Because the science used back then to claim that it was dangerous was recently re-examined and found to be wrong. Yes, absinthe contains thujone. Guess what? Apples contain cyanide. Some compounds are harmful in large amounts, but can be good for you in small amounts. A good scientist needs to know the difference before giving out advice.

Additionally, the brain is almost entirely formed of cholesterol molecules, toxins which are esterized and lipidized can pass the blood brain barrier and then damage the brain. But alll the same, absinthe poisoning is pretty rare.

You'd die of alcohol poisoning way before you could hope to "OD" on thujone in authentic absinthe.

Uh...this displays a fundamental misunderstanding of how Absynthe is made, as well as legal standards of making alcoholic beverages. All alcohol, btw, is poisonous--in sufficient amounts. So is salt, for that matter. Or aspirin. I drink absynthe (every now & then, not being a heavy drinker) because I like the taste & the specific buzz, unlike simple drunkenness. Between absynthe and a martini, those are the only real differences.

If you have something 160 proof, it's Grain Neutral Spirits. You've distilled out everything (or almost everything) except the alcohol. Everything higher than 160 proof is pretty much all the same.
