The bottomline is that this dunk would have been pretty sick had it been Jordan's prime, let alone 33. The double clutch, the patented monster dribble before the jump, and the super good elevation.
Now, compared to Kobe!? Let's face it, Kobe can still do it but overall Jordan had more elevation and noticeably more distance than Kobe throughout career. I can't think of anyone that could jump from as far away from the hoop as regularly as Michael in the history of the game.
I NEVER comment on likes/dislikes.. but how THE HELL can anyone dislike this? It might not be the greatest dunk of all time but still looks damn good to me.. The ppl who didnt like this must hate MJ. And if they do.. Why are they watching this video? ( was that chris gatling?)
the crowd were in ecstacy for about twenty minutes watching the replays, one of the best in game showtime dunks ever. in 1996 as well, proves that age doesnt matter if you have enough belief and skill. Jordan was just brilliant simply because he loved the game and pracrticed alot.
MJ was an animal...Just so unfair that mere mortals were forced to play against the God of the Hardwood... And his whole swag, from the way he dressed to the way he shaved his dome to way he moved on the court just oozed confidence and power + madd flava...
I really think when he was in mid-air, looking backwards, he probably tried to balance his body in a way to NOT rise any hgher because he feared hitting his head on the rim! :D
when Michael dunks, it looks so fluid and effortlessly. true many other dunkers now adays dunk like this all the time, even under the legs and windmills, but they look like they are trying so hard to pull of the dunk.
yah kobe can do that but jordan dunk is much more fun to watch because the grace and the flying motion in the air..he jump like no effort look kobe dunk its always in full force
your crazy kobe can do that any day of the week... kobe does reverse slams base line all the time... if you think jordan dunks better than kobe then your an idiot and crazy... dunking is way more advance than it was back in the 80s, kobe can do windmils and between the leg dunks
@Eyesonme805 Well let's see Kobe go from the free throw line like Jordan. No offense, your going to go with Kobe no matter what I say, but Jordan just seemed to be on a different level. But I think Kobe has a long range shooting skill that nobody can match.
CONFESS TO GOD THAT YOU HAVE SINNED AGAINST HIM,REPENT OF YOUR SINS FROM YOUR HEART AND ASK JESUS TO SAVE YOU BEFORE YOU LEAVE GOD EARTH *ROMANS 10:9-13;PSALM 32:5* & READ & OBEY GOD'S WORD TILL YOU DEAD LEAVE GOD WORLD! LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS THYSELF GOD SAYS; DO IT OR ELSE LEAVE GOD EARTH!
Is it me, or does it always seem that after MJ did something spectacular, there was a foul or delay on the game immediately after, so everyone could watch the replay? Seems like it, and thank god for it :)
I still clearly remember seeing this dunk happen live because it was the first really fancy dunk I had seen him do since he had come back (the 1st time). For a while there, despite the fact he was playing really well, I was getting worried he couldn't do stuff like this anymore because he kept just doing ordinary one handed dunks. Then I saw this happen, and jumped out of my seat. It was good to see classic Air Jordan again. =)
@Intramorph Well he wanted to conserve his knees..plus by this time he added his fade-away mid range shot as his weapon of choice. Either way...he had nothing to prove because by this point he had like 4 rings and already dunked on everybody in his era. Kobe came a couple years after for the next era in basketball
remember that air jordan 12 commercial where mj told us to tell him he can't fly and he dunked from the freethrow line? i think he was around 34 there
I remember listening to this game on the radio and Neil Funk went crazy after this dunk. I saw the replay on the news later and was shocked, no one thought Mike could still get up like that at 33 yrs old
he was guarding guys like TIM HARDAWAY, a prime DAMON STOUDAMIRE, STOCKTON, VAN EXCEL, he guarded all the PG's that season he was 6'6 that is incredible his foot speed and athleticism is just not even close to being equalled
That's mpt spectacular .... Please remember all of you, that MJ was the most athletical basketball player , he was superb in his 20s , and still much better in his 30s ... In 1996 He was still much athletical than Kobe ever was , Or Lebron, o somebody...
@yojimmy213 Yeah that was nice by Kobe but the problem is he was 29 years old at that time NOT 33. When Jordan did crazy dunks on people when he was 29 the announcers DIDN"T say that looks like the young Jordan either, because Jordan was doing highlight dunks on a regualar basis. Jordan dunked o more people when he was 35 than Kobe did when he was in his 20's. WOW! THAT LOOKED LIKE THE YOUNG KOBE!
@rockyrack2 IDk young kobes dunks he tryed to poster everybody, thats all he did as a kid, Young kobe because kobe was in the leauge for 11 years at 29 so he lost lots of his hops or doesnt get fancy much as like he did when he was young
