  • Thank you! I dropped my iPod a few weeks back and cracked the digitizer :( I ordered a new digitizer and frame from eBay and used this video to help me fit them - Im only 17 and thought doing this myself would be a bad idea - But there we have it! Thanks for your help! =D

  • Do you have a video on how to replace iTouch 1G home button? I have a home button that got stuck. So I bought a new button to replace it and I'm having trouble fitting it in the hole that I'm replacing. I'm not sure the new button I have is for iTouch 1G or for other iTouch versions.

  • my head phone jack is broken where can i order another for my ipod touch 1st gen?

  • @celliott489 - You can order from our website or by calling us at 1-866-726-3342, option 1.

  • Thanks!!!! I actually broke the little cable going to the headphone jack but I re-soldered it and it works perfectly!!

  • how do u have no scratches on ur ipod touch back?

  • Help please ! My iPod's touché (first gen.) power button (sleep button) dos not work ! The iPod works, I can charge it and all and still connect it to my laptop and all , but when I press the top button nothing happens , please help !!!!

  • i destroi mi ipod and i cant reassembly hoo god what i hive done D:

  • use caution when putting the micro sized screws back on its takin me 4ever to do it. my best bet is to use a screwdriver with a magnet. much easier and it saves u time.

  • Holy crap. When I was opening my battery it started smoking and it's now burnt!

  • @Powerbookmedic Your video was very very detailed and well explained i liked it alot, i got a question i buddy of mine sold me his ipod touch but said the screen was not responding to the touch any possible way that the cable thats connected on the screen is not connected rigght or is loose that why the screen is not responding the my touch?? Thanks again!

  • Excellent.

  • @derrytech123 - No we do not.

  • Comment removed

  • also that little gold spring, which comes in contact with the sleep/wake button on the chrome case, has come off. does this mean the button is permenantly broken or can the spring be reattached with something like super glue?

  • @MrFLExin - You likely need to replace your sleep wake button. Using superglue anywhere is an extremely bad idea.

  • @PowerbookMedic never mind, i ripped the lcd cable so it's broken either way. it was old and slow so i wanted a new one anyway. plus, seeing as it's just the screen & sleep button that don't work, i'm hoping my computer will still recognise it if i plug it in, meaning i could transfer some purchases and pictures

  • @PowerbookMedic What kind of tool should i use to open the back casing?

  • @maxmatt4 - Either an iPod take apart tool or one of our iPad take apart tools. We prefer the iPad take apart tools ourselves. You can order from our website or by calling us at 1-866-726-3342.

  • @MrFLExin i just resoldered mine when it broke off

  • i damaged the cable at 6:10, it's ripped a little but still in one piece. will it still work or have i broken my ipod for good?

  • @MrFLExin - It likely won't work. You'll probably need to replace the cable.

  • prying off the chrome case is a million times harder than it looks on this vid. he says "gently pry" but your gonna have to exert full effort into it

  • My Ipod isn't charging went it's plugged in anywhere, When I push it real hard into the dock port it starts charging but not always. It shows the little zap sign like it's charging then it switches to the little plug sign and it DE-charges or eats my battery. I've taken it apart already and don't know whether to clean the contacts or what?

    Help pleasE?

  • @MrHeychump - You'll likely need to replace your logic board. We sell the part. You can call us toll free at 1-866-726-3342.

  • ok wifi isnt working how can i fix this???? the cable doesnt seem to plug in anywhere?????

  • the green antenna board thats adheared i accidentally completely ripped off.. what should i do? do i need it?

  • This looks great but erm how do you put it back together? I have searched around but you seem to do the better videos for this sort of thing?

  • @lost619 - Follow the steps in reverse order. We currently don't have guides dedicated to reassembly.

  • With what does the power button interface? It is apparently independently floating since it is attached to the outer cover, and simply rides away with the cover when you remove it. It attaches at the top and runs down the side, but where does it plug / interface with the rest of the ipod ? Put another way, how do I fake out the ipod and power it up with the cover off ?

