He said "they were very good for clean vocals, but not so good for heavy screaming voice". I believe that was the reason. :) Take care! \m/

@06KingDave Well yes, I understand what do you mean and my purpose wasn't to be pedantic, but I think that growling and screaming are really differents kinds of vocals. They scream in Metalcore. Growling can be more calm like in some Omnium Gatherum songs or in Doom/Death Metal, and it's deeper, when screaming has all the time to be fast.

I actually have nothing against screaming, some songs can be very good, but I give a certain importance to the definitions. But I might be wrong.

If you compare Mikael's growls nowadays e.g. to Roundhouse tapes there is a big difference. I watched some interview where he told about using in-ear monitors and he has lost interest in growling and blahblah.. that's why his growls doesn't sound so good anymore especially the deep growls. It's not like Corey Taylor who sounds absolutely terrible nowadays because of the shitty technique and the surgeries. I think Mikael is trying to do the growls "good enough" live and focus more on the cleans

@proximity1620 I´m actually convinced that he has forgotten how to do the proper growling, that happens if you dont practice every week. I just had a band practice yesterday, and in the beginning i sounded like he does on this DVD, then i "learned" the proper way again.

@Benteiron yeah you do have a point... if you practice proper techniques of growling it doesn't take quite a toll on you, not compared to people who just scream their head off like corey taylor shit that guys had multiple throat surgeries due to his style of screams/growls. And if you look at someone like the singer for testament, in my opinion his growls have actually gotten better over the years. But notice how here mikael can't even hold his growls out the way he used to, nor the high notes.

@SumFallGrace I see what you mean. You can hear his clean voice leaking through the growl a bit. It has definitely started to change during the last 5 years or so. Its probably all the extensive touring they've been doing and now its finally taking its toll on him. Luckily his clean vocals aren't damaged a bit. Hopefully he'll get back the original intensity for the new album
