  • REPEAL the TAX & JAIL Mandate bill nobody ever wanted..

  • PATRIOT Howard Dean, MD, practiced medicine throughout his terms as VT Rep, 1982, & Lt. Gov (1986)~became Gov 1991~was elected to FIVE 2-yr terms 1991-03~was 2nd longest Gov of VT~served as Chair of Nat'l Govs 1994-95; & as Gov, pd off much of VT public debt~balanced budget 11 times~TWICE lowered Income Tax~~oversaw expanding Dr. Dinosaur to ensure health care for VT kids/expectant moms! He is a PATRIOT unlike the POTUS.

  • Kill the 3000 pg Illegal TAX & JAIL TrojanHorse Mandate Bill nobody wants..

    Kill the bill..

    Vote em out..

    nobody wants it..

  • Impeach OBAMA! Go to my channel, subscribe and find out why you should sign the petition. Please save Our country and stop the game playing all the lying!

  • Obama doesn't care about health care. It's just a scam to grab power and put us before the death panel..

  • Obviously,

    the "strategy" includes paying

    Senators

    up to $300,000,000.00

    for their vote.

    Ain't America great, or what?

  • Wake Up America. . . Think about all the reasons they said for needing to rush this health care through passage. Especially the need to save lives. They are lying, for it will not take affect for over three years. Obama and the other Democrats dont care about you or saving lives over the fact they want to enact the coverage after the next Presidential election.

Obama said the insurance companies are making large profits, but the insurance companies only made a 2.5% profit last year.

  • That figure is, net profit, considering they have no sort of manufacturing capacity to ever expand or can expect any real economic down turns... thats massive.

The fact is, less that 70% of the premiums paid to insurance companies are paid out to provide care.

  • The Democratic Party has moved to the far left, and we in the center and right are extremely dissatisfied with the "Change We Can Believe In" politicians and their obsession with making our Nation more like the Europe our forefathers had left behind.

Many of our elected officials are no longer thinking of themselves as being our representatives, but instead refer to themselves as leaders in the true form of tyrants.

  • You clearly have no idea what far left is.

  • The liberals among us are supporting far-left socialist radicals with their agendas based on implementing socialist political doctrines into laws that are non-constitutional. This is a real threat to everything we hold sacred in America, and they are gaining evermore control over our Democratic Party, our Nation, and the American people.

In other words, our Democratic Party is undermining and destroying our American democracy as founded in protecting individual liberty and freedom.

  • If you want to see why costs are so high, and how free markets can fix this - watch this video:

    watch?v=rJ8SkS0kOe8

  • just face it folks.

    it isnt gonna happen.

we would need to burn Washington to the ground before they gave a shit.

  • 4 ppl is all that stand in the way just 4!!

  • conservatives would rather people needlessly die than admit they're wrong.

add this to the pro war, pro capital punishment, pro lifer cause...

    yeah right, pro fucking hypocrites.

  • All western countries have universal health care. It's the way to go. Screw insurance companies. They will cut you short and not deliver anyway, on the truly costly stuff. Tune in to the rest of the world..not the fearmongers.

  • Exactly.

In fact it shows the economic incompetence of the US Right Wing--public Health Insurance is provably economically productive.

For profit Health insurance is a grand scam, and the for profit Health Insurers are pure parasites, selling vaporware and skimming trillions off the economy while buying the state.

  • America, it's time to question your democratic system. Why?

It's too complex when it comes to trying to do the right thing and too simple to do the wrong thing.

Bush, debt financed and bankrupted your country for a bullshit war without any problem at all, no meaningful discussion or investigation. (When the rest of the world looked on in disbelief)

Unlike a Health Bill that is dissected and then watered down and rattled and shaken so that even if passed, it could fail.

  • Excellent point, JoahnnyRock2000.

Marcuse in one place makes a similar point--how easy it is in the US to spend on a war, any war.

