  • My parents have a vacuum that looks just like that one!

  • My Auntie has one of these, and she used to use it without the power assist, how she did it I have no idea, I used it and could barley move it without power assist!

  • Are Kirby vacuums good?

  • @VacDudes

    No they suck.

  • @VacDudes They're the best.

  • @vintagehoover Did you buy this kirby in the US? The reason I ask is because you mentioned $ not £.

  • What a piece of overpriced vacuum cleaner.

  • That G5 sounds like it just came out of the box

  • That Kirby sounds like it just got taken out of the box

  • My dad bought one for over 2300$ ,back in the 90's. This shit is still sucking like brand new!Damn :-)

  • Nice thay look just like the ultimate g but different color

  • I would like to know how this video was reccomended to me by YT...very strange, as I have three vacuums, one a Kirby.

Is this guy a vacuum hobbyist? I am slightly perplexed by this...am I missing out on a nation of semi-neurotic, combed carpet freaks like me?!

How do I know if my old machine is worth anything? I've always been satisfied having it as a "basement" vac, with the newer, funny accent machine being upstairs. The shop-vac is, in the shop.

Do I need help and not know it?

  • @Stifsim6 there are many of us out there in the world who collect and/or are enthusiastic about many appliances, not just vacuums. It's not talked about much, but it is quite a common hobby

  • You have cute toes! And I like your jeans by the way! Nice machine too

  • it acually doesnt look that bad in the ORFUL coulur pink/purpul!

  • Got my Kirby G5 for $20 off of Craigslist. The seller "never used it". I went to their house and confirmed that they never used it, then handed over $20. It was filthy and smelly, but after a cleaning and the bag's trip to the washer, it's as good as new.

  • I think so, because they're made to last a lifetime and they are very versatile, and apparently have a great resale value because I just took my Heritage II in to our local KIRBY dealer for it's annual tune up, and ended up walking out with a Diamond Edition and only having to pay very little after he gave me $900 for my old Heritage II

  • i just purchased a G5 on ebay. will it clean better than the G3 i used to have a G3 and it did ok. also it seems the tech drive on the G5 is louder than the G3

  • $2000 for a kirby! omg im not sure any vac is worth that much money, well im sure a fully restored 800 would cost that i was just wondering because it looked like it really grabbed the carpet

  • i got my kirby G5 off ebay for 119.00

  • yes i know my comments show up everywhere lol, how would you rate this kirby to your old 33 model 800

  • well i know my G5 cleans better than my old G3 a while back and my grandmothers G6

  • greyhounds are awesome

    so is the Kirby

  • I love the color scheme on the G5, it makes my G3 look so plain :-)

Does the Diamond have noticeably more power than the G5 did?

  • The Diamond does have a little more power, but what is most noticeable on the Diamond is the brush-roll; it's much stiffer, and beats the carpet much more efficiently than the older design. However, it doesn't bring the pile up quite as nicely either, so I couldn't say which design is actually the best.

  • You can put that stiffer brush roll on any of the G series. You have to pull the plastic ends off the brush roll and swap them. Then, put the brush roll on. The magnent that makes the LED light go on it on the opposite end so that will not light up, but it cleans a whole lot better. That's how I have my G3. You get a sentria for a G3 price! I use the white HEPA bags and it has a ton of suction!

  • All Kirbys from the Generation series makes that noise, It because the Tech-Dive transmission gears. In my current videos I'm not using the Tech-Dive because the camera would sometimes focus on the sound of the gears instead of the motor but in the future videos I will be using it, because the carpet we now have makes it harder to push without it.

  • I have a G4 with Tech Drive and it too makes the same noise, as does my uncles G5 that he uses commercially, for pre-vacuuming carpets in his carpet cleaning business. We used to have a Legend II, and I dont know how I ever used it compared to a Tech Drive Kirby!

I have been a vacuum cleaner buff myself since I was younger. Ours is a bit of a hybrid, its a G4 unit and head and bag, with G7 (i think) coupler between the bag and unit, G3 handle assembly and a non-Kirby power cord!

