  • This movie is a fucking garbage!

I don't want to see a gay stalker superman getting his ass kicked by some random thugs who impale him with a kryptonite.

I don't want to see Superman lifting a kryptonite island

And I don't want to see a fucking underwear model cast as Superman!

I want an epic Superman movie with an amazing and memorable performances a kick-ass villains and and an amazing plot that sets up a huge kryptonian mythology.Eric Bana or Karl Urban for Superman!

    December 2012 WB!

  • These guys faces are way too close to each other.

  • Love it or hate it, it was better than Superman 4.

  • it was better technically, but supes returns was a major rehash of the first film. it was noir. superman noir? nah

  • Actually, its a cinematic masterpiece all around compared to both supes 3 and 4. I still don't get why everyone has such a problem with it. Its a fun movie. It has its weak points but it does try.

  • I thaugh he did an ok job

  • I agree with JD....this movie was a TRAGEDY.....part 1 regurgitated all the way. Good stuff? Plane scene. That is all.

  • I liked the original Superman movies but this movie was horrible and quite boring in my eyes.

  • agreed. there was no optimism in this film that usually accompanies superman. it wasn't rousing or fun. it was dark and depressing. here supes was dark and weird. at the end he ended up just being lois' baby's daddy. superman needs to stay moral and decent, not insecure and brooding. thats for batman

  • I know some people will criticize me for liking Superman Returns, but personaly I enjoyed this movie very much. People don't understand what Bryan Singer trying to do. I guarantee if he makes the sequel it would have action and some suspence. Another issue is that this movie could have been so much worse if someone like Brett Ratner or Michael Bay would have directed.

  • Super Man sucked balls!!! I wish it was good but it sucked!!!

  • guy with beard for the win. Especially now after Dark Knight people have realized that you can't half-ass a huge budget comic book movie. Thank you again Chris Nolan for raising the bar, which up till then was despicably low

  • this was a great movie...is a great movie.... you might not like the parameters...within which the character has to exist, for example the tights and the glasses disguise, but that is a fault of the character not being updated, not necessarily the movie being bad(it's all subjective as is all art) The special effects and action scenes were flawless(for the most part) and the character was played with heart, and also with pain and loneliness..which was great... I loved it

  • Superman returns was completely wrong. Issues I had:

    1) It was too Dark.

    2) The whole theme of Superman 1 and 2 was, "You will believe a man can Fly". I'm sorry there were too many Green Screen effects and no enough wires. I absolutely love the first two films due to the amazing wire scenes and effects which actually put a film 30 years on to shame.

    3) I found brandon a bit wooden as superman. As Clark Kent he was ok, but his lines as superman just came out like he was reading them.

  • the guy with the beard is tottaly right .

the other guy is a gay fag

  • Gay fag? Really?

  • I'm sorry but these guys don't know what they are talking. I agree Superman Returns was just a rehashing of Superman 78. But by no means Superman is a character that should be dark and brooding. They need to reboot the series and get to the core of the character...This was a tragedy.

  • superman is somewhat bumbling.

also: they were not very close to the comics.he never had a son, even though they never said it, which is complete crap.

  • i liked the first trailer for the movie better than the movie itself.

  • wow jd usally likes the movies

  • I agree with the guy with the beard.

  • so do i...i didn't enjoy this movie much and i'm not looking forward to the next one.

  • I heard rumors that the sequel, Man of Steel will have new actors and story. It might be remade like the Hulk, I really hope it is remade

  • great review.

  • JD you do know that the kid was Superman's right?

  • I'm almost scared to see what J.D. will think about The Black Knight. Though, he did think Iron Man was fantastic, which it is.

  • Dark Knight.

  • You folks didn't have a problem with him being a stalker with an illegitimate child?

  • actually, i thought that was great!

    -Eric

  • I guess it seemed more like the newer, darker DC comics, but even if it was interesting from a character standpoint...DAMN was it disturbing! I kept asking myself in the Imax 'This is the guy I'm supposed to be rooting for?'

  • i liked the movie.i thought it was good

  • I'll agree with the guy on the right... Superman Returns was bad... there was no real fight in there... he picks up a rock at the end.

  • J.D was right. This movie was practically a remake of the first Superman.

  • Although I disagree with him regardind the Superman disguise. Eric was right on this one: that's just something you have to go with. You absolutely CAN'T have Superman wearing a mask.

