  • It's called Able Baker, it should be properly labelled because I bet an awful lot of people treasure it.

  • i have a cassette of his called someday dated 1976 zctra39 given to me by a aunt in the early 80s, some good songs, need to put on digital before it stops playing

  • Thanks brenwoo39, but I'm certain i have never said women cannot write songs! Of course they can. I do argue that they predominantly write a certain type of song.

  • I can't believe Harvey was in Cambridge and I didn't know. I used to sing and sang Soldier unnacompanied at Norwich festival. The song brings the house down. I think that Harvey wasn't recognised as hte best because his songs are too truthful. He once said women can't write songs - had to take issue with that but fantastic to see him still in action.

  • The original, with the Merlin, on vinyl, still haunting. me more than 30 years after hearing Wakky Wyton play it on BFS radio

  • Hi Skipy, I also heard of Harvey Andrews initially whilst we were posted to RAF Luqa around 75/76 . Someone who worked in the Comcen there used to sing at the Folk Club and we went along and I remember him singing "Hey Sandy" - Fabulous. Have since seen Harvey at RAF Gutersloh.

  • However seeing Harvey for the first time back in 1971 took me to folk music, resulting in me running clubs at RAF camps, meeting my wife at Cambridge back in 1984, forming Stanford in the Vale Folk festival in 1986 & White Horse Folk Festival in 1997 - still running.

On reflection you have caused me a hell of a lot of hard work!

  • First heard this in the "Astra" at RAF Luqa in 1975 or 76, he did this for the Royal Air Force, Soldier for the Army & Rotherdam for the RN. what a night, what a performer, what a writer & still going strong. Here ls to you Harvey, thanks for all the enjoyment & direction that you have given to my life!

That may seem a little "strong"!

  • Fantastic..your so good..you should have been up there...

  • Great song, I can't believe 1 person actually disliked it! Anyway, thank's for posting this, if someone could give me a name I would be very appreciative, thanks again.

  • What an incredible singer/songwriter! Such a powerful message. Harvey's talent is just so great. I wish he would do a tour in California one day..

  • Harv the Marv !!!

  • @priorz1 : The Name of this Song is "Able Baker"! And it´s only on his Vinyl-Album "Margarita" released in 1980 on Beeswing Records ( LBEE 001 )

  • He IS The man, the best singer / song writer this country has EVER produced & it will be a very, very long time before there is a contender.

  • Only 60 pilots remain today from the 2958 pilots who fought in the battle of britain.

  • Able Baker - wonderful, yes truly wondefrul song. This version is no better/worse than the album version - each utterly fantastic. A joy to hear either.

  • @MACHAWK123 Ah, but the abum version has a sound sample of a Merlin engine.

  • could someone upload requiem off friends of mine please!

  • his best work is "Writer of songs"

  • God yet another Harvey Andrews Fan, yes it was a mighty album I must agree

  • Only hope you get as much enjoyment from him as he's given me all these years

  • Sorry skipy936 : Harvey is not only the best singer songwriter from England - He´s the best Musican all in the World.

    I don´t know anybody that he´s better than Harvey - He´s the No. 1 - YES!!!

  • Have to agree with you Skipy maybe its as well that he never had a big hit as his standard has maintined and improved over 30 years .

And I say that as an Irishman who wasnever lucky enough to have seen him live because he never played Dublin.

  • Best singer song writer this country has ever had

  • @skipy936 My mother went to school with him, in Birmingham.

  • love this man & his music. had alot of his songs on vinyl, must try to get it on cd.

  • First heard this song in Malta back in 1976!

Kalafrana banana! That will only mean anything to anyone who was there that night!

Harvey will remember. (trust me, nothing rude!)

  • Ive seen him twice. A real nice bloke and great singer/songwriter.

    Margerita still chokes me up

  • Fantastic song. I saw Harvey Andrews at the Regal Arts Centre in Worksop when I was about 13 years old. Nine years later my mission for the next few months is to learn this piece on guitar.