  • Americans do not deserve healtcare the white trash should just die. We in the elites hate you and want you to die younger and your babies should die younger too so we can have more money.

  • Joe F-ing Lieberman is going to join the fillibuster no matter what simply because he is REVELING in the love he is getting from the Repubs right now. Joe Lieberman is an attention-seeker. He'll go wherever he gets the most attention. I'm from Connecticut and I've seen this from him for as long as I can remember. He's a weasel.

  • Who in Connecticut votes this asshole in all the time?

  • Wait what the hell is this?? We only have three liberal senators?? Bullshit....Russ Feingold, Ted Kennedy's replacement, and Al Franken....off the top of my head!! We need this bill to pass!!

  • I could not agree more with cba...however i feel that these "polls" with a simple "do you want health care reform"...is far to short of a spectrum to take seriously...if it did...our good people would realize that its not a good idea to add profiteers to our health and life...

  • Health care will pass w/ the public option, cuz da only hope da american ppl have when dey start losing jobs, and there will be jobs lost because da whole world is going green and not even da money hungry oil companies can afford to hand out enuff money stop it, its da new world order, but dont fear it embrace it, let da new generation take over, and stop thinking bout yourself 4 a change

  • Guys, (Americans), calm down, I live in a country with completely socialised health care and my grandparents aren't put to death, nor are we fascist, marxist, communist, supressed, ...

  • im not even going to argue with this stupidity, all i wanted to say was that many (and probably most) of the small companies go bankrupt pretty damn fast, do you ever read statistics?

  • Stupidity? Everything I told you is true. How is that stupidity? You know what you need? A dose of common sense, you might find it useful in the future.

  • do you know what common sense is? why don't you define it for me.

damin it look at me, arguing with an easy target again.

  • So illegal aliens aren't in the senate health bill so they still get there medical for free on the tax payer?

  • How much are you willing to spend, leilalana394.

  • With the Senate, you've got less people to bribe than the House.

  • The thing that has always amazed me, anx1205--is how little these politicians sell out for.

    It is almost always chickenfeed.

  • Yes, in Canada in the early 90's our Prime Minister (Mulrooney) took only $300,000 cash to promise a billion dollar government deal....and then reniged on it. Ha.

  • Also, try to think of the number of politicians on the take. Probably most of them. Only a few, actually deliver or are able to deliver. All make promises when they see the cash. It's part of American politics. Cash is king.

  • Reneging on Corporatist bribes has something to be said for it.

In Chicago they call it "not staying bought".

The Pashtuns have the same concept--they be hired but not purchased.

Did Mulrooney do the right thing and give the money to the IRA?

  • In the US almost all are bought, Republiicans and most Democrats.

    It is the system.

There are only a few exceptions.

  • Corperate sellouts! wtf is with the ad?!?

  • do you know how obamas planning to silence opposition to his health care takeover? he has fema building "internment camps" to house conservatives, christians, true americans, and others who support freedom and democracy and refuse to hand our liberty over to fuhrer obama. the public option will increase prices for health care, decrease quality, allow the government to decide whether you live or die, and force you to have an abortion if obama wants it. the only thing il accept is the mandate

  • Stop lying and stop disseminating that NWO conspiracy theory bullshit, because that's all it is.

  • Great! I hope your pathetic conspiracy holds some truth. We need to intern some of ya dumb fucking retarded inbred conservatives. He won't even have to kill them. They will just inbreed themsleves to death. True Americans? What a fucking joke! So your Indian?? Fucking idiot.

  • @tehant1liberal

The only thing that would be acceptable in this day and age, is if your claim was actually true. Your kind of stupidity deserves incarceration and torture, followed by capitol punishment.

Anything less, is in itself, an unacceptable crime.

  • How brainwashed by fox do you have to be to say such things?

  • If there is no Public Option, then I hope it doesn't pass. This wouldn't even be an issue Reed would just nut up and go to Reconciliation.

