You know after reading thousands of comments on you tube, I'm really amazed at how little people really know about the Carpenters, but when you read alot of crap people write they try to convince you, that this is the way it was. The truth is unless you knew Karen, Richard, the band, or anyone in the posse you don't know. Richard knew that people would try to paint him as the bad guy. But let everyone in on a secret don't believe everything you hear, or read. He does so much good for the world!
FACTS 4 : Why don't you few but strange mentally comprimised people try getting some kind of usefull, positive life instead of trying to convince other people of lies about a wonderful man and extraordinary talented musician whose main achievement in life was to bring happiness to millions including your pathetic lives!
FACTS 3: Because of Richard's ear for a great hit song and his own song writing ability,The Carpenter's sold more records than anyone else during the 20th century's most musically talented ,active and diverse decade and accomplished this entire feat between the years 1970-73! Sure Karen was the greateast pop singer that ever lived, but she may not have ever figured it out even for herself without her talented brother. Now enough b.s. about her supposedly evil, uncaring, jealous brother.Enough b.s.!!
FACTS 2 ; and some of Karen's songs would have been mistaken for disco music and would have quickly been adopted by the disco era and The Carpenters would be generally depised by people throughout history as a total sell-out band like Chicago ended up being(and were).Without Richard,100's of songs sung by Karen would have never been recorded including of course their best songs and biggest hits.So I don't want to hear anymore of these b.s. rumors about how Richard ruined her !!!!
FACTS : Without Karen idolizing her serious hard working musician brother, she never even would have thought of a music career, but remained the baseball playing tomboy that she was before she decided she wanted to be just like her brother after watching him for several months or maybe even years. The only mistake Richard made possibly with her was delaying the release of her solo album,And he had a very good reason for it.Had he released that album, which was made during the disco era.....
I always loved this song. If they would have released this album, who knows what it could have done for her. It was current, adult, and proved that Karen could really sing anything. In her low or high register. Such sadness....
Where is Karen's low voice? Her whole solo album is sung in her high voice. What the hell happened, Phil (Ramone)?!!! Karen's powerful voice is her low voice, and her high voice works like magic as a counter to her low voice. Was she trying to sound like Olivia Newton John? It was a terrible decision, however it came to be. Most of her solo songs could be very special with Karen's full voice, but with only her high voice, it sounds like something got lost on the editing room floor.
i cant believe a&m shelved her solo album! with this fantastic songs, i never really understand. karen did a good job i love all her songs in solo album!
This may sound dumb. I love Karen so much that when I saw that she had a solo album that didn't make that much of an impact, I said: "I wanna get that album!"
Anybody know the name of the album? Year? I know it was produced by Phil Ramone but nohing else I know. Thank you! Karen sounds awesome here and always!
I guess I just lost my head, I know we should really know much better, I guess I just lost my head, I know we don't really know eachother, So pardon the things I said, won't you tell me you forgive me...........??"
A........I really don't mean to stare, I was only trying to memorise you there,You know I meant no harm, it's just that the starlight in your eye gave me a chill,.. really made me cry, I am sure it's very clear. I don't know what's going down, you're gonna ruin this poor girl from out of town, I like the way you move so much....".......
Music Music Music 1980 Watch this show and you will see the Sparkling Karen and the Classic Richard. They were ONE in music, one sound so succesful in the 70's.They worked so well together and loved eachother dearly.Indeed Karen Carpenters Solo is very 2000!! People do enjoy but don't lose respect for Richard Carpenter, for if he wouldn't have started going to the studio, there would not have been any Sound at all? GUESS I JUST LOST MY HEAD is also one of my favourits. Please Do Enjoy CARPENTERS:-)
"Guess I Just Lost My Head" is also my favorite from her solo album! I also really like "Lovelines".. although I like the version in the Lovelines album better
Great song, unlike all the carpenters songs on this one karen gets rid off her anoying brother´s sound, and you can still listen to the normal carpenters´s music
To many people, believe it or not, Richard's sound is annoying. A lot of people only like Carpenters because of Karen's voice. I, of course love Carpenters and Richard's arrangements... but there are many cases in which I feel that Karen's solo works are quite a bit more in tune with today's sounds. Her solo album was way ahead of it's time with it's jazz/funk rhythms which is a very popular sound nowadays.
I do agree Rick, I too find that Karen's feminin side sounds so more natural in the SOLO album, so shelving it was a logic thing to do at that time for the pruducers, cause it would have sold out right there and then, and after that Carpenters original sound would maybe have sounded kinda gloomy (apologise) for a while but eventualy it would have been succes all over again, cause Carpenters were a selling gold group ion the 70's, Yet all the albums and songs of Carpenters are pure diamonds!:-)
@amc84morales this might sound dumb...but it wouldn't really be "the carpenters sound" without Richard...yea. If you don't really like his voice, you probably shouldn't be listening to their music
@yayanmorales Richard Carpenter was a controlling person who would stir her sister´s carrer as he pleased don´t forget the fact that her solo album wasn´t released because of him, and yet he wanned the recognition that her sister had. Let´s not forget that he was responsible por their earlier sucess but he could never move to new directions and that´s what made the carpenters old fashioned and lost their popularity.
@amc84morales WHY DON'T YOU GET RID OF THIS STRANGE OBSESSION OF YOURS TO RIGHT THE WORLD AND HISTORY THAT ONLY EXISTS IN YOUR NEUROTIC MIND,PLEASE!I THINK YOU'D BE A LOT HAPPIER AND MAYBE FIND A REAL PURPOSE IN LIFE THAT'S WORTH WHILE AND HAS MEANING.NO ONE AGREES WITH YOU OR EVER WILL BECAUSE IT'S ALL FANTASY AND NOT TRUE .RICHARD WAS HALF THE CARPENTERS AND YOU'RE NEVER GOING TO CHANGE THAT!