  • Don't like that sound, it may be normal for the machine but its not good. Sounds to me more like a roller brush noise as it varies w the movement but it could be the transmission of sorts. Still I'd rather not have the stutter with every push

  • It IS the transmission - the brush-roll has nothing to do with it. The brush-roll was brand new, and silent. The Tech-Drive still made that noise when the whole front section was removed and the hose fitted.

I don't even have this machine any more, so I'm not worried!

  • Good to know. I never had a vac w a tranny. Well, that doesn't say much for the tech drive tranny! That nosie would drive my bird crazy. I never had a Kirby yet so I am trying to research & sound does matter to me as well as a real good groomer as my carpets belong to the landlord & they are crap & need all the fluffing they can get...

  • I bought my mom a G4 and the tranny was crazy. I put a brand new one in and it is virtually silent when you push it back and forth, as far as the tranny goes.

  • Finde ich gut die Videos

  • Thanks its a goot video

  • Thank you, glad you like it! :)

  • hey know where i can get bags for a dual sanitronic 50? and do newer kirby bags work?

  • I'm English - we didn't have the Dual Sanitronic 50 over here. Kirbys aren't really my area, I'm afraid, sorry! Are you a Vacuumland member? I'm sure someone there could help you.

  • no i'm not a vacuumland member dude all i just wanted to know is will the newer kirby bags work on the older models.

  • I would guess that they don't, because the bag collar must be totally different.

  • might as well get one that i can get bags for. prehapes one of the g models, was there ever a g1? you have some nice vacuums. iv'e seen some of your videos and thinks there cool. hey would you do a royal everlast for me? i have been wanting to see a royal for quit some time now thanks

  • The G3 was the first of the G-Series. If you're buying one I'd recommend the G6 or G7. I'm glad you like the video, but I can't do any Royals because I don't have any in my collection. I live in England, and they've never been sold here.

  • ok tell me about the pembroke welsh corgi

  • Why would I know anything about that?! I'm a vac guy, not a dog guy!

  • because they come from england you don't have one?

  • Are you for real!? Many, many things come from England, doesn't mean I have all of them! lol

  • well i was hopeing you would have one as a pet. how long will a kirby last? and how do you not bug the people on your street all those vacuums?

  • Bald eagles are from America...do you have one of those as a pet? I have 1 dog, a greyhound.

Why should the people on my street care about the vacs - it's not like I take them for walks round the neighbourhood. I'd sure some of them have far more sinister things in their houses anyway.

  • no i don't have one as a pet that would be dumb. and a greyhound? why not a welsh corgi? you would have it as a pet, or in my case a pillow for sleeping.

  • I already have the greyhound; I'm not about to take it back to the shelter and ask for a refund. I don't like corgis anyway.

  • why not they are such nice dogs i just love them to death. is there something wrong with them? i wouls use it as a pillow for sleeping.

  • I'm sure they are nice dogs...the Queen has 16! But I'm just not keen on them myself. Don't know why.

  • wow 16! they would make nice pillows for my bed.

  • Hi VintageHoover guy. Are you a vac' collector?

  • Hi, yes I am :)

  • I'm from England and I haven't got a Corgi, I can't stand small dogs, I can't really stand dogs full stop actually!!! I prefer my cats... :P

  • Dunno if you're still around, but the Kirby D50 never had a paper bag system, the ones often fitted to older Kirbys were non-Kirby bags that used Eureka F&G bags. If yours has this setup, you could invest in a paper bag system that uses genuine Kirby parts, and be able to use the latest Polypropylene filter bags...

Without seeing it though I couldn't recommend as to what is best, personally, I'd prefer to use the original shake-out bag system, as it is original to the vacuum... :)

  • Your G5 sounds perfectly normal to me...

I have a G5 aswell, and it too makes the same noise with TechDrive in drive mode, and speaking with other TD Kirby owners, theirs makes the same noise too, so it's not a fault, it's just a feature of it's gearbox... :)

  • Lots of people have now told me that! I had been told by someone that it sounded worn, and should be almost silent in use, but it seems in reality, they all sound like this! I wasn't entirely happy with the cleaner for other reasons, anyway - I decided to keep it, but I've now bought a Diamond Edition, so this and the G4 will be sold to help pay for it!

  • My Kirby does the same exact thing if you see my video i added

  • Nice, hoping to get the G5 soon, how do you like it?