  • Deep six the botch and start over with Kucinich's non-profit Health Insusrance.

Or have Obama nationalize the for profit Health Insurers and reorganize the whole system as universal and non-profit.

Meanwhile send the for profit Healh Insurance executives to a gulag in Alaska.

  • This is a national economic emergency.

  • Yes, but it will only get worse if the bill is passed without a Public Option. There will still be the mandate coupled with weaksauce private insurance regulation, which will just skyrocket consumer costs into oblivion. The insurance corporations will become even more powerful than they already are, and have more influence in congress. It will just accelerate the snowball effect that is already taking place because of private insurance costs. The bill will do more harm than good w/o a P.O.

  • D'accord. It is a complete botch. The for profit Health insurers bought off both sides in this little dog and pony show.

The scenarios is to give the for profits what they want while the Corporatist Democrats try to sell it as reform.

Time for the Progressives to call their bluff.

  • The Progressives even with just a hand full of votes can scuttle this whole dog and pony show.

That is a lot of power over both the Republicans and the Corporatist Democrats.

Kucinich, Grayson, Waters, et all--go to Obama and say--look we are going to join the Republicans and scuttle this shit unless you get the Corporatist Democrats in line and pass a real non-profit Health Insurance.

    Seize the time.

  • Obama cannot win reelection without the Progressives.

Nor can the Demcraats keep their majorities in Congress.

Time to startt using their power.

    Better sooner than later.

    This Bush Lite is bullshit.

  • health insurance industry profit margin 2.2%ranked 35 of all US industries, forbes mag oct 2009.the progressive experiment is over.the people are paying attention now.gallup oct 2009 america conservative 40% independent 38% liberal 20%Q .why does insuring 12 million people require a 2000 bill?A. it doesn't

  • Please,exweez, cut your bullshit.

That's mostly an accounting trick, as you well know,

One third of all for profit Health Insurance premiums go for advertising and executive salaries.

That's more than $700 billion a year right there.

So go fuck yourself--there's a bunk in the Alaska gulag being readied for you.

  • dam those facts are stubborn things, and the absolute enemy of people with nothing but a political agenda.gulag LOL bring it.university of michigan class of 83.registered democrat

  • No offense, but your grammar is not reminiscent of a degree, of any sort...

  • why is it that grammar and spelling are always the only arguments the weak minded are able to win?no offense......

  • @exweez

Well, when someone is claiming to have a degree, it's a little hard to believe when they can't even manage simple capitalization, punctuation, and spelling....

  • always an emergency with you communists.the only way you can sneak liberty grabbing tyranny past the people.i.e saturday votes, midnight votes,2 day votes on a 1300 page legiislation.the emergencies will end in november 2010.i can't wait

  • No point in arguing with your type. exweez.

Please raise your armed rebellion as soon as possible.

It is as good an excuse as any to exterminate you and the rest of the Right.

You are a danger to the species, to the world, to other Americans, and to yourselves.

Fire the first shot. Please. Pretty please.

  • you hate my type a freedom loving college educated veteran,so exactly which one of those types do your thought police wish to put in a gulag in alaska?

  • LMAO! I love you Mopsius.

  • i wish he would also.then there would be no reed in 2011.this monstrosity can't pass juditial muster, and can be repealed.

  • Maybe Obama can arrange a false flag and get the job done anyway.

As long as the Right Wing is exterminated it is progress.

  • lol there is an extermination comming.just not the one you hope for

  • finnished now.lol thought so

  • closecombattraining(dot)com

  • bin neu hier wer will mit mir chattn und so bin in langweile gefangen

  • no. no damn healthcare

  • Obama campaigned on lowering healthcare cost so every American could afford it. Ask your representitive will this bill lower healthcare cost? Lower prices and premiums? The Answer is NO! These plans will raise cost and private premiums. The CBO said the Gov. option premiums will be at best 10% below private. The cost est is a con because the plans and spending don't start till 2014. So this est. is actually 6 years not 10. If you did the est from 2014 to 2024 cost would be more then double.

