a clause is a group of words that contain a subject and a verb that shows time (or tense). if it can stand alone it is an independent clause, for example he is old. if it doesn't stand alone, like although he is old, it is a dependent clause.

Isn't a Clause a word or a group of words that may or may not stand alone, is this the correct definition? Also my teacher gave me a question on a test parts of speech, wouldn't he be talking about the 8 parts of speech? The question was define part of speech? Is he referring to the 8 parts of speech? Also i was having problems with infinitives. Isn't an infinitive the form of a to be verb and a main verb in front of it? Thanks for your help in advance.