  • My wifi connection on my `1st gen ipod isn't working i have tried everything and came to the conclusion that it's a hardware problem, maybe it's the attena?

  • @norwegianspace - It could be the antenna, or it could be that the antenna came disconnected. I'd pop it open and have a look or have it professionally diagnosed.

  • @PowerbookMedic Ok thankyou, if the antenna was broken or if it is disconnected how would i go about repairing it?

  • @norwegianspace - You'd likely just buy a replacement part and replace it.

  • @PowerbookMedic Unfortunately it doesn't work like that... I have the same problem, no wifi, in my case I had opened it up once before and it ripped the antenna out... yea my fault. But I now have a second Ipod 1st gen and having opened up both, I can clearly see you cant just replace the antenna... everything is connected using incredibly thin buses. you basically need to replace many components just to replace the antenna...

  • @norwegianspace go to settings and click reset network settings. that worked for me.. but i can see that ur comment was posted 2 months ago.. hope this helps anyway :)

  • Hi! Thanks for this very comprehensive take-apart vid!

I have a bit of a problem with my iPodTouch 1st gen... I replaced the battery and did a pretty good job soldering the new one. I put the iPod back together, but now it turns off everytime i unplug it from the charger. Not only that, but the settings change back to 7PM Dec. 31st, 1999 (though all the songs/vidsapps//etc are still there, intact).

Could you help me and point to what may be wrong? I'd appreciate it tremendously!

  • @chiso165wh - Either it is a bad battery or it isn't properly soldered....Worst case, it could be a logic board problem.

  • @chiso165wh Your problem is that when a normal Ipod shuts off, a tiny amount of current is still passing through the chipset, just enough to know what to do when the power button is held (to power on) and to keep a consistent time (system time). In PCs you have a button battery to do this, passing only current to the CMOS BIOS. In this case, there isn't enough space for that so all of the power, big or small, comes from the battery.

Something is wrong with either the battery or its logic!

  • can I use a 1st gen harddrive on a 2nd gen?

  • @carviper2 - The iPod Touch doesn't have a hard drive.

  • @PowerbookMedic Or what ever it has

  • @carviper2 - You'd have to replace the logic board, and no, they aren't interchangeable.

  • @PowerbookMedic Darn... thanks

  • If I need to replace the dock connector, do I need to replace the logic board? What do I need to buy?

  • @bonusproductions - You'd need to replace the logic board.

  • Nicely done. Best 1G Touch guide I've seen.

  • Will it work when I put it back together after taking it apart, and how to I repair the front button, ? :)

  • @lollypopzere13 the logic board IS the iPod. When you buy an iPod you're pretty much paying for the logic board. You might as well buy a whole new iPod. They go pretty cheap on ebay.

  • THANK YOU now i understand and now know the name of the part i need to fix my ipod touch the logic board!do you know where i can find a working one for around 20 dollars?

  • @wilt778 The logic board IS the iPod.When you buy an iPod you're pretty much paying for the logic board. You might as well purchase a whole new iPod. They're pretty cheap on ebay.

  • dude would i have to remove the battery to replace the headphone jack input??? or can it just come out on its own???

    please respond thank you =]

  • can you use a battery from a 2nd gen or 3rd gen in the 1st gen ipod touch?

  • @1992Raiden - No, you need to use a 1st gen battery.

  • Gawd this is the most insanely difficult thing I've ever done. I've only got loose one side of the iPod and the bezel is already all scratched up. And I spent an hour doing just that.

  • what do u call that metal piece that has the usb in it

  • @cupcanto - I believe you are referring to the dock connector.

  • @PowerbookMedic can u use a 2g dock connector on a 1g itouch

  • @cupcanto - No, they are different.

  • I like all of your take apart guides, i just find hem interestig :) and if i need a guide ill watch your videos.

just wondering, what is the music that is playing?
