@YankeeStacker25 I don't think Kenseth is underrated, everyone among the experts on the broadcasts, in the industry and around the garage knows what a great drivers he is. Most of the fans do also, he just doesn't get much coverage.
Don't know why though, I think he'd one of the most unique and fanscinating personalities in NASCAR.
I don't understand why people threw so much venom at Matt for being the champ despite only winning once. It wasn't his fault NASCAR's points system was crap. He just did what he had to do. Why go for a win when a good finish will keep you on the right path to a title, anyway?
@MachineHeadRacing17 ok, my bad, twice. so he is still a champion..... no matter. he is the most consistent driver in NASCAR, and will go down in one of the best in NASCAR history, along with Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt, and David Pearson
@nascarsignore Johnson will never be in the ranks of Petty, Pearson or Earnhardt. To say that is almost a dis-grace to racing. Not to say your a bad perosn, just that that is a bad point.
@MachineHeadRacing17 He would have finished second on the old schedule in 2006, not first. only by 4 points too. The champions without the chase are as follow:
2004: Jeff Gordan
2005: Tony Stewart
2006: Jimmie Johnson
2007: Jeff Gordan
2008: Carl Edwards
2009: Jimmie Johnson
2010: Kevin Harvick.
Only three of those years were ``Landslide`` championships. 2006 would have been decided by 4 points. less than 2004s 7 points. I think we can all say we`d be happire if the chase wasn`t invented
@wes3tomcat No the stats actually say it would have been Jeff gordon in 2004 and Kevin Harvick in 2010. Look it up or add it up yourself. Gordon would have won in 2004, 173 points ahead of Jr would in 3rd. In 2010 Hamlin would have been in 3rd 422 points behind Harvick.
@wes3tomcat that only cost jr 25 points, he would've still lost to gordon by 148 points. The wrecks at Martinsville and Atlanta are what really cost him.
Most underrated champion ever.
