I do see the hyperfelxion in the warm-up but there are only moments. There are reasons why riders ride with a tad bit of hyperflexion and then ask the horse to come more round and back correctly on the bit leading to a nice collection. I think Steffen knows this horse alot more than we do. So a little bit of hyperflexion is okay but it would be differnt if we saw that all the time.
I think this is a great video I dont see much hyperflexion(There is a great article in dressage today explaining hyperflexion) I also think Steffen had great timing in his passage halfpass
I was in HK and saw them execute the Kur for real in the Olympic Games. It was even better than this one and really the one performance that gave me the goose pimples. We shall see them again in London...
The extreme hyperflexion of the horses neck is extremely painful to a horse, why doesn't everyone, or more at least, realize this? Such beautiful animals, why do we not let them move natuarally and beautifully, anything that causes that much pain and damage to a horse is NOT BEAUTIFUL,,,,
even if there was a sane reason to think you love horses more than this rider you should know that if something hurts a horse the horse worries and if you hurt a horse you lose their trust and a dressage team without trust doesn't win
Going from an extended gait to a movement requiring a lot of collection is a common move in freestyles to increase the 'difficulty' factor of the freestyle. Most top rider freestyles include a passage half pass. Another common manouver is piaffe pirouette. Some that used to be seen as raising difficulty (such as changes on a circle) have become common and no longer are regarded as increasing the difficulty.
beautifully executed. Anyone who thinks a dressage freestyle is easy should try and ride a horse to the beat and make it appear that they are dancing!
if i was teaching this horse i would give him a A++!!!

Wow, i'm amazed that he got that quality passage from a halt like 2 feet outside of the arena haha. Great entrance. Also love his tempi change music!

What music did he use, do you know?
HunterJumper860 2 years ago
this music is better than most freestyles and of course we all love Stephen and Ravel

Ravel is so long and lanky i love it. He looks so supple and relaxed to me. He reminds me of this horse i rode who was like that.

the reason you dont see it is because it is used in warmup. not during the test.
