Many Territories like Los Angeles San Diego San Francisco San Antonio New Mexico Arizona had Spanish people who became Mexican when Mexico got its independence from Imperialism. However you must understand that because of World War 2 people had to hush up about being German American because of suspicions. Yes, I am familiar with New Braunfels Texas and it's unique German heritage. Half of my ancestors were in Texas before the arrival of the Germans in the 1850s. South Texas was only Mexico for 30-40 years. How long has Germany been Germany? The only culture for me to claim is the Spanish culture. My indigenous were robbed of their culture.

It is a fusion of Spanish and Indigenous culture fused together and is celebrated in Mexico and on this side of the Border in various Mexican communities in the Southwest part of the United States. Also much of the food is also indigenous as well that has been incorporated to make Mexican food. Tortillas de Maiz or Corn Tortillas is one example.

Hernan Cortes is credited for starting the Mestizo people and founding Mexico. The truth is that Mexico could not be founded with out the support of indigenous people.
