the sailboat it keeps saying stykz has encountered an error. this happens when i try to make anything!help!
Im not counting which was made first, all because it was first dosent make it best. Im saying that out of the two programs, Stykz is just better in my opinion, Pivot is good though.
I must have interpreted the comment wrong. I thought you said pivot was ripped off of stykz...when I said it's the other way around...I meant styks was ripped off of pivot. I'm not saying it is, that's just how I see it though.
Thanks - I'll be revising it and updating it for 1.0 when it's officially released (hopefully before Christmas). Those videos are almost a year old so there's a lot of stuff that's not covered in them that I want to get on video.
Oye, solo se cambia el formato. Por ejemplo: si despues que le exportas a tu animacion, dice e.j. animacion1.mov solo le tienes que cambiar a las letras para que digan animacion1.mp4
Espero que ayude.

Aren't I awesome?
Mira el video mio que dice: "Stykz Short - FIGHT!"
You click somewhere on the stage that's not on a figure, and the Properties palette will show "Stage Properties". The rest is pretty self-explanatory.
Yes, you can download it from the main Stykz web site, but the program was not tested with Windows 98; the earliest version tested was Windows XP (although someone who has Win2K told me it works). You can download it and try it out; if you have enough memory it might just work.
There's too much to list here, but here's a few items: - individually colored line segments - ability to select and move multiple sticks - copy and paste one or more sticks - a "polyfill" tool that lets you create filled areas in a stick super-easily - export to Quicktime .mov - you can edit sticks in place and manipulate invidual segments any time you want without having to make a new figure - you can shift figures or segments to front, to back, forward or backwards 1 layer
You can add any number of figures you want, and create your own... not sure why you said that (unless you're thinking of Dimp Animator, which is a Mac-only stickfigure tool that doesn't let you add figures yet).
When you downloaded them, they had names like "12345678.zip". Unzip the file, then in Stykz choose "Import Pivot .stk File", select the file you unzipped, and click "OK".
NOTE: This only works with Pivot 2.2.5 .stk files; Pivot 3 beta .stk files are not supported yet, and you'll get an alert about this if you try to import one.
I'm sorry, but unless you can find a Pivot 2 version of what you're looking for, you're going to have to wait until Pivot 3 is supported in Stykz, which is several months away.
ok but how do i supose to get other cool things to stykz if i kneed the version 3 of pivot to get it i tryed to get an explosion or something and then it says: -you can not use this explosion thing because this version of pivot just inclues the version 1 and 2 of pivot to use this explosion thing you kneed the version hoe inclues the pivot 3 two. ???
how do i get effects? when i go to droidz and put it in my desktop he says that i cant put it in stykz because its just for a version hoe inclues the pivot version 3 beta that meen that it is other version?
when i start it up those dots arent on his body so i dont know how to get the dots on and i cant move him without those dots please reply on how too!!!
You can switch between Edit and Preview mode in the View menu. If the dots aren't showing, switch to Preview mode, and then back to Edit mode and they will reappear. This bug will be fixed in the next build, due out in a day or two.
Yes, of course I do... it's the figure that automatically displays when you create a new animation document. Apparently you haven't gone into the Preferences - you can change what the default figure is that is used for new documents, one of which is the Pivot 2 figure.
You can always pick the Pivot 2 stick figure as your default if you want to. Or if you like, you can send me a better one and I'll consider replacing the one that's there.
stykz is like a dream come true. thank you thank you thank you.
i am familiar with blender and flash, but come on - starting an animation with an idea in your mind and then-a few clicks to much and then the complexity of these apps destroys everything. it`s much to much...
stykz has everything you need and it runs on mac. i love it.
I heard Peter Bone gave you scource codes. I like it, and I do think it should be in an all-in-one window like pivot. It would be good to be able to open .stk files too.
That's certainly your choice... but I'd be very interested to hear: what would make Stykz easier to work with? I have plans for adding a single window option instead of multiple palettes, but what else would make it easier/better?
i wouldnt say its extremely complexed it is actually quite simple not for example flash which has a very confusing base however im going to give stykz a proper try to see what potential it has.
