Actually the cross is not upside down. The cross she is wearing is square, The bail is what makes the top arm look longer. Not the best choice I have always thought, But not really blasphemous.

Hmm... I disagree. It's an upside down cross. What's normally thought of as a square crosee is one that's placed within a circle. It truly is square with each arm of equal size. I'm not saying that you couldn't fit her cross in a square, but it still seems obviously to be upside down for whatever reason. The top arm doesn't 'look' longer. It is longer. Look at any good photo of her and you can see it's upside down.

There are plenty of examples in history of "square" crosses. The Greeks, the Celts. The cross of St Brigid is woven from rushes and is also square. I have watched the series twice on DVD and I have watched that cross the whole time. If you look closely, there is a bail holding it to it's chain. I really don't think that this show would be as popular as it is if the vicar is swinging an USD cross. She's not exactly Ozzie Osbourne.
