If you know not of Ollie Halsall, listen to Patto's "Give It All Away" (now - and only recently - absent from YouTube) or, even better, the entire 'Hold Your Fire' album. Criminally "unknown" monster guitarist, monster vibist, & monster pianist (& the Fifth Rutle). In my estimation, NO other British rock guitarist could ever touch him (no, I don't consider Holdsworth a rock guitarist). Some decent Patto clips can be found here, as well as some great playing (but lousy songs) w/Tempest.
I love BOTH bands, so am disappointed in A.P. A "donkey" soccer player is technically unskilled, so clearly a dis. J.G. was never a monster player, but Dark Star is a SLOW song, & the Live Dead version A.P.'s referencing is beautifully played, & J.G. channels God's Own Tone the entire album (& demonstrates plenty of "technical skill" on The Eleven/Lovelight). A.P. is clearly too hip to give the Dead props, & embarassed to even be mentioning them. (At least he likes Ollie Halsall...)

As someone who LOVES both XTC AND the Dead, I'm definitely disappointed in Andy Partridge here. Given that a "donkey" soccer player is one who is technically unskilled, that's clearly a dis of Garcia. Although Jerry was never a monster player, Dark Star is a SLOW song, for chrissake, and the version (from Live Dead) AP's referencing here is gorgeously, impeccably played, and Garcia channels God's Own Tone on the entire album (and, if you must insist on "technical skill," acquits himself quite w
@ZupTepi The tragedy is that Andy has no idea how fantastic an artist he is and the impact that he has had on so many people. To me he is just as important to English music as Pink Floyd and Kate Bush. Humility is an underrated quality............we should all try to be a bit more like Andy...!!
best guitar lesson i've ever had. absolutely friggin love you andy! explains so much about your sound. time to expand on my chord shapes some more. thanks pal.
I have always rated Andy as a guitarist from the first time I heard XTC ( on a demo/rough mix of stuff fro m the White Music album). A sadly underestimated talent,

I knew Dave Gregory was awesome on the guitar, didn't realise Andy Partridge was quite this good. Figures I guess.

I can think of many things I'D Like to do with Andy Partridge and a guitar lesson is just one of them.

Great guitarist, undeniably. Colin Moulding is an amazing bass player, too. XTC come back!!

It's people like Partridge that help keep my interest in music.
As much as I respect the blues, it gets damn boring being stuck in the blues scale and playing the same old way.
Monotony is the mind killer.