  • don't let the people see it.have the votes on saturday nights, and buy off any senator who opposes it.maybe that way the dems can steal the liberty of the people, but none of that will work in the courts.

  • Yeah the government will save you, great idea!

  • Howard Dean needs to go crawl back into his hole and stay there. No one told him he could come out.

  • so whos the self righteous one here? You are Howard Dean?

  • You know what... Howard Dean is right. Something this large and part of our economy shouldn't be. It should be all done by profit. That way we will still receive the same great medical innovation here in the USA. I actually strongly believe the whole economy should be non-profit. It makes more sense that way. It will in due time... create more jobs, create incentive for education, and will produce a better society. All conservatives are idiots.

  • non-profit*

  • If there is no profit incentive why would anyone want to open a business? and deal with operations, quarterlys, production, quality, marketing, corporate tax and taking care of many families?

A non profit economy is communisim. Move to cuba.

  • It just piss me off that we have the money to go 2 wars but can't spend it on US soil. I'm talking about life or death situations, like health care

  • We dont have the money for wars or healthcare, we dont have any money at all we are BROKE

  • Average salary of health insurance CEO's...13million a year. That does not include bonuses and stock options.

By all means...call a mother who lost her child because of a lack of insurace or insurance refused to cover and explain to her how that seems right.

    WWJD? Healthcare for all

  • Mighty Hodd I hope Sanders and Burris will stay strong & stand their ground.

  • if we end up being forced to pay for insurance, first thing 2012 when I'm 18 I will move to Europe

  • I'm moving to England if Palin ever gets elected.

  • I've already left. Canada is great. I've lived in the UK ... it's nice, but Canada is more home for me.

  • im going to canada

  • I find it hilarious that you're going to move to Europe if you're forced to buy insurance in the USA.

Do you have any idea how insurance works in most of Europe?

  • Lol, why would you move to Europe? I'm pretty sure all the European countries have national health care. You can't escape it. Um, but maybe you can move to Mexico, I don't think they have it.

  • I'm not American - what is this "reconciliation" they're refering to?

  • I think its where they only need 50% rather than 60% to pass the bill.

  • Actually 51%

  • Yes, I AM american and I don't know what the F*ck that means. I keep hearing it in the news, but no one has defined it. I'm too lazy to google it, I'll do it eventually.

  • Better to do nothing than pass this POS bill that will drive up costs and reward the insurance industry.

  • Howard Dean is still alive?

    Damn.

  • I can't wait to be forced to pay the corporations for shitty insurance. Fuck this government

  • xxxRightThePowerxxx

What are you talking about? Current system (insurance takeover) kills 45,000 Americans every fucking year just b/c they don't have access to healthcare. Furthermore, HC hijack premiums not 10% but 20, 30 or even 40% .

Why the hell are you defending insurance companies?

  • Shut up and maybe polly will get a cracker, idiot right-wing parroting troll. Go back to worshiping your lunatic quitter ice queen.

  • This bill is more taxes, fines, less personal freedom, big brother taking names, an assault on the 2nd amendment, Government take over of healthcare, First step toward socialism. Cenk said it himself the PO is the first step toward socialized medicine and we know it and don't want it.

  • Look how profoundly idiotic you are.

It doesn't matter how many times you continually parrot that tired old phrase, it doesn't make it true, and it doesn't make you any less dumb.

This bill is NOT government takeover, it's a bald-faced boon to insurance companies.

  • You can say nonsense as many times as you like, but as far as I(and most logical people) care, you could be saying Santa's plotting to launch a war with Canada.

  • Good, I'm glad they don't since it's not a government takeover of healthcare.

  • You have no idea wtf it is..You just march lock-step with your liberal overlords.

