  • This is HER role! Wonderful performance.

  • È davvero posseduta questa regina!! Mi fa paura :D

  • My favorite part is when she gets control of her shawl and puts it back on to the music.

  • Love this voice !!

  • Wonderful... BRAVA!!!!!

  • Fantastica !

  • What an extraordinary voice!

  • She and the wind had a little battle to see who could blow the other away.

    The wind lost!

  • this aria has been written for her. (:

  • oh I LOVE her!.

  • es maravillosa

  • @camilabb01 Definitivamente.

  • w0w God talk about appropriately placed wind....

God: "hmmm you know what would make this song more awesome .... WIND!!!"

Diana: "Right on God!!! Yeah Wind"

  • My jaw drops, my eyes widen. She embodies this song as if it were written for her - about her - with her in mind! She is legendary and an inspiration to artists of all kinds.

  • If not the best Queen of the Night, one of the bestEST ever!

I shall add, a superfial fact, but... her gown was perfect for the performance :D!!!

  • Is it me or did she seem to conjure the wind when she began singing? Absolutely amazing. The marriage of a fantastic instrument and a fantastic actress. Brava divina!!

  • @pryvtedncr haha, even mother nature seems to agree she's the best!

  • @pryvtedncr No it was conjured. I believe when Mozart wrote this he wanted the singer to bring the second coming blow the roof off the place at the same time. Such a powerful piece of music.

  • Her voice is addicting.

  • No one in this world sing as this woman (I love rock and hate opera, but this woman is absolutely unbelievable).

Next to her, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Fiona Lewis even Sarah Brightman looks like compelling amateurs.

  • @caravaggio31 have you heard epica, tarja, therion, or such bands??? they all have very good female singers

  • amazing!

  • The wind billowing through her sash was just too perfect, as was her rendition of the song. She is a master at what she does.

  • She's the most beautiful German woman I have ever seen! And the voice is just amazing! La Divina of 21th century!!

  • she was born to sing that song! BRAVISIMA!!

  • ever ..one should not expose ourselves to the detriment of another soprane.no think is good taste!

  • DIVA

  • No words for this. Just the best ever.

  • She is a godess!!!

  • braaaaavooooo!!!!

  • @MarsTerrible you mean brava! XD

  • I have often created in my artistic mind how I thought this aria, ideally, could and should be performed. I never in my lifetime expected to hear and see a performer with the right combination of vocal security and comprehension of effective, believable acting bring that concept into reality. I was wrong! Bravissima, Damrau! Mille, mille grazie!!

  • @briandstewart Sorry, only just saw this comment. Absolutely spot-on. Everything seems exactly as it should be - even on a cold Welsh afternoon/evening - simply wonderful.

  • Is that a wind machine at the beginning? Whatever, it's a brilliant effect.

  • No one living can Diana Damrau as The Queen of the Night. No one

  • OMG I love this woman! To me, she and Lucia Popp own this aria =D

  • @RafinhaAugusto Thank you! So I'm not the only one thinking this!

  • Say what you will about Sumi Jo and others, but none have the power and spirit of performance like Diana Damrau. Her sound is exquisite and her technique and ability to emulate the character with such brilliance, there has been no other performance I have seen of this caliber.

  • i loved how she got quiet at the end of the 2nd staccato section, i love how you see the fury in her eyes, i love how she growled at the end. I loved this performance period. Diana Damrau truly is The Queen of the Night.

  • LOVE THE FAN.

  • Avalon 0707 netrebko is lyric soprano but Damrau is Coloratura

This is different things Netrebko is a good singer

    of course Damrau

I think u have to delete that word fuck is boring Netrebko

she is a good actriss and good mom :)

  • ja l'aime plus que tout. quelle inspiration.

  • it's so......amazing!!

    AWESOME!!!

by the way....she look like Meryl Streep!! haha!

  • she's got the fierceness of the Queen that's rarely there in other performers - the best Queen of the Night

  • Top

  • She is simply DI-VINE!

  • brava!

  • she is amazing here..her performance is flawless...her face is filled with emotion, especially towards the end...she is one of the best for this role..

  • Damrau is impressive, but it is not her best performance of this aria.

  • The wind in her stole made her extra angry in this performance... 1:49 ... she's piiiiissed! haha!

  • SUPERBA!!!

  • Bloody sensational. Great scarf work too! She is by far the Queen of the Queen's!

  • @MrTamzzin She is not better than Joan Sutherland, Edda Moser, and Maria Callas when singing this Aria

  • @Royalorgans In your opinion dear. I have studied and listened to many singers performing this role and in my educated opinion, like I said above... she is by far the best!

  • @Royalorgans callas never sang this.

  • she's phenomenal!!!

  • damrau is fantasic!

  • this woman is amazing!!!!!!!!!!! she's the best queen of the night ever! WITHOUT A DOUBT.. I adore her!!! BRAVA DAMRAU!

  • she's really good.. bravo!

  • I love her professionalism! That takes some doing in bad weather. What a star....

