I saw Avatar Saturday, and while the basic premise of the movie is anti- imperialism, at the same time the so called 'good guys' or the NaVi are basically a bunch of tree hugging earth worshipping environmentalists. So the real message of the movie was the typical 'oh look the big bad humans are destroying mother earth and the forces of nature must unite to fight the evil humans', which is how the movie ends. Its pure Club of Rome type propaganda, its got nothing to do with space.

yes. I don't agree 100% with AJ's reviews on movies but I agree with him about how there are so many people who do not pick up on all the underlying themes and obvious propaganda in today's movies. Nobody is perfect, but I find myself missing half of a movie explaining what is going on and why the characters are doing what they are doing when watching one with them.

I really don't think it was made to be propaganda. The story isn't complex, it uses cliche story archetypes. I didn't like the Green message of the movie, but I don't think it's horrible propaganda as Alex suggests. If anything the message is that military and gov't will team up to keep people dumb and make a shitload of cash.