  • Stop repeating the right-wing propaganda like a stupid "Palinite" parrot. How is providing affordable access to health care a "government takeover of health care" ? A public option or even a single payer system would provide affordable access to people, government wouldn't control doctors, hospitals or other health providers. The only difference would be that the unethical drive for profit would be eliminated from health care and costs would be cut.

  • WHICH IS A BAD THING.

  • Because there is no way that private ins can survive if there is a public option

  • Because it's not about Health care. It's just an excuse to take our freedoms, it's a power grab. They are going to use medical records to take away your right to buy guns without evan having a trial. They can tell you how to live and what to eat and what to do. They are going to FORCE us to buy insurence and if the Public Option passes we will be forced into Government health care.Open you eyes, you are the one spreading propaganda...

  • yes, the doctors are coming to take your guns. you cant even focus on one issue at a time without getting confused, plus your screen name has many Xs in it. your opinion is an automatic fail.

  • one issue?my isurance policy is 20 pages.why is the senates 2000 pages?your opinion is a blank check

  • What does the healthcare system have to do with guns you moron?

    Damn that extra chromosome.

  • lol, wait a minute... that's sexist? funny and true. wondering... extra chromosome, extra rib... extra toppings and extra sauce too?

  • If you think it's a "government takeover of healthcare" when its really the government running a non profit business, then you have no idea what the bill is about.

  • First off, If the government says it's going to cost X amount then you can count on it costing 3 times that. If you think it's going to reduce the deficit, well you're a moron. Lets take a look at government run programs: Post Office=Broke, Social Secrurity=Broke, Medicare=Broke, America=Broke!!!!!! We have went from the worlds lender (1980) To the worlds borrower (trillions)!! Are you willing to let 1/6th of the economy become govn. run? 5 million unemployed? ARE YOU? Wake UP! Change my ass!

  • @Cosmonater

other than the fact that you've been spoonfed a big jar of shit, you said "Change my ass!" when you complained that thing are getting DIFFERENT, fucking retard.

  • My friend if you beleive anything the government says you're the one doing a 360 into retardation. Look at the bailouts guess that was necessary. Those banks and auto industries should have had to file 11 then 7 bankruptcy and then lquidate their assets. Smaller banks would have started to rise, some even merging to become stronger. Some mom and pops buisness might have taken over the atuo industry to become their own giant. You and I just witnessed the largest heist in history. By your GOVERN.

  • cosmonator - to say government programs are broke is a red herring. they aren't designed to make profits. they are designed to provide services for the tax payer. would you say the interstate budget is a failed business? we owe china billions not trillions, now the us is too big to fail for china, so that debt is secure and can be paid back with trade manipulation and a better economy. health care cost is all ready 18% of the gdp and will skyrocket even more without a strong public option.

  • Are you willing to fined for not purchasing health care that is "affordable." Are you willing to be fined for being 15 lbs over weight. And for your info it is trillions. We borrowed 785 billion in one pop. It was called the bailout money and guess who is our main lender for the wars? Trade manipulation? The chinese have a whopping 210 billion dollar trade advantage over us. Anytime a country consumes more than it produces you're going to have problems. How about fair trade not free trade.

  • cosmo, i don't disagree with the facts you present, except the penalty lol, for being 15 lbs overweight. lmao, that would end the federal deficit! are you fat?

the penalty for not buying insurance should be stripped, as with the anti-abortion bullshit, and the trigger, and everything else conservs are adding to make this a shitty bill.

looks like conservs have destroyed what could have been a great bill that would have lowered premiums and the federal budget.

    congratulations.

  • And I to agree with you that it does need reform, however, not a total take over. Heck no I'm not fat lmao. BUT I be damned if I want to help pay for sombody elses medical bills that eats at McDonalds 4 times a week is 375 lbs and smokes 2 packs a day. Chances are, were already helping them pay their house payment, light bill, food stamps etc. Myself I have to work for every last thing I have. I have a very shitty job Howerver Im insured, pay the bills & food on the table. no freebies here

  • Government programs aren't supposed to turn a profit, you know that right?