@yojimmy213 OK that's a good point and Jordan had fresh legs because he took close to two years off but Kobe at his peek couldn't get up as high as Jordan at his. Plus Jordan dunked on far more players than Kobe did because
of Jordan's huge hands and his ability to hold onto the ball after contact. Jordan dunked on everyone, the list is endless and alot of the guys got dunked on multiple times, Mourning in his rookie year got dunked on by Jordan 5 times in 2 games.
@yojimmy213 I'm just saying don't even try comparing Kobe to Jordan when it comes to dunking period, Kobe can barely palm a basketball, he can't do half the dunks Jordan could.. To me Kobe as great as he is isn't close to being as good as Jordan as a basketball player but the gap between their dunking ability is even bigger.
@yojimmy213 When it comes to dunking palming the ball is very important. Alot of Jordan's pattented dunks(Kiss the rim, freethrow line, reverse kiss the rim and rock the cradle cannot be done by most high flyers because they don't have the hands to hold on to the ball. To do the freethrow line dunk the way he did it (dribbling to the line) you need to be able to pick the ball up off the dribble with one hand. most guys Dr. J, Clyde Drexler just ran up to the line without dribbling.
@rockyrack2 is that kobes fault for not having big hands? isnt it even more amazing that kobe can do some of mjs stuff with smaller hands? but lets not talk about kobe bcuz apparently every1 brings up kobe or lebron on mj videos vice versa
@najanator he did it at age 30, a few seasons ago against the hornets. which is probably the equivalent to jordan at age 33, as kobe came straight outta highschool and jordan stayed in college for 3 years..
nba = 82 games
college = around 30
so thats kinda unfair to say since kobe has alot more years and games under his belt already than jordan did.
@northvalleynews kobe sucks now?....ok.... also know that he has a lot more minutes under his belt than MJ by this age. MJ played baseball for a year and entered the NBA at like age 21. Kobe can still dunk like that espescially when he comes back after this lockout strong
If I remember right, the press asked MJ about this dunk after the game. He said the Heat were talking serious trash during the game, so this jam was his way of sticking it to them.
he had such power and hops in that dunk! looked like the MJ of old. the entire crowd was shocked that MJ did that reverse like that! i think MJ was going for his normal tomahawk slam and once he jumped he realized he was so close to the basket and just naturally turned for the reverse
been lookin for this dunk forever. im an artist on the side and i drew this picture of jordan doing this dunk and ive seen them run it as a highlight in the pre-game show for sportschannel adn always wanted to see it in game!
Aaahhh... i wanted to be the first to post this dunk.. been looking through my tapes for ages.. still cant find it - i wish i marked tapes back in the day!! glad it's posted now.. thanks!
AWESOME!!! I asked hoopsencyclopedia months ago if he had this game to see this dunk from the regular angle. The crowd was still buzzing 10 minutes after it happened because they replayed it on the jumbotron over and over. Great upload and thanks!!!
i agree. this was one of his best dunks post 1st retirement. i also liked the double pump dunks he did. he did those more regularly though. he seldom did these type of dunks in this video
It seems like the combination of the AJ11 and the Miami Heat floor made him jump even higher. Remember that Alley from Pippen to MJ when he was hiiiigh up in the air ??
I do, but honestly I'm really inexperienced in this whole uploading thing....the program I have only lets me upload small segments, and for longer whole games I have to pay. I'm not really sure what programs other people use for whole games and if they pay xtra or not...
You should use VirtualDub and TMPEGEnc (depends on the format you want to cut) for video editing, they're both freeware and work just fine. Send me a pm if you have any other questions.
wait this video is not available??...it's working fine for me... maybe it's just a temporary issue, that happens alot for some reason....try again later!
love that stuff, it was one of mike's "shut up em up" dunks, for the critics that dared to say he couldn't sky like he used to after baseball, that reverse is circa all-star weekend 88, just awesome
Thanks for getting this up. Some of the usual Jordan video commenters have been looking for this dunk from the normal game angle for a long time. Hopefully they see it.
Seriously who does a reverse dunk like that at 32?? Kobe? I don't know.

Send me a pm if you have any other questions.

love that stuff, it was one of mike's "shut up em up" dunks, for the critics that dared to say he couldn't sky like he used to after baseball, that reverse is circa all-star weekend 88, just awesome

Thanks for getting this up. Some of the usual Jordan video commenters have been looking for this dunk from the normal game angle for a long time. Hopefully they see it.
