  • o and also you get a STRAIGHT picture so its not all bent up on the sides

    i just noticed that

PLEASE get an LCD montiors o and its ALOT easier to carry around and move

  • hey get an LCD monitor

CRT monitors are very bad for your eyes and it flickers alot in the video

o AND LCD uses 25watts and crt uses a WHOPPING 100 watts for a pure white background so just think about it

  • Lxde Would Be Fine For That System m8

  • if the computer is so old, what's the reason in installing kde? gnome, xfce and other lightweight desktop environments fit great for that computers. Ubuntu, Mandriva and SuSE with gnome will easily run on any computer

  • soooo get a new PC? thats an idea ..........

  • Have u tried using Simply Mepis, i used it on my dad's Lifebook 900 mhz 256mb ram 20gb HD runs fine.

  • @Kinguto

The first Linux distro I ever had success with for SimplyMepis 3.5 on my Dell PII with 320 ram. I have great fondness for Warren and his work. But the latest version is another thing. KDE 4 is a resource hog whoever tries to package it. Nepomuk, and Akonadi ruin the experience on low resource machines. I did try Mepis 8.5. Couldn't get video to work.

  • @allenbeme I install version8.0 on my dad laptop works perfect, i tried 8.5 after a few months of using 8.0, but as u say video doesnt work, go down a version u will like it.

  • i have the same emachines t 1100 and i installed ubuntu 9.10 last night and it works fine! lol idk why u cant but it worked for me took a few times due to a hard drive with bad sectors but after a hard drive swap it works great! little slow becuase i only have 384 mb or ram in there right now trying to get more!

    great vid

  • Lol you should really get a new computer to run Linux.

  • You are right. Why should linux have to support older hardware?

  • You should try Arch, its worth the effort, especially if you're using KDE.