I'm going to defend the Post Office as a public service. What's the price of a stamp? What would it cost for purolator to ship a letter for you? Why is the private sector SO inefficient in sending letters, if they do everything better?

  • You are 100% right, government programs shouldn't be looking for a profit. But to assume that a government program won't try to get a profit is naive.

As soon as taxes are raised a couple percent to fund a war, you can assume that it won't go back down just because the war ended. I'm not saying that government does or doesn't need that extra money, its just that overall, the taxes are still raised and less money is in the hands of the people. We need a public option. Just keep an eye on it.

  • When government programs make money, the profit is easily spent by the government is other areas. Happens all the time in the U.S. and around the world. Check out Unemployment Insurance. Huge moneymaker.

  • The post office lost over 3 billion dollars this year, But that doesn't matter because they're not there to turn a profit. Guess they should have charged more for that stamp. Oh well.

  • Typical Right Wing moron--giving only part of the story, Cosmonater.

  • johnedwards1968--the privatizers have skimmed all the profitable activities off the PO, while demanding (1) that they continue to subsidize business with cheap mass mailings; (2) that they not be allowed to compete in the very activities that are most profitable to the privatizers.

  • This pattern is in fact repeated in the present US "Health Insurance" mess.

And that is why the US has Medicare--the for profit Health Insurers don't want that risk pool.

  • Cosmonater

Government run programs aren't designed to make a profit, so they should be broke. Health care reform is designed to reduce the amount we spend on health care. We are currently spend 2-3 times more than any other country and our health care is rated in the low 30's. Also, not everything run by govt sucks. U like the roads, highways, police, fire departments, universities, and military don't u?

  • Do I like roads? You mean the taxes we pay for gas that is supposed to finish projects that we have already begun, that are broke? When are you going to wake the fuck up lefty? We are borrowing this money and paying it back with interest!!! What do you guys not understand? The USA is broke you bunch of dipshits. In order to heal the wound we must bring our troops home, quit borrowing, no credit and live within our means. And fair trade not free trade! You obama bots need to go hug a tree. SAD

  • First, why do you assume my political affiliation? I don't consider myself an "obamabot" like you claim I am. What interest me is the fact that you would rather label me as a "lefty" instead of address the points I brought up. So, since you don't want to pay for roads, what else don't you want to pay for police, fire department, or the military? If your so concerned about the deficit then u should be for hcr b/c it will eliminate wasteful spending ie paying ceos 50 million a year.

  • Obama said the Constitution of the United States is deeply flawed, and has never complemented the founding fathers of our great Nation.

The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of Liberalism, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened. - Norman Thomas, former six-time U.S. Presidential candidate for the Socialist? Party of America.

  • One, when did he say this and in what context. Second, so what is your point exactly. Are you saying that they are slowly moving us toward a socialist country? That can't be it b/c that would work against their interests.

  • So its a requirement to complement long dead people? I hate that 'founding fathers' of the US of A were yeeehaaa great men.

No doubt they had some revolutionary ideas that are good and work. But pretending they were not flawed and putting them on a pedestal is a grave mistake and smacks of totalitarianism. Just Lenin worship in the CCCP.

  • Oh, bullshit. Obama is a constitutional law specialist and former president of the Harvard Law Review, you moron.

  • Thats the problem, America spends too much on HC. Due to 3 reasons:

    - Lots of unnecessary diagnostic scans. These are expensive.

    - Too many people have no poor or no cover and are left to the very expensive emergency room.

    - Because nobody wants to have a pre-existing condition people are reluctant to go to the doctors until the illness is mature and thus expensive (30 years of blood pressure pills is << cheaper than two bypasses)

  • My strategy to pass health -insurance- reform is to remind the Democrats that they won the damn election. Yout party is so pathetic and under the same influence of the Republicans. Why bother pretending that your weak party is any less controlled by Corporate dollars.

