I used to play this demo as a kid. Wasnt allowed to get the full game so I dragged out the demo as much as I could. I just recently got Deadly Shadows and it's nothing like the first one. I still miss the gameplay.
i love this game.... its great.... and still without ending it... i played a demo like 10 years ago.. and just a year ago i had a full copy... but bc of my business studies i hadnt had the mod to play it.... anyway this is great...
Eidos sells the Thief trilogy in a pack, for a fair price. Unfortunately, the first two games still require you to download all sorts of antiquated drivers and run on only one processor. But it's all well worth the effort.
@E2theSamps Well for me T1, T2 und SystemShock2 did run perfectly on a new Acer Rig from 2008 with Windows Vista. No need for old drivers, but of course the "only one CPU"-thing was essential. And yes - those games are worth the effort. Every effort! :)
Just installed Thief Gold on a laptop with Vista and it runs well. Something about Vista, maybe? And I'll have get my hands on a copy of System Shock, of course!
Thank you, Brummbrummquietsch, for uploading my videos. That must have been a lot of work for both sets. The video doesn't look too bad for 20KB/s. The audio is quite good.
@Multrox If ur PC is new u gotta search around for some drivers for ur graphix card that support older games. also ull find some shit to make ur computer support older versions of directx or whatever its called. i dont know much about this stuff but i had the same problem with other old games and searched around and found some stuff that worked :)
People said the same thing in the 1990's, oh look at that game thief, its just about graphics nowadays. The cycle repeats istelf. There are still very good games.
There are still good games nowadays but I don't remember anyone making that complaint about Thief, or any of the Looking Glass projects.
I will say this though, games have become more mainstream. Compare Bioshock to System Shock and, well frankly Bioshock is a lot more simplistic. That doesn't make it bad, I still loved it, but I do miss the days when games were made by geeks for geeks ^^
Because the new games are only for the eye, meaning graphics like reality... while lacking gameplay, fun. Just compare UNREAL 1, HEXEN 1 and DOOM 2 with all the new crap... beats all! And the Thiefs... will always be legendary in my opinion. Best games ever.
@Brummbrummquietsch No kidding. Crysis sums it up for me. A game that was made 5 years before hardware could handle it on max settings...with all the game play elements of a 15 year old no name side scroller for the Atari.
i have windows vista basic and i a running on intel pentium inside i have downloaded this game and i am wondering if i am going to come across any problems anyone knows please help me as this is an awesome game thanks folks greatly appreciated
Do you realised, the story of the Thief trilogy based upon the Free-Masonic cult? The master builder of the hammerites is a free masonic god. The trickster is the Satan of the ancient christian mitology. The keepers behaviour is like the Illuminati.
That's a theory indeed MrOresko. And as always they all have their own agendas. And in the middle of all these things, is Garrett. What I'd call, an anarchist who doesnt buy any crap from either one of the sects in this game. He doesnt obey to anyone, and is following his own path. ... but lets not get over exited. It may all be just a coincidence. Besides there's no absolute truth in these things. The Xtians named the pagans evil etc but the pagans preexisted and were not wearing masks.
In Warren Spector's (the designer of the game) other game, the Deus Ex, have some Illuminati theory, and secret society. In the game we meet with the illuminati leader, and read Adam Weisshaupt book. I think, the Thief trilogy secret societes based on the real agencys.
i so wish i could get this game to work again, but the CD is all fucked up How ever it is a real bliss of a game. I finished it long ago and trust me if you finish this game you deserve the title the stealth master its hard even on easy.
Den einen? Hast mehrer Prozessoren? Du musst es ja einstellen, dass nur ein einziger Prozessor für das Game zuständig ist. Sprich wenn Du alle 4 (z.B.) Prozessoren ausschaltest, würde ja gar nichts mehr gehen...
I doubt this would work on Vista would it? I got T3:DS but I feel like playing the originals again. I remember playing them when my Dad was going to chuck them out, I was like 6 then lol Thief was the first video game I played believe it or not :D
T1 and T2 both work on Vista perfectly; its just essential to tell Windows via Task Manager that the thief.exe is allowed to run with / on only one processor.
I think a movie should be made, just focus more on the backstory and less on the first-person thieving. There is a lot about the Keepers as well as the City and its various factions that could make for a great storyline with plenty of dialogue.
Well thats an answer, says everything and nothing. Gonna send you a personal message how to solve this problem, takes about five minutes. So be patient.
Ok, maybe you have the same problem as I did. It was the problem if your PC has more than 1 CPUs. Start the game, hit Alt+Tab, look in the Taskmanager for the thief.exe - process, hit right mouse click and apply one ONE cpu to the process and go back to the game. And voila, it should work (like SS2, T1). Hope this solves your problem.
Well T1 & T2 & SystemShock2 crashed also on my PC, because T1/T2 cant manage dual-/quadcore processors. Do you have dual-/quadcorestuff CPU's? If yes than I can tell you whats the problem and how you can manage / solve it to play it.
Looks good for a 1998 game...

Brummbrummquietsch 2 years ago
I think a movie should be made, just focus more on the backstory and less on the first-person thieving. There is a lot about the Keepers as well as the City and its various factions that could make for a great storyline with plenty of dialogue.

Ok, maybe you have the same problem as I did. It was the problem if your PC has more than 1 CPUs. Start the game, hit Alt+Tab, look in the Taskmanager for the thief.exe - process, hit right mouse click and apply one ONE cpu to the process and go back to the game. Already googled for that problem / searched some forums / installed the newest graphics driver and stuff?
