  • this game has better textures than Gears of War

  • what system is this being played on?the guns are being held strangely,i remember them being in the bottom right part of the screen

  • @ZakkHuroku You can choose wherever it is placed, on Settings I believe. No windows makes difference.

  • unreal is the shit. new school gamers have no idea what unreal did to the industry...

  • Holy crap! For ten minutes straight, I was just staring at the screen, having the most awesome flashback ever! As if my mind and body teleported 13 years back in time!

  • best graphics, best music (all sounds are great, elevators etc), asmd. E_P_I_C

  • This and UT is when Epic was at their peak.

  • Man, I loved this game in the day. It was tres cool.

  • Let's just say the music from this game...

    *Puts on sunglasses*

    ...is UNREAL!

    YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAHHH!

  • Epic went from this to Gears of War. And sadly, Gears outsells games like this a million to one. What the hell is wrong with people?

  • @Inferno288 not to say Gears of War is bad, I love the game. But Epic need to make a new Unreal game!!

  • @Inferno288 well we don't know if thats true totally, if epic made a new Unreal game that was published and advertised like GoW was and was an actual good game, who knows, it might sell a lot.

  • @Inferno288 Gears has never been #1 bestseller on Steam. Nuff said.

  • @Inferno288 hahaha holyfuck man thats what im trying to make people understand gear of wars is considerend one of the best saga in the gaming industry and i just cant understand why its a butched up game.

  • 2:58 bit sounds so much like deux ex 1 music which makes it even more awesome!

  • This game changed my life.

  • Lol! Its a FLY Mode. You don't see, he is flying? Its to fast jumping man. And for idea i give a 4/5!

  • The first music and the last was made by the Gods I tell you.

  • surprisingly, music created with an "Ancient" Technology (at that time, MOD's were really outdated) .. end up so freakin good! :) Game was a breakthru, but the music is immortal :)

  • Alexander Brandon FTW

  • unreal and unreal tournament 99 are my best games ever + awesome music :D

  • the music in this game is "Unreal"!

  • this is the best PC game of all time... i have it and im kinda obsessed :P i know all of the cheats in it too, how to fly... turn into a ghost, how to get all the weapons at the very beginning of the game. its awesome

  • did u call people from guinessbook ?it could be a record

  • Still to this day one of my all time favorite games ever.

  • @bluemanor

    Same here

  • @bluemanor you damn right...I play it and Unreal Gold over and over....the music is great

  • wow man really fast! how long does it take for you to complete the game? like 25 min or something? xd

  • Unreal 4 life!

  • f**k!!! for sure, you are a threat in multiplayer mode, I hope not to encounter with you hehe

  • still today one of the best single player I have ever played... A pity that unreal2 was so bad. Is there any new Unreal game coming up soon? :o

  • first song name?? :O

  • @1ChannelTV Sorry i don't have the name of the song, but if you look for the game, the song is the opening of the Unreal: Return to Na Pali.

  • still playing these days, oldunreal mod, higres textures, 1920x1080, still pretty enjoyable-great run in this vid

  • This game looks amazing for it's time too bad my mother never let me play video games when i was young :(

  • Wow! How did you get threw all of that in 9 miniutes?! O.o

  • 2:19 - that song first played when you emerge from the crashed ship. Not only did it set the mood for the level and showed it's beauty, looking up at the sky to see the 2 suns - It gave you a glimpse of the kind of game it was going to be. This was the Crysis of 1998 - back when games had graphics AND gameplay. (not to say Crysis is bad, but other games certainly are) Walking into the trench created by your ship, overlooking the giant waterfall was an experience unrivaled in gaming.

  • Nice game loved it played it a long time ago but thats all i played for those years those was good times good music fun multiplayer and singleplayer just not as many people online anymore though fun addicting and still good for memories plus alot of good cool people online this game is a classic legend

  • Nice game loved it played it a long time ago but thats all i played for those years those was good times good music fun multiplayer and singleplayer just not as many people online anymore though

  • I love this game, it defines my childhood as a gamer.

  • I used to play this game online with a 56k modem, on a Celeron 400 (mhz) with 32MB of RAM and a 4MB graphics card. And I still rocked ass with a 320 ping and like 0-15 FPS. Good times, man.

  • The second song... my journey into a new world... *cries*

  • Yeah !! Im Remember That !!!

