Don't wanna get shit for this but I've only listened to the album Elements, and then I decided to listen to Death for the first time, and immediately thought it was my sound, so I went back to listening to Atheist, now im listening to this album...and loving it. Just had to get that out of the way :D
I've never really been about death metal because most of what I'm exposed to is that "slam" shit of today... but this fucking rules. So well-written, and it's technical in an intelligent way instead of just jacking themselves off like many death bands. Almost jazz-influenced sounding... but still brutal. Great job Atheist. Very pleasure.

i've seen them yesterday in kalrsruhe as support for the black dahlia murder. they only had time for 5-6 songs. but they rocked the hell out of the club, one of the best shows ever! fuck, they should have been the main act! there were like 150 people, but most of them were metalcore kids with emo haircut + caps & stuff and they did violent "dance" like they were homos. one of them said "shall we give the band (atheist) a chance?" lol i could punch him in the face! the world today is twisted...

As soon as a harmony is built. 3 seconds later it's gone to another harmony, and that is then later destroyed with some lame half assed riff for 5 seconds, to be followed by more 4 second crap harmony. HOW IS THIS THE BEST ALBUM!?!?!?! THIS DOESN'T EVEN FUCKING DESERVE A 3/10. I'd give it 2.5 for originality and skill, but boring as a mother fucker.

That's probably the only metal album in history (and one of only few rock albums in history) that achieve this with simply being playful. One of the most amazing parts about first two Atheist albums is just that! That they can achieve perfect balance by being spontaneous and not caring about it at all. Oh communication is there and it's all over the place :D Work those ears of yours man ;P
@kbprojekty I think spontaneous and communication contradict the other. I agree that it's spontaneous, but I have never understood how or why people could enjoy such things. I like melodies that I can remember, of course not right away because that would mean it's too simple (although some exclusions from this). Melodies that rhyme well and remembering a melody or riff weeks after you haven't listened to a song is what makes a song great. Perfect example: Sodom's Agent Orange (title track).

@kbprojekty Please explain how that is so? The arrangement and harmonies are all over the place, without any communication with one another. As soon as a harmony is built. 3 seconds later it's gone to another harmony, and that is then later destroyed with some lame half assed riff for 5 seconds, to be followed by more 4 second crap harmony. HOW IS THIS THE BEST ALBUM!?!?!?! THIS DOESN'T EVEN FUCKING DESERVE A 3/10. I'd give it 2.5 for originality and skill, but boring as a mother fucker.

@MagnaThor This album strength lies in the spontaneous communication between those elements. That's probably the only metal album in history (and one of only few rock albums in history) that achieve this with simply being playful. One of the most amazing parts about first two Atheist albums is just that! That they can achieve perfect balance by being spontaneous and not caring about it at all. Oh communication is there and it's all over the place :D Work those ears of yours man ;P

@kbprojekty I think spontaneous and communication contradict the other. I agree that it's spontaneous, but I have never understood how or why people could enjoy such things. I like melodies that I can remember, of course not right away because that would mean it's too simple (although some exclusions from this). Melodies that rhyme well and remembering a melody or riff weeks after you haven't listened to a song is what makes a song great. Perfect example: Sodom's Agent Orange (title track).

@MagnaThor This is all subjective, man. Many people find it natural to remember rhymes that other consider to be completely sick. When I was 15, I listened to a lot of brutal death and remembered every riff of every band on the scene. How natural is that for 15 years old kid? It's all a matter of taste. If you think spontaneous and communication contradict each other, I guess you just discredited every jazz album in history.