  • That is really what sets Superman apart from gay ass heroes like Spiderman.....he doesn't wear a mask. There is no getting around his emotion and that is why people connect more with Superman or should anyway. And the whole stalker thing is just misinturpreted big time.....

  • Why is the guy on the left almost 90 percent right most of the time and the guy on the right never really likes anything? lol

Superman Returns was a good movie...

  • Well I think that Superman being able to not be recognised as Clark is just cause he's a great method actor ;)

Seriously though I think that's a valid point about the glasses but in all honesty it's not the backbone of the film. The backbone of the movie is the character.

  • Utter garbage. Singer took a nosedive with this film. I think he saw the raw emotion in the first two Spider Man films, and tried to relate that to Superman. We get it Brian..Superman is sad and lonely with a huge messianic complex. Remarkably weak plot as well. I have never left a theater feeling so cheated and duped in my entire life. Leave the melodrama for daytime television and let heroes be true heroes and not infantile whiners who stalk their ex-girlfriends.

  • Spiderman fanboy shut up....

  • "This guy is fucked up man."lmao

He was pretty fucked up emotionally. However when you have someone who is pretty much invicible you need to give him some kind of problem. I think the movie portrayed the fact that Superman isn't perfect and he does have issues pretty well. the fact that he was imperfect allowed me to identify w/ the character alot more. Older portrayls of a perfect, goody-goody superman is one of the reasons i prefered%2

  • Superman Returns in the greatest Superman film in my opinion.Routh, for a first time actor, did a terrific job.Bosworth was a bit miscasted, Carla Gugino would have been better, but i still think she did a good job.And the special effects were mind-blowing.

  • Ugh. This movie was just a requel of Superman: The Movie and it was done terribly. Routh sucked. Bosworth was TERRIBLE. CGI was bad. Plot was complete rip off. Superman was a stalker. The kid was more than lame.

  • These guys both have points. All in all, though I was happy to see Superman fly again, the movie did lack in areas. My personal biggest complaint would be, putting aside Brandon's acting, he just didn't have the physical build for the part of Superman. And, yeah, I thought the scene of him looking into Lois' house was stalkerish when I saw it. What if Lois and her guy, or just Lois, had been in the middle of, erm, other things when he looked in (rhetorical question)

  • This retard on the right complaining about Clark's disguise saying it is pedestrian and pathetic to not come up with something better. You have to accept that going in, it has been that way for damn near 100 years. What is Singer supposed to do have Superman show up to the daily planet wearing a fucking mask.

  • The guy on the left is an idiot. The guy on the right is completely RIGHT!

  • Superman Returns is a farce to Superhero movies, and Singer should be ashamed of himself for making this emo crap!

Singer is a hack, and this movie clearly showed it... Routh cannot act, the story is a peice of shit, and the action is to small on screen time to really make you care about even that!

This movie isn't even worth watching for free on tv!

Don't waste your time or money on Superman Returns...

  • Superman Returns is the best Superhero movie of all time, at least until Superman Returns 2 i loved every minute of it.

  • xenoploid & Tuber77 Took the words right out of my mouth. Anyway let me clear up the Clark/Superman identity thing, Superman's "Aura" (the life force that surrounds every living being) is what makes him invulnerable. At the same time his Aura can act like "the power of suggestion" with out having too say anything. So with a little acting & a pair of fake glasses his outward appearance will always seem deferent when he is Clark or Superman.

  • Well i agree with J.D.. As far as it being a character study of a God. Well Superman is not god. Bosworth was was to young and was a very Bitchy & Unlikable Lois Lane. As far as Reeve & Kidder having a Slap stick thing going on. All i can say at least Superman 1&2 were fun & magical movies. Sure it might seen chessy now. But i would take Superman the movie over Returns anyday of the week. I think Batman Begins was great. But i do agree that Kate Holmes was one worst thing about it.

  • By the time he strikes his crucifiction pose it falls flat (no pun intended), because the audience hasn't connected with the character's emotions fully enough, since, well, he doesn't really have any aside from a few smirks and a grimace when he's lifting heavy shit.

  • It's simple: Routh, Can't, ACT! To those who think Lois and him were awkward together because they lacked chemistry or because he is actually "gay", forget it. The fact is he's just plain DULL. EMOTE already! Jeezus. It wasn't terrible, it just never reached any emotional climax due to a stoic actor with only a handful of lines.
