That's not a bicycle -- no pedals -- agreed. It's not all that fast either. A human-powered (no electric motor) recumbent bicycle can go 82 mph. Google for "Battle Mountain speed trials".

there are faster electric bikes, but remember guys, you have to be in it,to set a record. Most can't aford a trip to Bonny or flat rock.I saw a kid with a converted cannondale,67mph
I bet they call it an electric bicycle because they hate to admit they made a slow electric motorcycle. It very clearly wouldn't be thought of as an electric bicycle anywhere in the world that I know of, plus it seems to lack even a token ability to be driven by muscular energy, watch how the dude kicks the ground to get it moving. Lame
Yeah , i think the fact that there are no pedals makes it a scooter or 'bike' rather than a bicycle. But the reason for the push-off may be because the Bike it set up for low torque and hi speeds.
What definition of electric bicycle are they using? I don't see any pedals? I think the claims are a little big since there are already existing electric bicycles that go much faster than this that existed long before this one. But it's still fun to watch the technology in action.
What the hell? That's not that fast for an electric bike. I could set up something way faster with two Crystalytes. Was there some sort of a wattage limit?
All you haters need to look at the date this was done...Technology moves fast and the batteries then were crap compared to now!

What's with all the protective gear? 100 klicks doesn't warrant the OTT leathers!

It can be beat with a Crystalyte 5302, 100v of lifepo4s and a Wal*Mart bike.
