  • 88 sad people who cannot appreciate old skool electronica!

  • Wow, DEVO actually made a music video that had the two things that scare me most: Mannequins and monkeys...... *shudders* If they had included roaches I might have never been the same. DEVO is my favorite band but my GOD.....

  • Great version!!

  • This cover is definitely more better than the original!

  • @CzechpointChrly yes this is onr of those rare occasions...

  • I saw this music video from the MOMA & my reaction is like....Who the hell are these band, but they brought an artstic delivery for this strange fucking song lol :)

  • I used to think they were saying Secret Asian Agent

  • I always thought that it sounds like they're saying "secret aging man".

  • the new blu-ray of island of lost souls has a featurette with Devo talking about how much the film influenced their music AND it has the entire "de-evolution of man" film presented as an extra--which this video came from.

that film doesn't seem to even be on YT.

  • This never gets old. It's still as exciting and good as the first time I heard it, years ago. I wish DEVO was still like this!!!! I guess it's up to me to make my own band!! because there really are no new bands like this.

  • I am a DEVOTEEEEE

  • 1000th like here spud boiz!

  • wow this fucking sucks

  • @badddluccc just like your mom.

  • @MacabreXMayhemXEddie duh thats why im here

  • @badddluccc lol. i bet your music sucks.

  • @badddluccc trust me, it's just hard to digest. devo is the classic band in wich the sound grows on you.

  • Damn good song

  • CREDOOOO! QUE LIXOOO!

  • is it supposed to sound all 'wow and fluttery' or were they using bad tape recorders

  • DEVO could come out tomorrow and still be ahead of their time

  • BEST SECRET AGENT MAN - DEVO

  • This is a horrible version! WTF? I remember this being a fast-paced, jumpy song, this sounds like they're on a acid trip!

  • @screwyootube1 This is a fantastic version. While I remember this being a fast-paced jumpy song, this sounds like they're on an acid trip! Brilliant!

  • @screwyootube1 old version, it's like hardcore devo versions

  • secret aisan man

  • do you have the papers that china man sent you?

  • Secret Agent Man is such a great song, but is anyone else excited to see Mark Mothersbaugh in the documentary “Programming the Nation.” He’s so insightful. I just love how this guy seems to be active in society rather than sitting on his money. bit. ly/qUuUCp

  • Monkey mask Popsicle guy who says "Secret" is one of this strangest things I have ever seen In my life. I love DEVO.

  • damn Devo's trippy when your really baked

  • @gunfuego everything is when baked

  • The worst drums I ever heard, but it's so good !

  • I saw them at the Beginnings club in Schaumburg, IL. They opened for Iggy Pop.

    WOW..............

  • I think this is one of the first examples of new wave. The original song was by Johnny Rivers "Secreat Agent Man"... from 1966. Great song. I always got the feeling that it was a signum for a tv series or a toy... Does someone here has more info? Thanks for posting.... g

  • @SergioFloresa If you have already received a reply to your question I apologise in advance. 'Secret Agent Man' was the theme tune to the British television series Dangerman (Secret Agent in the U.S.), starring Patrick McGoohan (The Prisoner).

I think the first series (season) did not do well in the U.S. so they vamped it up and changed it from a half hour show to an hour from the second season onwards and replaced the original catchy theme tune with Johnny Rivers'.

  • Devo doesnt make Music Videos! Devo makes Public Service announcements to protect our freedom of choice hahaha!

  • this is truely PSYCHEDELIC yeah!

  • Eww @ the masked guy

  • fucked... completly. Gotta love it.

  • This version is heaps better than the version on the Duty Now album. Where can you find this version on?

  • @ManFromMelbourne I've got this video on a dvd called "The Complete Truth About Devolution". It's the only place I've seen/heard it. It's definitely worth getting. It's a great dvd all around. You're totally right. This version is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better than the Duty Now version.

  • @IDoubtThat1968 i agree about how badd ass that dvd is man but this song is from the question r we not men we r devo album

  • 75 people need booji boy jammed up their ass!

  • DEVO - THE BEST SECRET AGENT MAN!