Im playing in Unreal To 98 year )))))

    Amazing Game & Music .. )))

Unreal MEGA GAME and forever ))))

  • I remember that !

Played so hard, it was like a travel in the deep Space ! ! !

  • No, one comment is not enough. I feel sorry for those who did not play unreal in its prime, they will never understand.

  • Unreal, the God of all games. I will never forget playing Co-op online after school when i was young. I can play the whole game through in my mind, every secret, every enemy, every object/item. and here i was thinking i was the only person who converted the UMX files to MP3... Herbal essences shampoo reminds me of the temple of chizra, vanilla ice cream reminds me of the Sunspire. Played for 6 years without buying another game. Long live Unreal!

  • @OOOOhhhhNNNNoooo Oh no no. You do not convert the umx to mp3! You extract the s3m/it files and play them with a player that supports them (winamp, anything based on xine, I think vlc, etc.). This way you do not encode the music in a lossy format and you have both parts (the quiet and the action part) of each song.

  • I got Unreal in 2001. I could not believe that I got such a great game at such a low price ($9.99). I love the game and the sequel, Return to Na Pali. Unreal 2 was far to short and just not the same. I still play Unreal, although I use the weapons from Unreal Tournament. The music really made the game. Sometimes I just listen to the music to relax.

  • This game is unique. And it was so groundbreaking back in 98. I still play it sometimes.

10 minutes long video doesn't really do justice to this GST. Pretty much every track is superb.

  • great map design

  • unreal was iconic. the birth of the modern first person shooter right here. *love*

  • One of my favourite games, the original Unreal was pure atmosphere, and a large part of that was due to the music. It's a shame Unreal 2 couldn't replicate it. I hope Epic will one day release an Unreal 3 that takes us back to how the original made us feel. The electronic/orchestral soundtrack was, and still is, amazing. There's a reason I have this music on my iPod! Thank you, Alexander Brandon and Michiel van den Bos for such amazing tracks!

  • 2:44 is one of the best soundtracks i've heard, it has the awesomeness factor, you crashed landed on an alien island, yet at the same time youre admiring the mountains and scenery

  • @bag04u

    I concur! :(

People today mostly want to play mindless death-matches and don’t care for the in-game depth, level creativity / length or story lines.

  • By far one of the coolest FPS ever! The exploration & non-linear factor and over all length of this game are simply unparalleled. You actually feel that you’re travelling through an alien world! And the sky with the 2 suns is absolutely gorgeous!

Too bad they don't make games like these any more! :(

  • @alxxz I agree with you. The best fps ever and yet so unknown. *sigh*

Many players think UT=Unreal. Sad. What hapened to the gamership and to the games. I also have this bad feeling we won't play any games like this anymore... :(

  • @SlyGamer1000

I just checked and Unreal 1 had 38 levels in total! Even its expansion pack Return to Napali had 17!Modern FPS dont even come close to that count. The only modern FPS that delivered similar thrills & wow factor were Aliens Vs Predators 2, Doom 3 and Half Life 2 series & Prey, but even they did not even come close to the length, variety and vastness of Unreal’s world. Only some older DOS based FPS could be compared to Unreal like Heretic, Hexen I & II,Doom1&2,Alien Breed 3D (Amiga)

  • i remember when this first came out the gfx and levels were amazing, gameplay was top notch.

nice speed run too, is it optimal ?

  • best shooter ever !!! story, music and fear effects better than a lot of games today !!

  • agreed

  • After part 1 the series went down the shitter.

  • @Cyricque yes, it was the game's simplicity that convinced.... it had original metroid's "i am trapped alone on a hostile world"-feeling.... although I think it was kind of boring only seeing dead humans. Later, when there were more humans implicated, it was like war on the skaarj and goodbye. At least it is how I felt it was. So where is the remake? :)

  • What took him 9 min. took me a week and a half.

  • Very incredible game, years ahead from the others of that years!

  • its a speedrun

  • This game affected me as a child. My parents had just got their first computer when my dad found a graphics card on sale bundled with unreal. None of them knew what it was about untill they put it in the disk drive. I grew up playing this game and I still find the story and music mesmerising. This game still has a community and fans. Epic has the unreal enging and the money. WHY IS THERE NO FOLLOW UP!?! This is the only game i ever had a dream or nightmare about. This needs to be brought back!