  • Dems, you have three things to do here:

    1. Drop the mandate on private insurance

    2. Transform the Public Option and all other "insurance refor" into Single Payer

    3. Reconciliation on the bill with the above provisions

    Now, grow some balls, please.

  • its time to go to war!!! no more bitchin out and half assin a bill, its time for some real progression!

  • politics wise strickly - This was a good move for Burris,

  • We need a strong free choice option like Wydens amendment where we can all choose to get off of Blue Cross rip-off plans and take the public option if we choose. These bills only let the uninsured get the public option which is unfair! I want to dump Blue Cross and should be able to take the medicare plan if I choose!

Reid better come out with a free choice or single payer system or it won't work at all and the Blue Cross wins anyways.

We are sick of Blue Cross rip-off plans!

    We demand choice

  • The bill is a botch and will be an economic disaster.

The for profit Health Insurers financed both sides of this dog and pony show.

Deep six it and start all over-- a universal non-profit National Health Insurance with a Federal non-profit corporation as the insurer.

It would could perhaps $200 per person per annum.

All other government insurance would be unnecessary, including Veterans' and government employees.

90 percent of the people and small and middle-sized business are for it.

  • "problems like this can only be solved by politicians who actually understand the issues and are willing to do the obvious. if you want to lower costs, you have to break monopolies and come up with new plans..." THAT is a perfect summation. NONE of the republicans understand the issues, nor have any come up with new plans. The dems need to be WILLING TO DO WHAT IT TAKES. Period.

  • Oh Republicans understand the issues all right, as do the Democrats who were bought off by the for profit Health Insurers.

Kucincich has the only rational plan.

If not that, nationalize the whole Health Insurance "industry".

They are parasites who sell vaporware and add nothing to the economy.

This is a national economic emergency.

  • I think you're giving Republicans way too much credit. They do not understand the issues- what they understand is 1) Anything Obama is for, we are against. 2) We will not make as much money if this bill passes. That's about it. Ask one of them about any particular of the bill and watch them hem and haw and fuddle around trying to explain what it means.

  • If the lobbies paid them to love Obama the whole fucking Party would show up at the White House in blackface to sing Camptown Races for him on Xmas.

They are being paid to oppose national health care, as the Democrats are being paid to institute what the for profit Health Insurers want.

One third of all for profit Health Insurance premiums go for advertising and executive salaries.

    That's $700 billion a year right there.

A pretty penny to lobby with.

  • Apparently you are naive enough to think that this whole dog and pony show is not a finely crafted piece of theater, julynyc7.

  • Obama is terrible president, so far. Where is his leadership especially in health care reform? I wish Ms. Hillary Clintion was our president.

  • Saying it doesn't make it so.

To answer your question, the congress never consider single payer system in the first place in fact they started with public option.

  • I agree, the Republicans would use reconciliation in a second. God the Democrats are way to nice sometimes

  • The Democrats in congress are all spinless jellyfish & cowards.only a few have the guts to standoff against fmr.Republicans or as I now refer to them Puritans(Nationalist Puritan Party"N.P.P") with the rat as mascot or leeches

  • whose fking idea was it to put the mandate in the first place???

  • You need a mandate to eliminate exclusions for pre-existing conditions. If you don't have a mandate people will be able to simply wait until they get sick to purchase insurance. Needless to say no insurance corporation could survive in such a system without massive government funding or insane premium increases.

  • fair point... but a mandate without a public option doesn't seem like a good idea to me... i don't want to be left at the mercy of the insurance agency...and why isn't it open to everyone and why doesn't it have medicare rates??? and why 2014, why not sooner maybe 2011 or 2012 latest...

  • Exactly. If there is no public option this becomes a giveaway to the private insurance industry and a joke.

  • true.. but the current public option doesn't go far enough... how did we start on single payer and negotiate down to this???

