Absolutely, he IS (or rather WAS) very much underestimated. Got a rare CD of his early recordings where he plays the Tartini violin concerto (a surprisingly hard piece...), Beethvoven Romance, The Devil's Trills by Tartini etc. Amazing playing.
Rolf! Thanks for posting this and yes, I do. This is the first time I've heard(thanks to you)Rostal playing.Very fresh, intelligent,good phrasing,true to the text,recognizable sound.
