I just heard the PatMetheny version of "And I Love Her" and although it sounded nice, it
still didn't "really" work for me. There are many songs that The Beatles themselves recorded that they didn't re-record well. I saw Paul McCartney play on David Letterman and the Beatles
songs that he did play then didn;t sound as good as if when THe Beatles were together.
@sp4armyguy1 What's funny is that I loved Jeff Beck's "She's a Woman" for many years before I found out it was a Beatles song, then when I finally heard the Beatles' original version, I still liked the Jeff Beck version better!
@sp4armyguy1 Thanks for your well-thought out comment. But what about the other well-known jazzy versions of this song, namely by Mongo Santamaria, and by Sergio Mendes? I like all those versions, so I guess that means all such jazzy versions work for me. I don't think of them as copying the Beatles, although I suppose that was their intention: I think of these as different songs entirely, as jazz songs with rock chord progressions and Latin percussion, which to me sounds good.
@dobalena1 I've heard Ray Charles' version of "Yesterday" and although in my opinion it's a little better than Mr.Lewis' version of Day Tripper, it just doesn't move me. As I stated and I meant no disrespect to you, there are some Beatle songs that just don't play well in other genres of music. I love contemporary jazz more than rock and Ramsey Lewis is a great artist perhaps a different song would've worked better.

Being a Beatles fan and a fan of Jazz, this version works for me. Hard not to tap your toe to it.

There are alot of Beatle songs that don't play well when copied by other artists.
While I give Mr.Lewis an "A" for effort as a Beatle fan, this doesn't work for me.