  • Okay, so I know that a couple of decades have gone by since this was made. And I was a huge Devo fan and knew they were a bit odd. Nonetheless, when I finally got around to seeing this video I couldn't help but sit there with my mouth open and my brain going, "What ... the ... hell ... is ... this!?"

  • I saw them for the first time on SNL in 1978 and will never forget it. Had never seen or heard anything like it before. Amazing band. I was hooked right there and then. Around the same time our local cable channel here in Halifax,Nova Scotia,Canada would play the only videos they had, this one,''Hong Kong Garden'' by Siousxie and The Banshees and three linked videos by Dire Straits, songs from Making Movies lp(I guess this was actually 1980). Devo stuck out more than the other videos. Underrated.

  • Boogie Boy can Boogie!

  • I want this as an mp3! How can I get it???

  • @TheMightyDude

    youtubedownload (dot) altervista (dot) org

converts to mp3 too I believe.

  • There is nothing I don't love about this

  • Secret AAsian man!

  • Does this remind anybody of the Spy Vs. Spy video game!?

  • take a load of this mr rivers

  • Now we can all learn the truth about de-evolution!

  • My kid is a Yo Gabba Gabba freak so any chance I get I try and mess him up just a little more

  • I remember watching Devo on an English music programme So It Goes in 1978 being asked about their synthesizers & stating "we don't use synthesizers, we abuse them..."

    This video is proof.

  • @bobmedley - I saw them on SNL around the same time, the coolest thing I'd ever seen at that time

  • what the hell

  • Super ..Crazy .. Crazy .. I Like this ...

  • Where's Bob II?

  • @HugoMasekela

The video was shot in 1974. Bob 2 wasn't a permanent member until 1976.

  • @EyeoftheU OK I got it now. This is the quartet line up with Jim Mothersbaugh and his homemade electronic drum set. I'm guessing that's also him in the "Jocko Homo" clip. With nylons.

  • that guy on synths frightens me mother

  • this is really so cool, cool, cool, strange'n'sick and funny, too!

thanks! that's the real spirit of that times, not what all those weeners today pose like :)

  • this is really so cool, cool, cool, strange'n'sick and funny, too!

thanks! that's the real spirit of that times, not what all those weeners today pose like :)

  • I like Devo, but this is the worst, most annoying racket ive ever heard, this makes my stomach turn. Sorry Devo fans...

  • Secret, ASIAN MAN

  • WTF?

  • Note how they completely switch the tense of the original, from third to first-person. "They've given ME a number, and they've taken away MY name."

This semi-cover reveals the reality of the secret agent man, as opposed to the romanticized view of the original. Bob 1 acts as the simple everyman who just has a job to do, and is resigned to a life of "safeguarding America's health," saluting the flag, and making prayers of gratitude (as opposed to prayers for his safety, oddly enough).

  • these guys were on some serious drugs

  • @Leaddevo It has been documented that they were/are anti-drugs of all kinds.

  • @monopolymike1 it has also been documented that they spent a LOT of time at studio 54. they werent just drinking punch and eating pie... just saying.

  • @Leaddevo Mark Mothersbaugh, lead dude Devo, does a lot of music for Nickolideon, like Rug Rats.

They did this tune and Can't get Get No Satisfaction on Saturday Night Live back way then

  • Thats it!, i've heard enough, now im going to jump off of a nice size building with an umbrella Tah..Tah kiss the dog for me

  • this is not secret agent man this is we are devo off of the film they did back in the 80's i think i have the vhs some where

  • @azunomi Did you watch more than 54 seconds of the video? This is their cover of Secret Agent Man but the lyrics don't start until 1:20.

  • Is it normal that this video kind of creeps me out?

    Regardless, awesome song.

  • secret a-a-agent ma-a-an - secret agent man!...

  • 63 people dont thank god they're secret agents

  • That double-neck is badass beyond words.

  • Has this version been released? I heard its not the same version that's in Duty Now For The Future.

  • This is so compelling.

  • There was a time when doing drugs was inspired. Thank you DEVO

  • seems like silver apples would get some mention as long as people are bringing up pioneering electronic music...

  • 3:50 scariest thing ever

  • Isn't this a rip-off from Secret Agent Man by Johnny Rivers?

