hey have you try the canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L is usm and how can I tell the different between it and the sigma by looking both of them has red rings I know the EF 70-300 f/4-5.6 white but dose it come black thanks.
@faisaladh Hi, well, the lenses do look different upon inspection, just built slightly differently, I find the Sigma lenses have a slightly duller sheen to them. I believe the Canon 70-300mm F4L only comes in white.
@101blackopsfan I bought a t3i from bestbuy on black friday, so I got a discount on it, if I purchased it with the camera, but now looking for the 50 mm USM but it's so expensive.
Hi, I am new to DSLR's and recently purchased a Canon 450D. I would like to buy a bigger lens than the 18-55mm it came with. I am having trouble choosing between the Canon 55-250mm IS and the 70-300mm IS USM. I would appreciate it if you could tell me which one takes better quality images overall.
@elmacker1977 I think both lenses produce pretty good images. The 55-250mm doesn't have the USM motor, which might make it a bit slower, noisier. On the upside, the 55-250mm is quite a bit cheaper than the 70-300mm. If you've got the money, it might be worth looking into the Canon 70-200mm F4L lens - superior image quality as it's an L lens, but not all that much more expensive than the 70-300mm
@elmacker1977 Hi, I had both parallely, the 55-250 and the 70-300 so I could do tests and compare them (with a 500D back then). To be honest, regarding quality and resolution of the picture out of a still position, I had real problems to see any differences at all. Sometimes I even thought the 55-250 was making slightly crispier fotos under same conditions (shutter, iso, etc..), Though it might have been to the reason there is hardly a difference. What is a difference is the built quality though
@slrlens@FrozenAtrox on my channel you got e.g. valborg 561 and valborg 648 shot handheld with this lens in tele and IS enabled (due to crowd noise, the IS noise is not noticible). It's okay, but not smooth like you get from a tripod. But basically, if you want to film handleld tele and accept silly movements when you move the lens, it works.
@FrozenAtrox if you need something flexible and low budget just get the kit lens 18-55mm (zooming during filming sucks though!)if you can aford more and need flexibility the 15-85mm is great... for low budget and very low light and great bluriness of the background but not flexibility (stuck at 50mm) the canon 1.8 50mm is great.. I got them all!
@FrozenAtrox I would recommend you to buy a 50mm 1.4 or the 1.8 - they do not have IS, but they are mighty tools in low light / availible light situations. If you can afford it, you may want to go with a 70-200 2.8
@Appleaddict22 The Canon L lenses are meant to be built to a higher standard and typically give you sharper images... Originally meant for profesional use, they're used by all types of photographers these days...
Super-Tele-zoom-cam and variable aperture = CRAP, I've tested this lens myself, and the images came out horrible. Get a 70-200mm f/4 with or without IS.
hey, i have a few questions. i own a rebel eos xs, and i was wondering is there a difference from the ''canon 70-300 III usm lens'' and the ''canon 70-300 usm lens''. is one older then the other one, or are they the same? i was told if i get the 70-300mm lens,i should get the older version.
However, I read a lot of reviews on Amazon about the Canon 70-300 I found some comments like these:
I've used it for wildlife, for picking out faces in crowds for candid portraits, landscape, moon shots, and semi-macroshots with very satisfying results.
At 4ft away the macro shots are not too bad either. Great lens.
I use this lens to get awsome macro shots.
In your opinion, can I get some similar macro shots with the Canon than I can get with the Sigma?
@ansorhoorenbeek Hi there. If you're after the macro function then definitely the Sigma is the right choice. It's pretty good, I've taken some sharp macro shots with it myself, something you can't do with the Canon as it's not really designed for macro work.
@ddrougeau Thanks for pointing that out, you are indeed correct. Having double checked, this lens uses a Micro USM as opposed to a ring USM. Thanks for letting me know!
@MTBiker152 - Mode 1 turns on image stabilisation in all directions, mode 2 turns it on in the vertical axis only - e.g. used for when taking a photo of a moving object e.g. car
@xuanhao16 It is noticably faster than the Sigma at focusing, I don't think its necessarily twice as fast, but not far off. You'll notice it most when you're switching from near focusing to far focusing.
@heitzelalvarenga Well the Canon is definitely the better lens, it takes sharper photos, is quicker to focus and has image stabilisation. But it's also more than twice as expensive, so I guess it's a question of how much money you want to spend. Personally, I think the Sigma 70-300mm is a bit better than the Tamron 70-300mm.
Good review! I looked at the lens but the variable aperture is just too small. It's better than the EF-S 55-250. That's one of the first lenses I got when I first got into DSLRs. Good video!

the 300mm shot is actually pretty crisp. too dark but I know this is just for demo purposes. I'd like to see what this can do in optimum lighting.

Yes, of course. It's an Ef lens so you can use it on every canon dslr camera...
And if the AF will still be that fast.. I think so but i cant promise you.

HI. Thank you for your reviews. I´m getting into DSLR´s and I bought an EOS 60D 18-135 kit.
I want to buy a 70-300 and I´m between Sigma 70-300 APO or Canon 70-300 IS.
I know Canon is more expensive and I do like the Macro function on the Sigma, so Sigma was my first choice.