  • I loove her!!!

She is just the best queen of the night ever!!!

She not just sing it, she plays the queen of the night! always, it doesn't matter if it's a concert, she always acts like the queen of the night, she is just amazing!

  • @LorraineCash

so true! have you seen the video of her in that from covent garden? WOW

  • @qyzuf Hello, Yes! that one is amazing!!! I love her as the queen of the night, she is just it!

  • Phenomenal!!!!

    Bravo!!!!!

  • talk about out of this world, the character through out the whole song is just phenomenal, the intensity and feeling was incredible. i would hate to make that woman mad:)

  • I am struggling to find words to describe this performance.

  • i dont want to die anymore......

  • Always a good thing.

  • abgesehen von ihrem unglaublichen habitus.

wie kann man so makellos singen.

ich vermute, momentan gibt es nichts besseres

    als damrau.

  • I appreciate this more than her opera performances where she has to wear heavy makeup because here her striking physical beauty clearly shines through. Nevertheless, she is able to effectively project the malevolence and aura of evil pride of the the Queen of the Night. The inconvenience of her long midnight blue shawl being blown about in this outdoor setting fails to deter from her performance and actually enhances it. Note how she "angrily" grabs part of it from her arm.

  • Outstanding! Fantastic acting!

  • I love how the wind only adds to the effect of this aria. I can see her standing at the top of a mountain singing this fiercefully causing the storm around her. :-) I love her. She is completely awesome!

  • @oneworldguy

Hey! I was going to add the same comment, and since I could not express it better in english (I´m spanish), I totally agree with you!

  • Did anyone ever see her at the Met when she played this part? I'm curious to know the audience reaction-is it subdue becasue it's an opera at the Met or do people flip out? Private Message me if you've witnessed it!

  • per favore se sapete il suo indirizzo inviatemelo! grande!

  • WOW

  • She rocks !

  • she the best queen of the night ever!!! I love her voice!

  • @liricobarroco Sumi Jo is the best Queen of the night

  • I love the way she dedicates her whole self to this role. And how the wind goes through her dress at the beginning, quite frightening.

  • Diana Damrau probably is the best opera-singer alive. History will call her name and Callas in the same breath. Her voice is perfect, her performing also unreached. And she is very sympathetic and natural offstage. Nothing diva-like. Who the fuck is boring Netrebko?

  • Amen Brother !

  • Yes Diana is the greatest we have seen, but not sure if we need to take away from others (Netrebko). Diana is now being reconised as the greatest but doesent mean everyone else is not good. There just not as good as the best there is being Diana.

  • @Avalon0707 i dont think so Netrebko is Good Singer

i think u dont know what is the music?

  • @Avalon0707 : damn you, netrebko is operatic, her style is different from damrau's.

  • I agree no one can touch Diana Damrau especially in this role.

  • @Avalon0707 Hey, Netrebko is also a great singer! Of course their voices are different, but that's what makes opera beautiful, isn't it?

  • Empress of Queens.

  • It doesn't get any better than this...stunning performance, stunning soprano, history will record Diana Damrau as an ATG ( all time great ) coloratura soprano.

  • Perfect! She's the Queen of the Night, Morning, noon and afternoon for me. Why does Youtube not have a repeat button for clips. I guess I can make a playlist where this one in played 20 times in a row.

  • no one rocks Der Holle Rache like Diana Damrau.

  • amazing!!! Diana Damrau is the queen of the night!!xx

  • ....and i think that Queen just made me piss in my pants. She looks as if she just came straight out of the fires of hell.....and still looks fabulous!!

  • I think hers is the best i've heard since Lucia Popp!

  • I love her shawl blowing, it adds drama! God she's fantastic and seems so lovely

  • her stare is frightening, she could stare me into peeing my pants if she wanted, and i am pretty brave person

  • This has to be the best Queen ever! x

  • what a beautiful woman...

  • Yes she is. She is perfection.

  • As usual she is applauded by the musicians as much as the audience

  • pangit jr

  • simply AMAZING!!! Bravissima!!!

  • My sons says Yeah netrebko is beautiful But he reckons Diana is a stunner he says her face is really alive LOL He thinks she is really hot LOL

  • ahhahahha..that's funny...

    Diana ROX!

  • She is Such a power house what a voice such strength such clarity ......WOW

  • She is amazing!!!*claps*

  • GIRRRRL!!

Still as fierce as ever! even in the wind... she makes it enhance her performance!

  • the best queen's of the night performer at this moment!

  • Es la mejor Reina de la Noche que hubo, Diana Damrau es una genia, me encanta el tinte que le da al personaje..

    She's awesome!!

  • classsss !

  • What a fantastic, outstanding performance! Wish I'd been there!

  • her look at 3:22 is simply genius

  • nobody in the universe is able to ask the Gods to hear like she does...

  • perfect!!! she was born for this role

  • Oh the wind blowing adds such a nice touch!!

  • Are you serious here?

  • OMG. I fell further in love with her after seeing this

  • Incroyable !