If you're using a Mac, it's the Option key that's to the left of the Command key (the one with the cloverleaf symbol). If you're using Windows, you'd use the Alt key instead.
We're working to make things easier to understand/use... remember that this is still in Beta, so until the 1.0 is released officially on April 30, there's still a lot of fixes left to do.
The "simple" part, I think i understand... what do you mean "smooth" like Pivot?
Sorry 4 being so harsh, i love the program and how much effort u put in2 it. I was acting like an idiot.
Anyway by smooth, I mean how it doesn't lag as much. U can manipulate the smoothness of the animation better. Like for instance moving the figure while holding enter is a quick way to animate when u dont want to worry in the details.
No harm done... :-) I just uploaded a new version of Stykz (Beta Release 2 for WIndows/Release 4 for Mac) that has a bunch of performance improvements in it; give that a try and see if it helps out!
To make another figure you can either right-click and drag in an open area of the stage, or you can pick a starting figure or "single node" from the Figures menu.
I strongly suggest you look at the "Notes for Pivot Users" in the Help menu; the three pages there will show you how to create and manipulate segments/figures.
Backgrounds are currently a flat single color that affects all frames; of course you can use figures for your "background".
What I meant was that you can create a scene (like a city scene) with segments and circles like any other figure, and then just make sure it's on every frame behind the actual stick men (or whatever your animation's about).
There should be a Help link at the top right of the YouTube page - it has instructions on how to upload. My suggestion would be to output your animation as a QuickTime movie and use *that* to upload to YT.
this program is great it would be nice to have different colored background in different parts of the video you are awesome by listening to our suggestions instead of just making the program.
The only thing I ask everyone is to *really read* the announcements I post and any windows that come up when you install or launch Stykz... you'll save yourself some potential frustration if you're fully informed. I'm going to try and get a kind of "quick tut" done before then, but if not, you can always watch the vids at stykz-dot-net or here on YT. They're a little old, and they don't cover everything, but you can learn a lot.
My current plans are to try and release the Win Beta on or before 2:00PM Central time on Saturday, but for sure you'll know that it's been released either (a) because the main web page at stykz-dot-net announces it (and the link no longer says "Internal Beta" but says "Public Beta" and has a download link), or (b) you read an announcement here or at the Droidz or DarkDemon threads that the Public Beta is available.
That's the intention! I designed it to be a superset of Pivot - basically able to do everything Pivot can do, plus more. I've pretty much hit that goal (although sprites aren't there yet), so I'm really happy with the way it's turning out.
Tweening is on the list for 2.0, but physics is a whole 'nother matter... that's a lot of code and most likely won't make it into Stykz (but I may end up making another app or something if I'm going to do any physics).
Remember that the "official" 1.0 of Stykz hasn't been released yet; but if all goes well, the Linux version of 1.0 will be out in a few months, so 2.0 will most likely be out by the end of the year.
Just wanted to tell you that Stykz 1.0b2 (Beta 2) for Mac has just been released. You can go to the main Stykz web site to download it, and FYI just below the download button at the bottom of the screen there's a link to the release notes that will tell you about all the things that were added/changed/fixed in this build.
NOTE: I'm having some trouble with my ISP, so the "Check for Updates" feature in Stykz 1.0b1 doesn't work - you'll have to go to the web site to DL it.
BTW, if you look on the properties palette in part 2 of the video, you'll see checkboxes for Static and Hidden; if the static checkbox is off, the segment is dynamic, and if it's on, the segment is static.
Thanks for the comments. I think you may have missed part of the video; although I didn't call attention to it, Stykz has static/dynamic/hidden segments just like Pivot - and beta 2 (which will be out next week) will handle the hiding of static nodes properly when you click off of it. There are only a couple of features that Stykz is missing from Pivot, but it adds many more features that Pivot doesn't have: indiv. colored segments, polyfill tool, layering segments inside of a figure, etc...
