I cut the dust cap with a dremel or similar rotary tool. First cut the sides off of the dust cap so ti will be flat like a washer, then I grind it down little by little and occasionally stopping to see if it fits inside the inner diameter of the sprocket. As soon as it fits smoothly, stop. You are finished.
mmmm...not really. That's the trick though, you need to cut the sides down even steven and stop periodically and see if it fits inisde the sprocket. The amount of grease that gets out of the hub should be minimal, and once you get everything reassembled all the parts will put pressure back onto the dust cap, which also helps.

when i cut off the sides wont that let dust in? have you had any issues with that?
