  • Happy B-Day Jimmy.

  • LOS PUTOS AMOS DEL ROCK!!!

  • anyone know the name of that instrument that guy is playing

  • @educatedrock if it's the 'grinder' type instrument you are talking about. it's a Hurdy Gurdy.

  • one of Leadbelly?Zeppelin's pieces of work...blew me away when I was eleven years old and I'm 49 now...still blowing me away.,..trying to get my son who is in a rockband to do a cover of it...

If you liked this song you'll also love In the Pines by Nirvana..another Leadbelly classic

  • I gave it another listen just to make sure and i still have the same oppinion because when Robert starts singing alongside the whirly gig thing his voice almost disapears. Its as though there was a volume normalisation filter working over time when you got it ready for posting.

Thanks for posting the vid though because that side of it is damn good even on a big screen.

    Peace

  • @RumbleGuts2112, The new ver is almost up, it is much better. This was an old file that was found and re-uploaded, nothing was done to it. One of the things YOUTUBE also does on its videos is makes them PROGRESSIVE, they remove all INTERLACING than the video is actually compressed big time. To get the best quality uploads; over do the videos converting them to 720p. That way when they get compressed they look better. A 10 minute vid using a mean bit rate of 15000 is about 1 gig.

  • This is a terrible rendition because the uploader murdered the sound quality - find a better one and enjoy :)

    Peace

  • @RumbleGuts2112, WTF are u talking about, nothing was done to the sound quality on this vid. Try it in 480p, YOUTUBE compresses all videos to MP3 format for AUDIO, you ARE GETTING A COMPRESSED SOUND with every VIDEO on this SITE. MP3 = 100 Times Compression from the SOURCE = BACKWARDS TECHNOLOGY. The source video, which is not on YOUTUBE was coded to 192kbs Stereo PCM format. Personally code user created vids to 224kbs or 384kbs. This was an old video and nobody was paying the bill to fix it.

  • @hynodesignsclassics No need to get so angry about it my friend - It's just that i've heard better versions on YouTube. I dont expect 5.1 surround etc but your upload has a lot of clipping involved and kind of hurts the song more than it should. Some people upload with just an album cover but the sound quality is fantastic. Go listen and you will hear what i mean.

    Peace

  • @RumbleGuts2112, Ok it does sound like shit !!

  • @RumbleGuts2112, Going to remix the audio on this video to 384kbs and run it through a soundboard mixer than convert to 5.1.....Good enough, give me 30 minutes

  • In my opinion this is the most difficult rock and roll song to cover or play. It's almost impossible near the end when the pace gets frantic yet jimmy freaking page makes it look ridiculously easy even in his elder years.

  • Fantastic version! Thanks for posting.

  • Tuned one whole step down.

  • Help me out here pleeease! What is the name of that enchanting wind up piano accordian-stringed instrument of wonder?

  • @Tooleyman It's called a hurdy gurdy

  • @seraph80 always wondered what a hurdy gurdy was...cool instrument..

  • I remember when I wrote this song, back in 1985....

  • @revolutionday1 sure ya did...lol

  • @SIGOP1 Maybe it was 1958... I do a lotta' drugs. :-P

  • One of my favorite L Z tunes. Took me a while to figure out how to play it. There are other rock guitarists that are ...technically better than Jimmy.....a few.....but none as versatile and creative as he is. A true "Guitar Hero".

  • I think the album version is in the key of A.........you can tell how hard it was on Robert Plant to sing that high. So, I believe Jimmy tunes down, so that his natural A chord is really in the key of G..... Sounds better, too.

  • @agsonofagunder

Thanks. Actually, for this version they tuned down a whole step, for Plant's voice, like you said, and probably to keep that cool chord stuff that Jimmy's got going.

  • @pr9301 actually, they tuned down half a step :) greetings!

  • Ok guitar players, a little help, what key did they lower it to?

  • Great song, good video quality :) thanks!

  • I agree,,thanks

  • The is the best version since the days...so glad the boys made it to do this...helps my heart
