My dad served w/ the 1st Marines VMO-5, based on Siapan. He was a Recon pilot. He ran across Pappy a few times and has some good stories. He said if you were smart you avoided that crew when they were drinking. Pappy was an American hero and had all the flaws and bravado of Americans that we have lost due to liberal PC and multiculterism. It used to be cool to be an American with an attitude. Leaders with the balls of Gen. Patton. What we have now is a march towards the limping French. Shit.
Top stuff. Read the book 30yrs ago. A 1/32nd scale model of his aircraft has pride and place in my collection. Thanks Pappy and his boys. From an old Aussie.
Sir(s): If I may, at this Date and Time, state here and attest to the full how pleased We are to sense once again the pride and elation of MAJ/O-4 BOYINGTON, GREGORY "PAPPY." Furthermore, the grey matters which concerned the men led by MAJOR BOYINGTON show the wonder and composure of a set of true, beautiful minds. Fear, in Our View, is overcome so by the Wise Tractates of Home & Pursuits of the Accomplished Learned. Like the Little Man Standing on a Sure Rock and Reaching Forward to It, J. D.
Just for the record, and not trying to cause a commotion here, LOL but Greg was promoted to Col. just before passing away. I thought it was really cool when he appeared on "To Tell the Truth" with two other "imposters" and he faked two of the four panelists out. But two of them also knew which one he was too.. I thought that was great... He was also a Medal of Honor winner...

@jcrozboy I know! It's crazy just how young solders and pilots where in WWII. A lot of very young men signed up for military service, some even lied about their age to get in.
@Ispintechno1 Correct, sir! A LOT of boys lied about there age. There's alot of assumption that the military was aware that many enlistees were underage, but because they needed the personnel so badly, they looked the other way. I think alot of kids would have enlisted after 9/11, but it's alot harder to falsify birth records these days.
I really wished the history channel would go back to showing history shows.

@jcrozboy That's it, my friend. Our freedom was saved by high school football teams. GOD BLESS THEM! Don't let it go to waste.
