A lot of people say that they think Archie Hicox was the worst character in this movie. I respectfully disagree. He may not have had a lot of scenes that revealed his attitude, other than his last few words, but that was how he was supposed to be played. He was a rich, well respected man and you aren't expected to display a lot of emotion when you're in that line of business. It was a pretty thankless role without a lot of juice, but I really thought that Fassbender portrayed it well.

The shots to the groin make his aim virtually useless, all he's doing is gunning wildly, effectively making him as accurate as any of the drunken soldiers in the background would be, only bleeding from severe wounds at the same time.

Taking the gun up to his head would take away any kind of element of surprise they would have over the soldiers in the background, too.

The Nazi didnt fire first because he was obviously intimidated by being outnumbered in his immediate vicinity regarding those who were aware of what was transpiring. It took the other nazis a couple seconds to react. Those seconds could have been spent getting shot dead if the Americans would have played their cards right.
