its the same song with a more immediacy...this was one of the first songs I ever learned how to play on guitar...so I have very much of an attachment to it....that said I can live with this version but 2 things use the dam mandolin melody that made it iconic or a variation of it and many more moments where you can "metal" this the crap up...

I like this cover as well as the original. Each has their own feel to it and both do a great job at singing this song.

I personally like this version a bit more than the original simply because the original is so slow.

And as for changing the tempo and the way it is sung, obviously the lead singer of Scary Kids Scaring Kids has a different voice than the singer of R.E.M. It typically happens in most cover songs. Take it or leave it, no one is forcing you to listening to it.
