He definitely was influenced by John Carpenters scores. Go back and listen to Assault on Precinct 13, Halloween and Escape From NY. then listen to a lot of NIN and the Social Network. Very similar stuff.

I come back to this music as one who goes back into a museum, my personal museum, of a time when I was sick with sadness. I just realized ,once again, that there is still too much to remove for though I feel disgusted and scared when I listen to his music; there is something yet that beckons me to those emotional places. This music was made not only to entertain you but to kick you in the face. I will know I am OK when I stop listening to him.....Sad, sickening music. It was useful, though.

i love how Trent has grown into his age, yet he is still Trent - minus the drugs and smashing insruments, but still with the torn jeans and laid back demeanor. The music industry does NOT deserve him.

No but we are blessed that he is focused enough to share his exceptional musical talent w/the people who know what good music is. He has ruled, the past 20yrs. Love those concerts videos, and am not usually a "video person". He took the tackiness out of videos.Just the way I use to listen to old British music, now, I listen to NIN and am grateful he found peace. He gave so much to the world and music students will study him 1 day as a composer.He left quite the musical legacy.

@Zorsha Despite having never been much of NIN afficianado, I do have to agree with your assessment 100%. Reznor's a great musician and a great technician. Reznor's humbled response to Johnny Cash's cover of "Hurt" speaks volumes about him.

BTW, didn't Christian Bale's character in "The Machinist" have Reznor-induced name? Trevor Reznik? Nah, I'm imagining crap again. ;-]