  • @Manwithjeep

It is what the industry calls a "cover version". Also, the lyrics have been changed a bit.

  • @Manwithjeep Oh yeah, THIS sure sounds alot like THAT song dumbass !

  • @Skulldini I said it was a rip-off idiot. Not an exact duplicate and yeah it does sound like it in places.

  • @Manwithjeep Well, only the title is the same as far as THIS here idiot can discern and if he remembers how the other goes.

  • secret afnt mn

  • that dool dude is way to scary and...........it looks like the joker u know like the thing thats so scary you cant stop watching yeah its that scary.(the doll)

  • total retard

  • Duty now, spuds!!

  • Scary!

  • Love the Percussion!

  • They should have kept going with the intro. The wacky corny synth cover was ok, I guess.

  • best band ever. EVER!!!!!!

  • noise in the beginning, the raw sound of the song and the slow-what-the-hell-tempo is just orgasmic

  • i like too much

  • Much better than the "Duty Now" version ! Thanks !!!

  • Sliptknot with Skill @ makeing Music?

  • You can mix crazy Japanese gameshows, surrealist art, drugs and an insane asylum in a blender, and it still won't be as weird as Devo!

  • We should all watch this on TIVO! ; )

  • @zeronova77 Are we not men?

  • I love the car.

  • SIIIIIIIIIIIII GRANDISSIMI DEVO,UN GRANDISSIMO GRUPPO DEL PASSATO,YESSSSSSS

  • why so serious

  • I love the fact that this is the intro to Smart Patrol!

  • @xerochi

I was wondering about that meself!

  • i love whip it but this is a crock of shit. And i love tonto who produced this.

  • @cjprior88 "i love whip it"..that about sums it up spuddy.

  • fuckn acid trip

  • this is refreshingly stupendous. Awesome!!!

  • The music is so bent wicked, and the vid is crooked awesome. I thought the spuds did cover of their cover of Johhny Rivers, you know "double cover" just like a secret agent would do. Then I read this was made prior to their album version and I feel just like one of those Beatles junkies when they score on some previously unreleased crap from lennon. Chimps with paddles - did these guys get all their props from ax-man surplus?!

  • i friggin love it wen bob1 does vocals

  • I always thought this song was called, Secret Asian Man. It fits well. I still like this song very much.

  • booji boy rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Booji's mannersisms are disturbing in the slightest ways as well as the obvious. I hope I have a baby like Booji boy!

  • @mistersmith6000 LOL That's the funniest thing I've read in awhile!

  • I love this video.Booji Boy rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this is old days industrial metal right here lol. Some hard shit

  • THIS SONG IS SO MESSED UP IT RULES

  • thats a pretty messed up song and vid

  • I love how at 1:21 Booji Boy is just like 'WTF? I was in the zone.'

  • If they changed the lyric "secret agent man", this would have been an original song :P

  • best video ever

  • Holy mother fuckin shit I'm in live with fuckin DEVO to the ex fuckin treme

  • This has such an un-polished, garage quality to it, it's hard not to love it.

  • Oh God, I love how the opening segment is not only pitch-bent, but also, the oldness of the tape warps the sound, creating an OMFG WHAT IS THIS noise. :D

  • @hotelmario510 it the begining to the demo of thier song smart patrol

  • @TVindustries5000 I like it.

  • @hotelmario510 - This is from the DVD release.

  • @mg196 Cool.

  • 0:57

    BOOJI!

  • this video scares me

  • Best - i agree with all comments that show this too be a much richer, stinkier, sicker version than on 'Duty Now' . The intestinal troubles Booji boy is having whilst getting out the car (listen) are just part of the rot that starts it so well and only gets worse. Excellent!

  • @DancingSpiderman dunno if someone already responded to this, but the guy stroking the doll hanger is the Chinaman, played by Jerry Casale

  • @LonelyAtTheTop79 hahaha, thanx. I always wondered WHO was stroking that doll hanger. Jerry. Stroking the doll hanger would be something Rod Rooter would do, but obviously that guy did not look like Rod

  • wah! that is such odd makeup!

  • I'LL GET YOU BOOJI BOY, IF IT'S THE LAST THING I DO!

