Last Ninja was the game that got me to buy a 64, but LN2 is still my fave 64 game, all three versions look better than their converted counterparts and all three are some of the best music ever written on the sid chip.
Good review. I have never played the origonal last ninja only the remix edition in 91. Will have to grab an origonal copy for amiga or dos i think. Look forward to more arcade updates and more reviews.
Brilliant review! Funny that although the Amiga versions looked better, the Commodore 64 versions of all the Last Ninja games were in my opinion the best versions on any platform.
By far the best review you have ever done.. Well worth the wait. I have watched it a number oftimes and have to say its a classic! Love the bloopers at the end. Well done Joel.
Really enjoyed your overview on this classic. I think when i had the original Amstrad version back in the day, it came in a double cassette boxset with Shuriken & Ninja Mask. I'm not 100% on this but just have vague memories prancing around like a wannabe ninja, hehe!!! Great stuff man! :)
Excellent video! I was born in '74 and started gaming perhaps in '79 or '80 :) Had a Hanimex Pong System, CBS Colecovision, Atari 2600, C64, Amiga 500 and 1200, then PC but stopped gaming in about '05 :( Although I still use my Amiga ;)
@TheLastGamertube Sorry for the late response :( Yes, those old systems definitely are classics and yes I am glad you agree that there is nothing wrong with still using an Amiga :) Again, the video you have produced here is brilliant :)
Excellent look at a sure classic! I fondly remember playing this on my c64, even though I never was very good at it. Didn't get far into the game. Always was impressed by it though, really one of those games I wish I knew how to play better back in the day! Haven't tried it in years now... might need to dust it off sometime soon to give it another go :).
Dude! I also started gaming in the 70s. My first console was a pong machine ;-) Although a lot of my gaming in the 80s and early 90s was pretty much on computers. I had a VIC-20, Amiga 500, Amiga 3000, and lots of PCs I put together my self :-) Now I am pretty much back to consoles.
This game looks pretty sweet; I've seen it a few times in my retro mags, but never saw much of it outside of that.
My personal favourite game (based on nostalgia) is Gargoyle's Quest on the Game Boy, which was my Xmas present some time in the early 90s when I was 5 or 6 .
GB + Gargoyle's Quest + Mario Land + Being a little kid = Best Xmas EVER! :)
ok now the next game i know xD and i like how you added you as a ninja between certain parts slashing at the screen, it added a good touch to the review
Really enjoyed your overview Joel of such a great game and look forward to the Outrun one. Im 40 and have been gaming all my life since the 70s, so there is still a few others of us out there. It is rare however to meet someone else like yourself who has also been gaming since the 70s and still does so alot. All the people I know have gone on to raise familys and now only game on occassions if at all. Tried to add you on XBL ages ago, but your friends list is full, oh well lol
You would thought a ninja would be on stealth mode all the time, but nah, there he is casually walking on the streets and parks wearing his black costume and a sword on his back with no issues at all. Attention whore maybe? Nah he is THE LAST NINJA, he can do whatever he wants :)
I used to play this game on the C64 but i always found the combat to be really difficult (i think i was about 10 at the time) I remember the graphical style stood out as being very different and like nothing that i had seen before.Hearing you talk about the game now makes me realise that i missed out on something special. The outakes made me laugh,im always making similar mistakes when i make videos :)
i played this game as a child. But i cud never figure out what to do. giving that i am from Denmark, and my English at 10 years old was not weary developed.