  • After all these years Harvey has lost none of his magic. Thanks for posting this video (and the other one). Has anyone else got a video they can share with us?

  • One of the forgoten heros.

Been giving me pleasure for 4 decades

    Thank you for showing it

  • A true trubador!!!! Harvey is an Ace!!!

  • One of the most moving songs i have heard for a long time.God bless the brave men of the R A F 1939-1945

  • He was the reason that got into folk music when I stumbled on him back in the early 70s. I have run folk festivals, clubs & a charity that raises it's funds by the folk world ever since!

  • I own all of your CD's and your book and keep coming back to hear your song and watch you play often. Harvey...this is such a beautiful song and your performance is excellent as always. Keep on keeping on my friend and dont get too cozy in that 'house on the hill' of yours yet we need more of your magical music...a true star of folk.

    Thank you for your songs.

  • If you want info about any of his songs, then just go striaght to his website & ask him!

He is very human, a superstar to say the least, but he cares about people & will answer your questions.

  • Has anyone got a copy of Haveys PG on cd,

thanks(know its a old but great one)

  • Harvey Andrews truely has one of the most beautiful natural voices out there. The first song I ever heard of his as a young child was Songs that Harry wrote. Funnily enough 10 years must have past without me hearing that song but it still being in my head until one day I decided to set out to find it (I didn't know who sung it at the time) and rediscovered Harvey. Going to see him in November, looking forward to it :)

  • Could someone tell me the name off this track, I have a few albums of Harvey Andrews but I don't know this track

  • The song is called "Able Baker", published in 1980 on LP "Margarita"!

It´s one of the greatest songs ever written by him!

Try to get the version on LP!

  • Thanks,Your right about it being a good song.

I have the cd of "Margarita" but that song has been missed off.

  • This bloke is just awesome! Go see him if you get the chance!

  • Harvey Andrews is wonderful, his music goes right through you and becomes part of who you are. The first song I ever heard was Autumn Song when I was a little girl in the early 90's. I have given CDs to all my friends and they love him too!

  • Autumn Song is superb from the excellent album Fantasies From A Corner Seat - I've got a vinyl copy signed by Harv. I was lucky enough to see Graham Cooper live as well in the early 80s at Wolverhampton.

  • Harvey Andrews pretty hard to get here in aus but well worth the effort such talant.

  • Ok well I'm pretty new to Harvey Andrews but recently while going through a load of old records that blongd to my father I stumbled across one in nothing but a paper sleave and the song writers name scribbled across it.

There is a song on the record that seems to be about a man who suffers from Altzimers and his wife who looks after him.

If anyone could tell me the name of this song and the name of the album I would be so very grateful. I just what to honour my father as best I can.

  • Hi,

The song you're talking about is called 'She saw him smile' and its on the album 'The Margarita Collection'. A wonderful song.

  • Cataclysm42...the name of the song you refer to is called 'she saw him smile'. An incredible profound and very moving song indeed especially to those who have seen Alzhiemers. Go to his website and buy his CD's. I never stop playing them!

  • I first saw Harvey in 1978 at Worfield Village Hall near Bridgnorth and on many other occasions throughout the 80s and 90s. Absolutely brilliant live. Writer of Songs album recommended.

  • I saw Harvey in Gutersloh Germany in 1989/1990 and he was brilliant. I have loved him since I first heard "Hey Sandy" in 1974 (ish) and bought the album, particularly for the record "Soldier"

  • One of the finest songwriters I have ever heard. Such a pleasure to see video of him performing and singing so beautifully. What a fabulous song.

  • Cool Video, by the way whats the song? I don't think i've got it.

  • How wonderful to see some quality footage of Harvey as he is today. This guy is indeed the best singer/songwriter that I know and a really nice guy too. His songs are evergreen in the world of folk and popular music. Thanks for sharing!

  • Harvey is definately one of the best singer / songwriters of his generation.

  • was brought up listening to harvey andrews. nice video to watch. thanks
