I think what happened was that the police didn't imagine a black woman (or even just a woman) in congress and is one of the guys who can't take a woman in a stronger power than him. The police should know who's in congress, he's like old yeller of DC, he supposed to protect the people.

Only recently saw this interview (Oct. 2008). Looks like a clear cut case of character assassination. McKinney was probably on watch list that we in 2008 know exist because of her candor on,(911,Dimecorp). Bet there were other means of identification being used. She should have simply said I felt I was being harassed by the officer and defended myself. Which any citizen has the right to do. Instead they used this to impeach her character. I've seen plenty of blacks being mistreated by cops. Think of what it must feel like to be a defender of civil rights, hearing complaints from your constituents about racial profiling, then being intimidated and harassed yourself.
Look at all the police abuse videos on YouTube. Cops can and do perpetuate and escalate physical violence for no reason, and many have been arrested for it. Don't think that anyone who gets accosted by a cop and becomes upset about it is automatically in the wrong.

However, that being said, she does make an understandable argument that the security system is inherrently flawed if the lapelle pin is the primary source for the capitol police to recognize Congressional representatives.

The "racial profiling" comment was taken out of context. It was addressed to the issue of the overall disrespect of black congress members. She didnt say that the capitol police stopped her because she's black.