  • we didn't start on single payer and that is the problem. had we started with that and pushed and pushed and pushed for that, the public option would have been the compromise. instead we pushed and pushed for the public option and there is no compromise. (i say "we", but i should say "they" since this is really not about the public, but about the selfish politicians.)

  • That is most definitely the problem. The Democrats should have pushed for a single payer system with a strong public option which anyone or any company could sign up for as the compromise. Obviously the loser republicans would've said NO to both and at that point the Democrats should have told them "screw you" and implemented a single payer bill and pushed it through without them.

  • Unbelievalbe--we agree, sxevious.

  • With the exception of a few Progressives the main thing on most of the Democrats' mind is how to pass what the for profit Health Insurers want while making it look like serious reform.

In the process they are committing political suicide.

Anything even close to the House Bill will be an economic disaster.

And the Democrats will be blamed for it, rightly.

  • Both sides should be blamed - the mostly moderate Democrats (which definitely includes Obama) for being too weak to fight the republicans and more importantly big health, the republicans for defining themselves as saying NO to whatever the Democrats say and simply not caring about anyone except the big corporations.

  • Also why did Obama quickly sell out to big pharma ? Instead he should have stuck it to them by eliminating patents on medicines which would open up competition by allowing any drug company to produce medicines.

Health care should NOT be a for-profit business. Access to health care should be a right, not a privilege.

  • Encore, nous sommes d'accord, sxevious.

  • this is true. but why are they now not able to say "screw you" and push (at least) the public option through without the republicans?

  • They're too scared, scared of the republican attacks and scared of the greedy and evil corporate lobbyists. As long as corporations are allowed to lobby for their own greedy interests and buy off politicians not much will change.

  • lol... yea that is soo true... but u know what i think is the biggest problem in washington??? all these lobbyists and campaign "donations"... it seems everytime we try to do reform whether it is financial, health care, environmental, defense spending... we seem to hit a road block with the lobbyists from that industry, someone got to change that, b/c the current system seems rigged to me, rigged so that they win every time.. and we dont get anything done... money and politics shouldn't mix...

  • I've taken a fancy to the concept of a gulag in Alaska lately--especially for the Right Wing and the lobbyists.

  • A gulag? You're joking right? That's a horrible idea, what kind of a person would suggest something like that? They deserve something worse than that!

  • You don't like gulags, grenadier?

    Alaska has the ideal climate.

Sincet he Right Wing is calling Obama Stalin, why not give them a small taste of something really Stalinesque.

After all, Obama as president has all those vast powers Bush concentrated in the office.

Use it or lose they say. How is your footcloth and felt boot inventory?

  • Oh I agree about the climate, I'm just thinking of something more harsh than a gulag.

  • Imagine the literature one might get out of it--"One Day in the Life of Rush Limbaughovich".

Hi ho hi ho--it's off to work he goes...

  • And recall the Right is also calling Obama weak--a touch of Stalin would work wonders for his image, don't you think?

What does Obama look like in a mustache?

  • I'm getting sick of this, it's ridiculous how hard it is to get the public option through. We're the LAST industrialized nation to have universal health care which says to me in a sense, we are the DUMBEST industrialized nation.

Guarantee 50 years from now when America has become demosticated to a civil society, we'll look back and call those who voted against health care, global warming issues and all else the neanderthals who walked the earth in the 21st century.

  • Howard Dean is a genius. I still can't believe he lost to Bush, of all people.

Imagine what the country would be like now had he won instead.

  • When did Dean run against Bush? It was Gore in 2000 and Kerry in 2004...

  • He ran the same time Kerry ran.

Just like McCain ran for president the same time Bush did.

    Both happened in 04... remember?

There are always multiple candidates running for the same positions, and oftentimes - all the time - you will have candidates that are running for the same party.

  • Right, but just as McCain lost to Bush in the 2000 Republican primaries and didn't end up running against Gore in the general election, Dean ran against and lost to Kerry in the Democratic primaries. He was not on the ticket in 2004 and did not run against Bush in the general election .
