  • i listened to this at music class

  • I think that the point of this video is that one of them isn't a child.

  • This has all the makings of a charity tour, could call it "Pipes for the Poor" Feed the mind, body,,,AND the Soul, Well done guys, I'd pay to see them play.

  • #0:18 the highest kid is doing something with paddles (changing?)

    Have you noticed that before?

  • this is ace

  • Always nice to hear. I like this song. Good work by the children!

  • @fuxx66 - Michael is a musical wizard with the kids.

  • I know, I kid, I kid. And I pun too.

  • my favorite child is the one with the mustache.

  • @sevenyearnight - That would be the Music teacher Michael Greiner.

    =)

  • I am going to say they must have had a lot of time on their hands, and i am sure when you did this it attracted the neighbor's lol.

  • @Jeepnut78

    :o)))))))

  • I am still teaching in the afterschool program at Aveson Charter School. The newest thing we are doing is glass harmonica, tuned singing wineglasses. We have 130 glasses in all. Check out my live clip at the Alex theater for an idea of the sort of thing we are playing. Positions of notes are the same as piano on both marimbas and glass harmonicas I build but I add accedentals as we need them starting with F# and bB Thank you all for your comments and support, this has been a fun and wild ride!

  • Muuuuito bom!

  • Great Stuff!!! Go Michael!

  • how'd ya like to be that guy's neighbor...

  • I am.

    =)

    It's quite an experience!

  • @PlayHanghang HAHA! i bet! must be fun! haha

  • I liked the clapping part where they clapped their paddles together. Gave it some variety and made me smile. :D

  • Wow this is very funny lol i like it :p

  • what the frig!! what r these!! i mean its a good sound, but i play marimba but the sticks are creeping me out!! what kindaof marimba r these!!

  • From the description on the top left corner:

"The mallets are home made using foam flip-flops mounted to paint stirring sticks."

  • Just tubes, PVC pipe, ABS pipe and two types of drainpipe available at Home Depot. Instruments cost next to nothing but the time to build. Mallets are cut from foam floormat squares available from Costco. I use an electric meat carving knife for the job. Hardest is the handles as I make my own multi layer 1/4 in plywood but you can buy the good stuff and use that. UHMW I think it is called. I tune the pipes with a chopsaw and a stack of electric tuners. Fun. Thanks for asking!

  • did good realy good !

  • so cool keep it up guys

  • You guys make a good team to play marimbas your Awesome!

  • Greiner, when you die, God is REALLY going to enjoy you!! :)

  • Thank you, but he's got to wait a really long time :) I'm not going quietly, or soon!

  • nice

  • is it just down pipe? if it is it just like the blue man group, still good job

  • Thanks, Best Bass pipes are cheap Home Depot 4" drainpipe. The slight corrigation gives it a really nice tone envelope. Best midrange I've found is 3" PVC the heavy stuff not the airated lightweight foamed kind. Check the end for bubbles, makes a big differance.

  • zimbabwe is marimba kingz

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!! You guys ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thank you it has ment a lot to the students to have positive feedback. Responce has been great since YouTube featured us. Quite unexpected, our 15 minutes of fame...

  • so awsome

  • I played this with michael @ 7:15 2/21/09

  • Every time I watch this I feel happy. The world is much better than it was when I was young. Thank God!

  • no lie....that looks like fun :D

  • im black, but i love to see white and black in pease !!

  • Comment removed

  • Don't put marimba in the title if it's not a marimba.

  • You are techinically correct, it is more apporpriately referred to as a thongophone, but that is such an obscure term, and it's effectively a PVC Mariba without bars.

    =)

  • No offence, but the word THONGophone just made my day. I guess you're right.

  • wow

  • There is only one word to describe this:

    ......Wow

  • What the hell, WOW!

  • so so cool

  • Genial chicos!!!!

  • oh what super dupper genial. Greatest Video Music Stuff.

  • best thing i've seen on youtube

  • What is the title of this song??

    Thankx!!! :)

  • The music is a Michael Greiner original titled 'Caribbean Fantasy'.

  • Dr, Charles Follen McKim Maloney of Edinburgh Scotland learned how to play the marimba whilst travelling the Carribean in his hot air balloon. He later used the marimba as therapy for schizophrenic patients.

  • Marimba therapy was later outlawed in Azerbaijan because it was noted it had the side effect of stupefying secret police! It is still widely utilised in the Carribean for psychiatric purposes and aborigianl tribes of cape York in northern Queensland congregate every October and play the marimba (not very well it has to be said) to the statue of Dr. Maloney that stands there!

  • what??

    I looked up Azerbaijan,

and its by georgia, and is shiite??

    they used this there??

  • The soviets had control of Azerbaijan at the time and experimented with many therapys including 'marimba' therapy. 'Dancing horse' therapy was pioneered by the communists in Azerbaijan.

  • This makes me happy

  • wow, 300,000 views and still growing, great music. was in st.croix in 99 doing a fund raiser for the music students their

  • holy shit,thats impressive,continue music throughout highschool!

  • Its AMAZING to get music out of pvc pipes. The skill of you guys is fantastic. I wonder what would happen if you would attach a microphon to each of the pipes and all feeding into an equalizer and amplifier. Great Show!

  • cool! I love the home made instruments!

  • Different, creative, and nice.

  • That would be cool and all if the neighbors were being a nuisance to the neighborhood but then again, they might arrest this guy, that is, IF he has annoying neighbors, for violating some stupid and pointless noise ordinance, never mind that the hypocrites probably did that first in their lives. Still, it is a way to give the people who bug this guy their just deserts.

  • Well, you and the guy wh created this video (PlayHangHang) should get together and do some talking and maybe you could donate some of your materials to him? That would serve both of your mutual interests in music well, too, IMHO, sir. Anyway, cool instruments. Who would have thought of using old flip flops that way? Do you use just the flip flops with the soles that have very small ridges on them?

  • is it me or this place really seems multi-cultural

  • Future members of the blue man group.

  • childerens orchestra? whos the like 45 yr old in there haha