  • hell yeah

  • hell yeah!

  • it's kinda of creepy in a way,but i LOVE it

  • Devo is awesome... not to be mistaken for vivo, destroyer of songs.

  • 0_0

    MY EARS!!!!!

    TO MUCH TECNO!!!

they cannot do better than Johnny Rivers!!

  • i'm glad they put this back on their set list. they played this before their first record came out. just saw them in Kansas City yesterday. liked them since 7th grade but never had a chance to see them live until now. they sounded awesome too, just as good if not better than the live recordings from the 70s.

  • WICKED OPENING SOUND!!!!!!

  • WHERE CAN I FIND THIS TRACK???!!

  • Devo... a really good band! I miss their whackiness but, they sometimes sounded like they were mking theme songs for old Troma movies.

  • This is one of the most hilarious things I have ever seen.

  • Don't know if this was commented on before, but my friend owns a tape with this on it and all their early material. The place they're driving from is the Firestone plant in Akron and to a bar in Kent. The name escapes me but it's still a bar today.

  • @bobrox70 the bar is "JB's Down"

  • @sio67 thanks, i knew it was J something!

  • @sio67

Or perhaps "J.B.'s Down Under" ?

  • made my 'legendary remixes' list & my boring day - thanks!

  • a pior banda que já vi e ouvi

  • I'm sorry, but those pants at 3:29 kick ass. They look like they are made out of a moving blanket!

  • version on Duty Now is much better, but this version is an interesting listen, and this video is fucking priceless!

  • Boogie Boy rocks

  • YEAH ..this gives Planet Claire a run for there money I LOve it

    .Alaskiian

  • @horizonak hahaha when I heard Planet Claire I immediately thought of this song. B-52s always remind me of Devo, though.

  • That doll mask creeps me the fuck out!

  • @Masmosaic1

YEAH, there was this supposedly semi-true story adaption of a real crime film with Liv Tyler called "The Strangers" that had a couple of characters who break in Tyler's home (a la Clockwork Orange style) wearing masks just like that.

  • I thought this song was from Blues Traveler

  • Was mocked and laughed at when I would wear my Devo shirt around my fellow RUSH metal rock loving friends in HSchool they just didn't get it. Most do now ove 3 decades later. "Are We Not Men" album sold me on them quickly.. "Uncontrollable Urge" "Beautiful World" etc.... "I{m a big pirate and I like to steal! Rahahahaha..." They defnitely were "Pioneers Who Got Scalped" Smart, catchy and not as respected as they should be still. Oh and whats with the paddling monkees in this? hahaha

  • Cool version. Ahead of their time.

  • I hate it when adults say to each other "Oh, when I was a kid I always thought it was 'secret ASIAN man'". My sister and I just look at each other and we're like "WTF! How do you even get that?!" Seriously, almost every adult I've watched this around has said that. It's a really stupid and unfunny thing to say. I never thought it was that. Maybe it's just an old person thing to say? lol

  • @JohnnyLovelyOfficial I think everyone's had that experience at least once.

  • @JohnnyLovelyOfficial Its a old concept. Someone actually wrote a book about it.

  • This is a truly amazing version, especially the guitar solo - gives me the SHIVERS. And that's what good music is supposed to do - make you FEEL something. The masks and outfits and the beginning with the car and whatnot put it completely over the top.

  • this version is very cool!!!

  • Please join the CRUSADE on FACE BOOK to bring DEVO back to Saturday Night Live as MUSICAL GUEST & MOLLY RINGWALD as HOSTESS.

the SPUDS & FACE BOOK are waiting for you to do your DUTY NOW!

  • Ha- just thought I would say- I went to every D E V O concert . made up t-shirts .brought all my friends an even thought about , cut up my 1964 strat guitar. to resemble D e v o s , I had it bad always loved this band.

  • secret Asian man! nobody knows i am really Korean!

  • I actually started to feel genuine fear at this part 0:57

I don't know why, I just started to shake and I had to turn it off. WHAT THE HELL, DEVO?!

  • I love this, and not only because it looks and sounds like the maintenance crew at a nuclear power plant - after exposure to a lethal dose.
