I have the good fortune of being at the show the night before, my 21st time seeing SRV live. R.I.P. Stevie, I miss your music... so much! This is a beautiful recording, thank you for posting this soundboard mix.
About 1984 I was at Alpine Valley(I lived in Milwaukee at the time),Charlie Danials was the attraction with Juice Newton opening the show.At the time I was starting to get into SRV.To think that just a few years later SRV would perform he last show forever haunts me to this very day,for I had become such a SRV fan that I had bought everything I could get my hands on!!!We love you,SRV!!! R-I-P,SRV!!!
this is off peace in the valley cd after stevie anounced the band and said goodnite ,he got on that chopper.i was blessed to be one a SW flight with him and his girlfriend from houston to dallas.i remember seeing him walk down the steps with his red and black jacket on.then he was gone---RIP --stevie
stevie was friends with DAVID BROWN moost of his lifeand david is my good frient.put him in a h a strat you'd think stevie was there.i miss my buddy --went to calif.
The more I listen to this song I hear pieces of Pink Floyd kind of sounds in it. Was Stevie a "Floyd" fan? Did he and Gilmore ever play together at anytime in their careers?
@johnnycatterall91 This specific recording is on Sacred Sources Vol. 1, you can find it on Ebay, Half.com, Amazon, which is a compilation that Carlos Santana released, also has Bob Marley, Marvin Gaye, Hendrix, etc. I got a copy for a few dollars.
So greatful for all of the many times I got to revel in this guys amazing gift. I saw this performance and when I hear it I get transported back to that very night where we all stood mesmerized and smiling. Stilll miss the shit out of you Stevie!!!!!
Took a walk down 6th Street in Austin not long ago. Could feel Stevie's presence and absence everywhere. I will be a prisoner to this song forever. Gladly.
Stevie's solo is so damn intense on this one. I love the keyboard work on this as well. Its so moving. I would've loved to have been there. All of us wish for that and a few of us did get to see him on his last night or at least got to see him once. The way hes playing in this show is like its really his last night (which it was) but he always played like that, as all great musicians do.
@deuce2660 What a beautiful way to describe this song. RP is one of those songs that is so enigmatic and "otherworldly" as you say, I don't know why, but I am completely transported to another place whenever I hear it. It's like a prayer or something akin to it. I like how Stevie said before play it, that it was dedicated to "anyone who is suffering in any way." I always wonder what was on his mind when he wrote it (?). RIP sweet Stevie.
Beautiful, just beautiful. My heart still hurts over the loss of this gifted musician and sweet human being. This song feeds my soul whenever I'm sad or just need to contemplate. You are deep in my heart Stevie.
i just been to paradise for 10 minutes..

As the song progressed, and the seconds got closer to the end of the video, my mind went:
"no, noo, nooo, NOOOO!"
And then it was over, and Stevie was gone.

its nice to know that Stevie sounded satisfied with his life the very night before his death.

Studied the master Albert King to a tee and took his own gift to songs like this! He would have been a Jazz King if he was still alive!!!
