Sorry, but today's factory high performance cars such as the ZR1, Dodge Viper, 2012 GTR would dust these old muscle cars. Hell, even a stock LS1 Z28 from 10 years ago would beat most of them.
@MikeSuperH ive heard of turn key muscle cars run 11.5sec (l88 corvette and hemi cuda) WITHOUT POWER ADDERS LIKE a SUPERCHARGER or a TURBO or TWO extra cylinders. they will not make factory muscle anymore...shoot the gremlin X pulled the wheels in the air. FACTORY.
i love how people say i know i was there, so was i and they did run these numbers maybe you were too used to stock 383 cars but if you were around any hemi that was on a track and prepped for it you know they ran these numbers, this guy cut an 11 with bias plys and a dude in the back its fact you just watched it wake up man
@DrMMHMD well thats jsut it. I gave you an "average" answer. I don't know if this is a big block or small block...cuz theres def. a big difference in peak torque when it comes to the displacement of the engine. If its a small block, I'm saying 6.5k...while big block would be more around 5k
@TheYoungTurds1 Kids these days dont know crap about cars or engine's. The Hemi was purpose built to be a high RPM engine just as the L88,ZL-1 and LS6 BB Chevy's and the Boss 429 BB from Ford. These were built from the factory as a race engines but slightly detuned for street use. It's not like today when you have to throw $10K into a car in order to get 500+HP. Back in the old days 500HP came from the factory, not a Summit catalog!
@WPGinterceptor Not stock it wasn't ..Rated like todays engines, a stock 67 Hemi makes about 360 net horsepower. Later Hemi's put out up to 50hp more.
@TechMaven Insurance is the reason the BS low ratings insurance companies stuck it to certain cars back then because of its power package just like they do to the tuners today.
@DrMMHMD speed? I think you mean RPM...*sigh*. Any how, assuming that this car is a big block...He SHOULD have shifted 1st gear at 5.5k and 2nd gear at 4.5k
@IreneR100 The 1967 GTX weighed around 3,550 lbs, it's not as heavy as some people think. Also, some 60's hemi coronets could be bought off the showroom floor with no a/c, no heater, no rear seat, and 4.10 gears running 11's.
@camirocz Dude, there were actually plenty of muscle cars (stuff like the valiants, barracudas, etc.) with rear seat delete, heater delete, a/c delete, optional short rear gear running 11 second passes...you just had to know who to talk to. I think they replced some of the body pannels with fiberglass for some folks too, but they did have cars (mostly the small-body hemi mopars) that would get 11s off the "lot"...
@DeAdiSSu3 None thats a myth i am from that generation and i can tell you that none including the mighty a/c cobra ran 11s all stock.Superstock dart with swiss cheese frame but i do not consider one of two cars to be a production car.ls6 chevelle going t 13.10 at 107 was probably one of the fastest along with l88 corvette. For sure on slicks those two would see mid to high twelves but could not rival todays zr1,z06,gtr ,and porsches.
@camirocz You're 51 years old, right? That would mean you were born in 1959 or so, so you were really young ( mid to late 60's) when the cars I mentioned were being sold in that format (no extra weight and short rear gearing, you get the point) anyway its not a myth, there were plenty of vehicles sold of this nature. I've heard many stories and they all have one thing in common: Waivers had to be signed stating that these vehicles did not comply with federal vehicle safety regulations.
@DeAdiSSu3 born in 60 but there were plenty of these cars around in the mid 70s and i saw them all go .They were great for their time but very slow by todays standards. In fact its not even fair to compare.
@94EglVisionTSI Mopars are pretty goddamn heavy-duty, man! I'm sure the engine can do 7,000 rpm safely but I wouldn't feel safe doing that very often with a big v8 without forged connecting rods at the least. Out of all the things that could happen from high rpm, you don't wanna throw a rod because you'll destroy the engine block.
That lttle red light on the dash is my shift light. It never shut off in 2nd gear, due to tire spin. I had to shift too soon, or over rev the motor. This pass was run on stock G70-14 bias ply tires. They don';t hook to good behind a Hemi!

One of the nicest cars ever produced anywhere! If Chrysler was smart they would re-produce the Hemi muscle cars as they were originally built for collectors, but we can only dream! Thanks for a good post!
Man that is awesome. Nice car!

@zLOSTNOMOREz the Hemi was actually underrated as well.. 600+ horse was the norm out of a hemi!

@TechMaven yes that was stock! and to the tires (Net) that was 450
WPGinterceptor 3 months ago
@WPGinterceptor the 426 Hemi in stock trim dyno's at around 400-420 HP. The new 392 Hemi, factory rated at 470 HP, dynos between 420-432 RWHP
SOFSoldier1 3 months ago
@SOFSoldier1 They just had a demo on Speed television, showing the TRUE horsepower ratings from the 426 Hemi.
NOTHING other than Ford's Boss 429 came close to the hemi's 580 Horsepower!
NOTHING.. but believe what you want...
There is a saying.. no replacement for Displacement.

A stock original HEMI car never ran mid 11s @ 124 mph..... especially not a big 'ol GTX. So what's the scoop with the engine?

Most factory rods are already forged. You guys look at Hemi internals youll know why they can take it. This coming from a Chevy guy.
OP sounds great, nice run.