  • My all time favorite game. I thought it was cooler than the other games of the time simply because the weapons had dual functions, and sometimes 3. The online deathmatch for unreal was my favorite shooter. Too bad they didn't complete the code soon enough to compete with Quake 2 which basically stole everyone away from Unreal multiplayer.

  • Unreal had music?

  • @Xesum

    ofcourse

  • @Thechos3n666 How odd, I guess I never noticed the music.

  • @Xesum

    Unreal had awesome music!

Especially the track at the Terraniux stage, pure techno!!

  • one of my favourite games!

  • No Other game is like unreal and even still today it rates as one of my top FPS of all time. The music, the environment, the atmosphere, gameplay, graphics, guns, story and so much more. Why couldn't unreal 2 be like this?? They need to make a new unreal game based on the first unreal!

  • Unreal, Half Life and Jedi Knight were the first modern shooters as we know them. With a huge story and super gamplay. But only Unreal had the Moment at the beginning, when you step out of the prison ship and you see this unbelievible beautiful gorge, the birds, the sky and of course the music. One of the most epic scenes ever.

  • To me, Unreal was by far the most original FPS I have ever played.

Everything else nowadays is all the same. Unreal is what I consider to be one of the best storylines for a game ever. EVER. Im tired of ravaged earth gameplay, warfare that goes on today, and random aliens that attack us for no reason. Halo? Fuck halo!

Only game better is Half-Life. No exeptions.

  • Where is part 2??? omg how fast did he go through the levels, i remember playing this and being very young and too scared too continue, with the flying monsters and shit, scared me to death :D

  • easy game

nice to make friends wen online

  • Actually, the thing I enjoyed most in Unreal was taking my time to explore the levels, and just too look at the world... Great soundtrack, b the way...

  • Oh yeah!! All Unreal music was awesome!!

  • The best game soundtrack ever!!!

  • I was disappointed in this music entry. But not because it's bad--it's because there are so many awesome tracks that were left out!

Once, I burned my own soundtrack of all the Unreal songs. It didn't even fit on two whole CDs. Kid you not.

  • First track is from Return to Na Pali

  • The first track is not from Unreal 1 for sure

  • Is from Unreal Return to Na Pali (expansion pak)

  • @d4rkbru5t3r

The beginning is, but I think he ment the entire Unreal (both expansion and actual game...)

  • pushing a barrel underwater up to the surface to perform a rocked jump from it - hax-like skillz! ;D

  • I have all music files from the game and I don't recall the first song from this video. are you sure it's from U1, not UT, oslt? anyway, I love this game, I love it's music, thanks for the vid

  • Yep Epic's Tim Sweeney pwned John Carmack with this engine, compare this to quake 2 and you'll see, PC gaming history and I bought it on release, cherished memories.

  • But the Quake 2 engine is/was more stable, than the first Unreal engine (especially, the early versions [from 1.0]).

  • Unreal has always stuck in my mind, i used to watch my dad play this when it first came out, and it was the game that got me addicted to computer games, the guns, music and for some reason the sound of the dude walking has always stuck with me. Such a great game! (btw the guy playing this is so awsome!) XD

  • Could someone tell me what's the name of the first song?

  • Amazing speedrun. Several hundreds time faster than I was.

  • Among the best gamemusic ever produced!

  • I love playing this game.

The best way to describe it is beautiful.

I can't believe it, but it's actually better than Quake!

  • I should install this, I just found mah old Unreal CD.

  • The music in this game is GODLY. NO OTHER GAME HAS MUSIC THIS GOOD!

  • I agree

  • @10samm10 System Shock 2, Deus Ex and Quake 1 and 3 are up there to name a few.

  • @10samm10

    Unreal had awesome music!

Especially the track at the Terraniux stage, pure techno!!

  • @10samm10 it's the soundtrack of "the fugitive" ;)

ok, I would love to see a remake of unreal with Cryengine 2 :)

  • @cero815

Nah, Unreal 3 engine, keep it real!

  • I miss watching people play this. I loved the stupid ways you could die XD Once I watched my friend charge forward through a doorway as soon as the game started and fell into space and died. And another time when she died and saw her body fly across the screen after she had just respawned.

  • That first track is awesome!

  • one of teh best music in games!

And of course one of teh best games at the time.