  • THE MEANEST, EVER!

  • BRAVISSIMA!

  • Brava Diana! You are perfection embodied!!

  • Mmm... I'm scared... :>

  • Hehe loving the blinging rings on the outside of her gloves!

and of course, the goddess herself! i want to marry this women!

  • She was born for this role... just like brightman for the phantom of the opera and fleming for gliter and be gay...Damrau is the next callas

  • fleming for gliter and be gay? it is in her mother tongue and her diction is bad. You can understand the diva Ds (damrau & dessay) much better! don't get me wrong, i like flemming but dont agree that she was born for this part.

Diana is DEFINATELY QOTN and Dessay is Olympia! good good times :D

  • a big "boo"to dessay's acting is all

  • oh... and by the way, u seem not to have listened to flemming's version of glitter and be gay, her diction is not perfect but seemingly better than dessay's cuz if u havent noticed dessay justk makes noise and shortens lots of words, but w/e its just the way i see it... not arguing at all just saying my opinion ^_^

  • Невероятно изпълнение със страхотен заряд!!!

  • Its like her emotions merge with her singing technique. So naturally expressive.

  • she isn't acting the queen of the night....she IS the queen of the night...!

  • Definately my favorite Queen who is currently singing the role!

  • She's not singing the role currently... it's off her repertoire.

  • LOL! I know! I'm so angry because I discovered Damrau and The Queen of the Night just a week after she finished her last performance at the Met! Damn! I could have easily gone, too!

  • aw that sucks so bad.. she's like the best queen of her age.

i'm satisfied with having the covent garden production haha. too bad queen only has 2 arias in that opera.

I'm going to see her Gilda at the Met in April, but personally I think that's not her repertoire.

  • Well..The thing is, she stopped preforming this role because after a while, a person's voice literally kills this song. Its not that's she's not interested because she's still preforming and recording this song, its just that she doesn't want it to get old..

  • plus, she knows that it can damage her voice if she sings it too many times....i mean...come on, there are 4 high STACCATO Fs....

  • That's so true an' those are great reasons killerbunny and kit11104.

  • @baritonebynight Sorry Sumi Jo is better with this role, Diana is with Sumi the best but Sumi make a better job whit Der holle rache

  • @EdenVandeCamp Some people like tacos, other people like burritos. Some like Jo, others like Damrau. Both very accomplished singers. I prefer tacos and Damrau, but I'd gladly pay to hear either sing the role. Best wishes with your burritos.

  • @EdenVandeCamp Opinion.

  • the most dramatic, evil and perfect queen of the night (L)!!!!!!!!!!!

    Brava Dianaa!

  • Never in our lifetime will we encounter a queen like this again. Long live the Queen! :-)

  • DAMN!! Just when I think she could not get any more fabulous I see something like this!

Vocally amazing of course, but SO well acted, just from the face alone. Not many singers can do a character that well standing in one place. And having the high wind and her scarf blowing everywhere didn't faze her a bit, she just dealt with it.

    BRAVISSISSIMA DIVA!!!

  • oh my god... what i woulda given to be a pamina to that!!!!

  • Be sure to wear daipers! Did you see her Covent Garden production? See the title (search terms) DIANA DAMRAU AS QUEEN OF THE NIGHT II. That is the performance which first turned me on to listening to her performances whenever possible since. In that production, her performance is truly like some powerful being from the pits of hell. Her portrayal was something inhuman. Frightfully delightful!

  • Those people sure paid a pretty price to see her perform that live. DAMN! I discovered her JUST as she removed this role from her repertoire!

  • Her voice is just sex

  • DITTO!!

  • she practically snarls "Mutter Shwur" like a cat!

  • She's always perfect...I love her...

  • OMG!!! She's the best!!!

  • This makes me so sentimental. Although the grace notes before the passages were not as clean, the quintessential Queen is still there. She's still got those F's, and sings them with inimitable ease. AND THE EXPRESSIONS ON HER FACE!!! That's Hell's fury, alright. Anyhow, The date says "8-08". Does that mean August '08, or 8th of August?

  • August 08.

  • It´s sooooo sad, that there was no wind blowing, when she was sining the

    3rd."Hört!!!".

  • OMG!!!!! This cant be true... it´s so perfect. Her Voice, Her rage, her Dress... and the the wind. OMG, it´s just like she the "real" Queen of the Night. This performance was not from this earth. DIANA I LOVE YOU!!! I´m soooo out of breath. BRAVA!!!! Shes the Godness of Music.

  • I love the effect the wind gives! and diana is as perfect as ever :)

  • Me too, but sometimes her shawl thing whaps her in the face and she blinks amazedly...it's so funny :P

  • I thought she retired this!

  • OMG me too! What happened? She's still doing it and amazing! She never should have retired it!!

  • well sung but tempo very slow. loses the excitement at this snail's pace

  • she is my queen!!!!!

    Wonderful wind effects!!!!!!

  • And IMO this recording is definetely better than on her disc with Harry Potter's brother...
