These two had a history before this game. Lindros played for the Oshawa Generals, snubbing the Soo Greyhounds like he later did to the Nordiques. He was HATED in the Soo, and to make matters worse, he and the Generals beat the Soo on their way to winning the 1990 Memorial Cup. The next year, the two met again in the playoffs, and I will never forget Boughner just wrecking Lindros. Boughner skated away in victory, Lindros on one knee, blood dripping from his nose. Soo won the series too!
Two players wanted to fight Lindros simultaneously. That's how fucked up many players were. They feared and hated Lindros.Couldn't stop him legally, ever.Targetting his head was the only way how to stop the big man.Losers.
@toekneeeyeoweme Stevens decided to finish Lindros' career for good with that fucking garbage of his.He was owned by Lindros every time the two met and Lindros was one the very few, whom Stevens couldn't stop, couldn't fight, couldn't prevent from scoring every time their lines played each other.I'm pretty sure about that.Frustration got the best out of Stevens. When a volcano can no longer keep the pressure in check,it will erupt.
@88BigEtrain Garbage? It was a thunderous and CLEAN body check. Your love of Lindros has blinded you to the reality of the situation. Shoulda kept his head up....
@toekneeeyeoweme Yes,a garbage.Something that's finally being outlawed by the league.Stevens premeditated the whole hit way before he dished it out. That asshole had the info he needed about Lindros' status as Lindros was coming back from a previous concussion."The head up" argument is getting tiresome. In case you're interested,I could send the list of all players having their head down as they carry the puck down the ice.Heads up-it's a pretty long one.
@88BigEtrain I almost feel sorry for you. You are utterly blind to the reality of the situation. It was a clean hit. That's not even open for debate. The rest of your argument is irrelevant. LEGAL HIT. I don't understand your loyalty to a guy who was a pampered prima donna from day one...but to each his own.
@toekneeeyeoweme I feel sorry for your naivety and the lack of common sense. This hit was a worthless, reckless piece of garbage.I understand your hatred for Lindros.Actually hits like that started to be up for debate, and very serious at that hence they're being eliminated from the game.Lindros being prima donna?Why-because he refused to play for insolvent francophone team?Or that, thanks to him players now can get the independent second medical evaluation after a concussion and being rushed back.
And the one-man Linros defense team continues...so he was justified for throwing a girlish tantrum and not playing for a team? You are BLIND to the truth, son. He was one man...a decent player for sure but not deserving of any more than an honorable mention...won nothing and couldn't take a hit - that describes alot of hockey players.
@toekneeeyeoweme Dad,you're truly out there,no doubt about that.I assume that you're either misinformed or,even worse, that you purposely ignore what's around you.Well,I'm gonna reiterate it-Lindros refused to play for,at the time, lousiest, most insolvent, francophone team.Second,he blamed, rightfully so,the Flyers medical staff for misdiagnosing his concussion and being rushed back on the ice.A decent player-I doubt your sanity.Couldn't take a hit...you're out of your mind.Great as a joke though.
@toekneeeyeoweme You are misinformed. He won 2 World Jr's and was the MVP of the second. Was the only non-NHL player on the roster for the Canada Cup the same year. Gold medal. And won a gold and silver in the Olympics.

Example of running please??? Chris Simon, Marty McSorley, Ken Daneyko, Quintal, Grimson, Hatcher, McLaren, Simpson, Jason Doig, ....you don't have a clue man. Lindros was the only high scoring guy in the history of the game that could beat the shit out of anybody....with the exception of maybe Probert and Twist.
Well, a.) Boughie is tiny compared to HUGE Lindros. and b.) Boughner's first NHL game was 2/3/96, so this couldn't have been more than his third game in the big show.
Pretty brave for a rook of his size if you ask me. Way to go, Bobby.