  • Comment removed

  • Another example of old games still impressing today's generation of gamers cus its just so awesome. Not calling you very young or anything, just a tad bit.

  • Sorry but sex is above all things.

the game is non-stop awesome. The music...me'h

  • Dusk Horizon (2:20) is the greatest piece of music in a video game ever. Alexander Brandon and Michiel van den Bos are fucking awesome!

"Epic Games" is called that way for a reason... Too bad nowadays they make unimpressive mainstream games like Gears of War or UT3 (not bad games, but nothing special compared to Unreal). Unreal is a groundbreaking, breath-taking experience no one can forget...

Unreal and Half-Life 1 to me are the greatest video games of all time. Genre-defining classics...

  • I even made my own mp3 cd with my favorite game soundtracks on it.

The songs here are one of the greatest from the game.

Dusk is my personnal favorite :)

  • Best soundtrack in a videogame ever. that simple.

And best game in history. Gave me goose bumps a lot of times when I first played through it.

  • god i loved killing those six armed passive guys lol

  • similar soundtrack to deus ex

anyway great game, was really perplexed when i first played the game, sounds, graphics, gameplay- everything was perfect + awesome multiplayer support

  • It was the same guy i think

  • There are some similarities, but many differences. Just goes to show how talented Alexander Brandon is.

  • First of all: Greatest soundtrack of all time. Second: Unreal was one of the few FPS' which made you feel like you actuall exploringa developing planet. I mean, sneaking into the mountain pass gatehouse was absolutely amazing.

  • Yep, excellent game, but mostly because it just created such an awesome atmosphere. Letting you explore the planet was breathtaking , it felt like one giant world, not just a bunch of separate levels.

One of the best FPS of all time, hands down.

  • I have never seen more colors in a game before ... those days.

    Hail to 3DFX anyway.

  • The music that starts a 2:30 is called "Dusk". Love it. :)

  • whats the name of the song right before?

  • Yeah, incredible track. Reminds me very much of Deus Ex, too.

  • Well, this doesn't surprise me - the Deus Ex soundtrack was made by the same guys who made Unreal's soundtrack - Alexander Brandon and Michiel van den Bos. These guys are true music geniuses! :)

  • Best game in history, period.

  • They don't make FPS like they used to imo.

  • Unreal was so incredible. It's use of shadows, colors, light spectrum... it was amazing just to enjoy every second. Just walking around felt amazing. The long lapses between exploring and fighting was great.

Unlike games like Halo and Gears of War, which rarely give you a moment to sit back. Unreal really knew how to set the mood, and give you not only good action, but a deep, enthralling experience.

It was beyond its time. I will never forget its splendor.

  • it is sad that this Company never made a Game wich came even close to this one. Unreal 2 and the Tournament ones just didnt live up to this one sadly.

  • Agreed. Epic has really disappointed me lately, no longer being known for Unreal and now saying that Gears of War is their flagship title.

Really, really disappointing for a long time fan - Unreal was absolutely amazing and one of the single most memorable games I have ever played in my life and I miss that they can't recapture that feeling of immensity and scale and detail that they did in the original game. I loved Unreal, and still do, and the community will forever be one of the best online

  • @strikerk You are so right... I can't stay without playing it, now I have it on my HDD (with windows 7 XD)...

  • @strikerk : you're right. I fully agree.

  • that was one long ass game when it came out

  • This actually looks good enough to go back and play again.

  • Fuck yes, Unreal techno is awesome.

On a related note, I also love the under appreciated title, Tyrian.

  • still got that game. maybe i should try it again for good ol times sake ;)

  • Haven't played this game, but the music is so much better than Half life's one.

    Nice video ;)

  • Very nice atmospheric soundtrack! Not too ambient either but in between! :).

  • Heyy, Alexander Brandon did the Tyrian music too.

You should do Tyrian sometime, if you haven't already, that is.

  • that second song is stuck in the back of my mind since I played this, and I played it the year it was out!

  • Oh yeah! Unreal really had UNREAL graphics for its time!

  • Tune at 8:30 effin KICKS!!!

  • How come I never noticed such

a kickass soundtrack when I was playing. :D

  • Too busy looking at the awesome graphics, I suppose. And I don't mean that in a bad way, either. Unreal was an amazing game to look at.

  • Yeah... 3D doesn't age well.
