This was my first Michigan football game I ever attended, and my first experience in the Michigan Marching Band. What a great start to the best four years of my life! ....I got so wasted later that night...
Vanderbilt is NOT a quality team! They are an SEC bottomfeeder and they have won a total of 1 conference game in the past two years. Yeah they won a bowl in 2008, but after a 5-0 start, they bottomed out against the real teams in the SEC.
The Vanderbilt game was probably one of the most frustrating games I've seen that we actually won. Their defense harassed Michigan and it was really lackluster. All Michigan did was run the draw. But we won.
Michigan didn't want to show off their offense for the first 2 games of the year because their third game was against notre dame, who were #2 in the nation at the time. Watch the 2006 Michigan Notre Dame game and see a real show
It's only really boring because the defense did a lot of the work. They kicked serious ass that year so the offense didn't have to go that far to score usually.
Carr was holding back the offense in this game and the next one against CMU so we wouldn't show ND too much. Then in South Bend, we unleashed the passing game with Mario Manningham in that ass kicking of the Irish.
I also remember this being one of the hottest game days I'd been at. Only thing worse was Appalachian State, and...well... that didn't end so well. Go blue!
I was at the...ahem, App State game and I don't remember it being too hot.
The Washington game in 2002 was probably the hottest game ever at the big house. Some fans left in the second half cause they couldn't take the intense heat anymore.
This is the game where Mark may said Vanderbilt "outplayed" us. I lost all respect for May after that comment. He hates Michigan, and he always has a boner for USC. He's so pathetic.
Go Blue!
PS: here's to Kevin Grady having a successful senior year next season!
Looks to me from this that Michigan easily outplayed Vanderbilt here. The only time I've seen the better team lose by three touchdowns was Penn State vs Ohio State 2006 (it was 14-6 until the last two minutes).
Wow, MVillani, you pathetic delusional loser. The rain kept you in that game. You actually think that Morelli-led team was better than tOSU? Sober the fuck up.
The rain wasn't marching Penn State down the field several times. The rain wasn't outgaining OSU on the ground. If the rain "kept PSU in the game" shouldn't OSU have dominated everywhere but the scoreboard? Why are you making excuses? You won. The way the game played out implied that it would've been a shootout without rain.
Do I think that Morelli led team that got blasted by Notre Dame was better than OSU overall? No, but I think they WERE the better team that day, at least for 58 minutes.
Holy cow I don't remember them playing Vanderbilt this recently, but historically played them a lot, and owned them then too.

IMO, ever since Appalachian State, we've been in a complete downward spiral. Will we ever recover?
commodorefan2 1 year ago
@commodorefan2 I think ever since OSU beat UM in the #1 vs. #2 match, and the eventual loss to USC was the beginning of the spiral.

Hey look at that a SEC home game!? why cant we schedule more quality teams like this anymore!?

The only time Vanderbilt could ever be referred to as a "quality team" in the past 30 years is during a joke.

That is an excellent point, but the defense DID have something to do with it. :P

I was there. I was loving the fact that the Michigan defense gave that Vanderbilt quaterback a day he'll never forget (but one he wish he would).
