A final word, if I may, about baciar/baccar and who is singing. It is Tito Gobbi accompanied by Gerald Moore and the word he sings is definitely "baciar". I am Gobbi's daughter.
@Baritanist - Who is MacNeil? Never heard of him. Of course everybody has heard of Tito Gobbi! No problem for the public when he's famous, hm? Gobbi was a fine actor and his musical expressiveness augmented the words. Most singers are intent on sounding good and text came secondary, but not Gobbi, so I thank him for that. I suppose we each of us have our opinions. That's mine.
Escribo pensando en la infinidad de tus años que caminan impacientes sobre mi espalda . Escribo para sentirte dentro muy dentro de mi única vida Sí escribo con la firme sensación de sentirte a mi lado respirando el mismo aire que se pierde y nos pierde en el más intimo secreto por ello te escribo...
I love this song very much and I checked and found it with many many siingers. But no one feels it like great genius Tito Gobbi. It passionated, soft and beautiful. Thanks for posting.
...................just before.............what is a feeling? Emotion, not controlled by thinking or politic's Dogmas, by any kind of mental controlling.......
Lets enjoy the song it is beautiful. Mayce I am too picky. I also love to hear Tito Schipa sing "It Te Vurria Vassar" especially one recording when maybe he was 70 year old. Very sweet
En mi opinion, esta es la pieza musical mejor cantada de toda la historia de la musica. Todos los baritonos la cantan tratando de imitar s Gobbi, pero nadie le ha llegado ni cerca de los pies.
This IS Gobbi's recording, with Gerald Moore at the piano, though I do not know the year. And, he sings quite clearly "vorrei baciare"... Probably the best rendition of this beautiful song, no matter it was initially written for a female singer.
I may be sorry for this but here goes> listen to 2:18 and again at 3:18 mins. I may have had cotton in my ears, but...that's what I hear. I love the song, so emotional. Listen also to "I te Vurria Vassar" by Gobbi in his 70's as an elderly man. Pure gold!
@monjiou This IS Tito Gobbi, and the pronunciation is perfect, and couldn't be otherwise as he's Italian. A Spaniard would never sing like this. The pronunciation of "baciar" is absolutely correct, as every other word.
Listen to the pronunciation of this word at 2:18 and again at the 3:11 point and the same word is said two different ways. I think the voice is not as "melodious" as Gobbi's. Gobbi always sounded to me to be more like "velvet". This voice sounds more like "corduroi". However, I am not a musician and I cannot sing a note!!!
@monjiou1 My dear Monjiou, I mean this in the best possible way: I am Italian and the pronunciation is NOT "baccar" but "baciar". If you can't hear it I'm really sorry but you have to believe me. As for his voice not being Gobbi, again... what can I say? I can't change what you think and we could discuss till the cows come home... What's important is to enjoy this wonderful song. Regards.
Caro Flaviat, You misunderstand me I think. I fully agree with you on the pronunciation of the word "kiss" in Italian. I am of Italian extraction (parents on both sides) The other guy first brought up the subject of Gobbi, not Gobbi and I fell into the trap. I love the song and brings tears to my eyes when hearing it. Also I love "I te vurria vassar" by Gobbi in his 70's. On some Italian TV program and it is pure gold. Warmest regards. Marco
Such a beautiful resonant voice! I have loved Tito Gobbi ever since first hearing and being overcome by the famous recording of him with Callas and di Stefano in Rigoletto. Thanks for posting this!

Goldie - MacNeil is Cornell MacNeil and Warren is Leonard Warren, in case you haven't heard of him either? Have you just recently come to opera??
Catoperatheater 1 year ago
He can't compare to Warren or MacNeil. He had no squillo and a bad technique. He sounds like a tenor.

Musica Proibita with Tito Gobbi is one of my favorites. Does anyone know where to find a good piano accompaniment so I can sing it?
I bought one on line and it's better than nothing. But it is not the same as the music that the great Tito Gobbi is singing to. It's a beauty!

Listen to 2:18 and agan 3:11..."bacca..." and then "baccia..." See what you think. Do you notice the difference?
monjiou1 2 years ago
@monjiou1 the word is "baciar" poetic form for the versb "to kiss". The first time he promounc e something close to "bacar" instead.
Who knows? For sure he normally had a perfect diction.

Villeneuve may be right ! Maybe not Gobbi. Would Gobbi have said "baccar" to pronounce "kiss"? in Italian.. Sounds more like a Spaniard might say it.
