  • Kevin Burke is a true master-I bought his Green Linnet release "Up Close", and I have been a fan ever since-and Cal Scott is awesome-coming from a 30 year guitar player!!!

  • Not so mad on the middle tune, but fantastic fiddling, guitarist is cracking when he gets going in the third tune- before that I confess I found his very flat style rather irritating. Chords are great though :)

  • I'll correct myself the first slide is called: "Teahan's favourite"

  • The guitar gives the music cape-breton like sound?!

  • anybody know the names of the tunes?

  • Slides. First one I know as Art O'Keefe's. Don't know the others.

  • the second is Star Above the Garter. Don't know the others.

  • 1. Bill Tarrent's

    2. Star Above the Garter

    3. Timmy the Donkey (Original name is in Irish and I don't know how to say it or spell it)

  • Have they recorded this somewhere, and if so, what's the official name of the track so I can buy it? This is just astonishing.

  • Incredible.

  • Kevin Burke is a fiddle god! I have an Irish fiddle book with a photo of him playing in a session, he looks like he's about 10 years old. And he does keep getting better, if that's possible.

  • This is wonderful! You both sound great! *****!!!

  • Well, in answer to your question adadses, take little sections at a time. listen to the first statment and then try and play it, this is the traditional way of playing. Best of luck!

  • Thanxs man. I can play guitar, that's really helped with "knowing" the notes. i think the violin is alot about beat and playing lots of notes. Lovely to hear. Like magic.

  • wow! i am so jealous! i have a violin but i'm starting from scratch. any advice from folks on how starting to play like this? I'm thinking maybe just getting a book of basic fiddle tunes.

  • private lessons is always a good idea :) Would save a lot of time searching youtube for just the right vids.

  • adadses, Kevin Burke has many learning cd's and dvd's, they are great. I'm using them myself. Google "Homespun Tapes".

  • I love the way Kevin does a wee dance with his head - can't resist his own playin'!

  • Is that Seamus Creagh's slide?

  • This set consists of the following three tunes:

Art O'Keeffe's slide - The Star Above The Garter - Taidhgin an Asails Jig.

You can find the same set on the Sliabh Notes CD 'Along Blackwater's Banks'

  • Kevin Burke is so very good. Such economy in playing.

  • Does anyone know where I might get some sheet music for any of the stuff this man just played? He's an amazing player, thanks for the great video.

  • He's simply a virtuoso of traditional fiddle music. He's just great, and his playing stands out among other masters. Check out Aly Bain, too. Another one of my favorite fiddlers.

  • That'S So Amazing... Great!!!!!!! So So Much Lovely!!! Truly Irish One!

  • wow you guys are pretty good, where is a good place to learn how to play traditional music like that?? another words how did you get your start??

  • They are playing three slides. The first one was called Art O'Keefe's on Kevin's recording on Patrick Streets "Street Life" CD. The second is "The Star Above the Garter". Jackie Daly call the last one "Where is the Cat?".

  • He is the BEST! Sorry that there are people out there whom want to be the top. Kevin Burke being Naturally gifted + the years with Experience and skills. He plays from the Soooooul. ( anonoymous :)

  • wow he's so smooth

  • Wow! Really neat to get to watch him play. He's great. You have met so many great fiddlers Sam, it's unbelievable.

See you Leahy Camp next week. :)

  • I am truly lucky. I am living my dream. See you at Leahy's.

    Sam

  • These two guys really know what they're doing. What a treat.

  • Such beautiful tunes, masterfully played! Had never heard of these musicians, but they are amazingly talented, thanks for posting this video! :)

  • Thanks so much. You need to find some music by Kevin Burke. He played with the Bothy Band. He replaced Tommy Peoples. he is by far one of the greatest fiddlers out there. his bow arm is as smooth as they get. He is also a super great guy. Check out his new cd, but try to get a hold of his older works. He truly is a Master. Cal is also a great musician in his own right.
