  • If you add the mod can you unplug it and just use the one on board afterword?

  • @CMMDG Yup. You can also use the one of the unit while you are using the external one. The external modification only extends the switch.

  • Congratulatione and Thankyou! Can I use one expression pedal?

  • @diegooio3 You cannot use an expression pedal to tap tempo. Tap tempos are momentary switches where as expression pedals are potentiometers. Different game.

  • @conleycd Great videos! I would love to see how you built the 3 switch box, and a closer look at the box itself. I have a similar setup with a DL4 and DD20 and am about to attempt your external tap mod. Would love to build a 3 switch box like yours.

  • Why take up more room on your board when the DL4's tap tempo is fine anyway ?

    i saw a mod where it worked the other way round, the lead came out of the DL4 and into another pedal with tap tempo, then you could tap it on the DL4 and it set both pedals to the same tempo

  • @rossmillerlol Well isn't that the great thing... you don't need to do it. I came up with this when I needed a tap tempo at the edge of my board (but not the rest of the DL4). I also used it to tap an additional pedal at the same time.

  • @conleycd Ah yeah, i guess so. I just assumed you used all the DL4 settings as well. My bad

  • @rossmillerlol That's what my first video showed. I explained that I prefer to have my tap tempo on the edge of my pedalboard but, at the time, I didn't need the DL4 at the edge - I wanted other stuff there. I also wanted to tap tempo 2 delays at the same time. I've since given up on the DL4. Too big, too much delay in sound when switching presets... too bad.

  • do you need a TRS cable to run this? or standard?

  • @bmwz20 Just a TS cable.

  • @bmwz20 Standard TS cable.

  • actually a guy name jimosity had it out for 6 years now he's even sponsered for his modding by the official company line 6 for this =D

  • @Morethanl1f3 As far as I am aware I was the first to discuss this or post it. There is a company that has been doing this mod after someone asked them to do it based on this video. I checked it out with the company.

  • I presume you must have at least seen a loop performance by Howie Day yes? Do you know or have any idea of how he gets the two pedals (One for guitar and the other for vocals) to be in sync with each other? Or is it a matter of practising your timing? Make your DIY video a video response to this video so people will click on it after they view this vid.

  • @MichaelDaeche I actually haven't seen that performance (I'll have to look it up). There's lots of ways you could do that with other devices. You could use this manner if you were using 2 DL4s and made similar mods to the other switches. You would just a single switch the switched them both (I think it would work). You might blow them up - or you could use a DPDT momentary switch and rig that up to both (record, play, overdub, tap). That way the 1 switch controls both

  • @conleycd It would be best to search up 'Howie Day Live At Madrigals' to see his better live performances with the use of his loop pedals. The song that best incorporates both pedals is 'Bunnies'.

  • can you just plug in the ext jack of another delay pedal to this new jack on the DL-4 and have the dl-4 switch tap both pedals? Cause my dl-4 is on the edge of my pedal board and that would work great attaching my dd-5 to it.

  • Yes and no. To ensure you have no problems you should make a dual tap with a DPDT momentary switch. The two contacts would tap the DL4 and the other 2 would tap the DD5. These are normally open contacts and they tap the tempo when closed.

  • you would think it would be able to send the signal with just soldering two wires to each joint. Also I tried the mod last night and it worked until I put the phono plug through the body of the unit, then I had the ground issue. The jack I used was mostly plastic, similar to you one in the video.

  • is there a way to make the dl-4's tap, tap the dd-5 with just one cable between the two?

  • There might be - but to be safe you should use a DPDT tap tempo box. The problem is that it is unclear (at least to me) what the DL4 tap tempo is doing inside the circuit. So if there is a voltage on one of the two wires - you don't want to run that voltage into an unknown circuit (i.e. DD5) and blow it up. That's why a DPDT switch will tap both but independently. You can tap two DD5s at the same time because both are doing the same thing in the circuit - they are known variables.

  • hey what are the other switches on the tap tempo switch you made?

  • @xxxthedaytonxxx There were 3 switches. The one on the left did the DL4 the one on the right did a DD5 and the one in the middle tapped them both. I did this using relays to independently and jointly control them all.

  • cant wait for the instructional vid!!

  • It's already up. It's been up for a little while now. It is my only other video. It take you through how to do it.

    I'm not sure why it doesn't have more hits?

    CC

  • That's cool man... I'd like to do this so that I can sync my DD5 and Dl4 to the same tempo for crazy dueling delays... I have a little tap tempo switch I made which is capable but I can't get it to work w/ DL4 yet

  • so whens the followup video coming .. i'm so keen to mod mine!

  • Hey guys. I'm going to be posting a video of how to do the mod in the next couple of days. Get your soldering irons heated up.

  • Hey im thinking about buying the dl4 soon. Is the dl4 better then the Boss DD-7?

  • I think it depends what you're into. If you want emulation stuff then maybe the DL4 is better. If you want nice delay with little space, tap tempo and expression then go DD7 perhaps. I'm also using TC Electronics Nova Delay which I like (no expression pedal though).

  • This is absolutely brilliant, I've been wanting something like this for my device. Do you have som kind of scheme for the circuit you perhaps could draw or scan in and e-mail? I'd love to have this feature on my DL4 :)

  • This is genius;

    I was looking for something like this so I can run it on a Y cable along with my DD-5;

    what service modded this for you?

    or did you mod it yourself?

  • Great idea
