  • those magnetic kids drawing things used to amaze me

  • Hey I have a printer too!

  • I love it. It has been years since I have seen an X-Y plotter in operation.

    GuruSantiago

    ElectronicsIsFun

  • dead end tech....... fun to play with but it gets boring quick.

  • Shit?

I meant the printers are already invented...

  • nice vid... make an automatic eraser underneath the paper? :P e-ink is our future. hopefully magazines will have it when it gets cheap. :) then we can se animated pictures just like in the magazines of the Harry Potter world. :)

  • So its essentially a MagnaDoodle with CNC programming. You have WAaaaaayy too much time on your hands. xDD

  • THE MACHINES ARE TAKING OVER

  • lol good comment:D

  • your amazing!

  • that scars me^^

  • Kipkay fanboy!

  • You should adapt it to include an eraser and get it to act like a PC screen!

  • thats awesome im gonna buy one

  • so its basicly a flexible whiteboard

  • its flexible... wooo! XD

  • sweet the future of homework writing assignments!

  • u should be a youtube partner

  • how to make this machine?

  • haha pretty cool

  • Stick a laser in it and you have a laser cutter?

  • what's the difference between paper and this? the magnetic thing can't do anything the paper can't?

  • you can erase without scalpel or rubber :-)

  • TK, the magnetic paper can be erased and used over and over without wearing out.

  • it can erase completely, and it's reusable. Felt tip pen on paper can't do that

  • ya but u can use regular paper for asinments and stuff like that

  • try to get it to draw something extremely detailed

  • that be hilarious to watch

  • w00t Atmel ATMEGA8

  • That's awesome.

  • Pretty cool but not very usefull. Most people use a regular printer these days :p the only usefull feature is the fact that it can be erased and reused so it saves some paper

  • AMAZING!!!

  • "It's flexible UUUUUU !! I bet you say that to all the girls you go out with :) "

you wont be sayin this shiz when hes rich and gettin all the girls cuz he created something like this and it sells millions..

  • well i'd recommend to get some of these "paper" things with a pixel pitch less than 2mm ...

  • It's flexible UUUUUU !! I bet you say that to all the girls you go out with :)

  • does this have spell check?

  • Pretty neat, but I am seriously wanting to contend that this is not e-paper... It may hae similar properties, but epaper is a display. not a novelty white board.

  • I had that

  • I WANT ONE

  • i like turtles

  • lol zombie kid

  • well surely you cant make paper planes out of that

  • its an expensiv ech a scetch

  • Comment removed

  • Oh thats amazin, I actually had an urge to clap whilst watching it write the text - Awesome!

  • You are MAD!!! But a genius apparently.

  • I had a toy that like Doodle when I'm kid!

  • But probably not one like THAT!

  • you are jenious !

  • nice... gotta be hard to program it to write that text... they are like mordern einsteis

  • wow. i didnt expect it to be that fast. cool

  • e-paper haha

  • can you make it draw the mona lisa?

  • I did a project like this at school for science fiar i got 1 place guess what i did...i took pen ink about a pint of it put metal shaving it it with a magnet wait edt about 2 or 3 hours until themetal is s magnetised and they are like microscopic shavings and i put a magnet on my finger and i spelt some workds and it was inky paper :D

  • that is old tech?? wow i would like 1 of them for xmas!

  • I understand.

  • my brain hurts...

  • Wow, that's pretty cool :D

  • really cool - it even changed text size when it went to scientist in evil mad scientist

  • Great, yet another bit of old technology that I want now. :(

    Very cool use for it.

  • Thats awsome. I guess it wouldnt be hard too hard to mount a bar magnet that runs across the paper underneath it with a swtich on the side so you can drag it across to erase the image.

    Awsome mod.

  • alot like cad drafting

  • dude, he just made an automatic magna-doodle.

    whoop.

  • :( I was expecting OLED. Thats not so much e-paper as m-paper.

  • what about putting in normal paper and use the pen. does it draw?

  • I think it's magnetic or something so no...

  • that cool I wish I had on

  • Mommy look what I drew on my E-paper. :)

  • You know what would be cool? If that thing could draw round boobs on a Etch A Sketch, now thats hard!

  • lol i dont know y but i find that comment so hilarious lol

  • haha vielen dank für die 5sekunden äusserst naiven spass als du das teil einfach nicht aus deiner maschine bringst...

  • Nice

  • how do u make it ti wirt

  • Could you make this thing do realy complicated works (asuming you have the time)?

  • i dont understand wtf is he saying

  • No wonder we are having to import engineers and scientists.

  • i wonder if it can draw a picture

  • does any1 understand a thing of what hes saying???!!!!

  • He's a dude from England that plays soccer in LA.

  • you said easy to find, what exactly do you meen?

  • lol sweet

  • great now that will do my 1000 word homework

  • you sound like a genius. Cool vid.

  • dude lemme buy that off of u.. haha its soo cool!

  • Cool but no actual use of it

  • are you?

  • are you?

  • tats amazing WOW!

  • GOOD SH@T!!

  • standard for 1970?!?!?that thing...machine is a genuis!

  • its erasable! woooooooh.

    fun:D

  • i wanna plot bot. i'd have it do my homework for me.

  • Be faster to just do it rather then resetting values about 3000 times

  • Only 1 word for it: Respect!

  • for old tech. it looks kind of cool :P

  • You Guys Are so FUNN!!

  • Lol that looks cool =)

  • Where did you find that vintage 1970 ploter! LOL thats awesome!

  • u could make a program so it works like an ink-jet printer!

  • got it...

  • I'd be very impressed if someone hooked up a computer to this and wrote a program that converted ASCII text into text written by that plotter thing. THAT would be cool! :D

  • that is wat printers do or are

  • >I'd be very impressed if someone hooked up a computer to this and wrote a program that converted ASCII text into text written by that plotter thing.

That's what it's doing here. My program takes ascii text from a computer, programs it onto that chip, and writes it out.

  • Thats kidna sick. How did you program it too do that?

  • You might want to read the full article, linked in the video description.

  • your awsome

  • Wow! I need one! :D

  • Awesome! Subscription to this guy is a must :P

  • EVIL MAD

  • Wicked. Can you make it write more stuff?

  • holy i wan onbe of these

  • cooooooool

  • lol this shiit was fast xP

  • yer a fricken genious

  • i think your cool

  • Somewhat pointless, but fun! I want one!

  • Definately pwns those n00b 5 year olds drawings. ;P

  • BLAH BLAH BLAH i understand none of this

  • good work; glad he's on our side

  • Ha yeah so true. xD!

  • What value is there in something like this?

  • accomplishment

  • this guy is my hero. My room is full of useless machines too. This one is fun though. Nice work.

  • How long does it take you to make all your or some of your creations?

  • >How long does it take you to make all your or some of your creations?

This one took quite a while because I was still learning how to use the microcontroller. The font table was actually pretty complicated to make, too.

  • can it draw a picture

  • hehehe... Love it

  • wOOOOooooo lol

  • its flexabel WOOOooo HAHAHAHa

  • Talk a little too much. :) No worries though, was fun to watch the plotter running. Reminded me of my old VIC=20 printer-plotter.

  • wow, i can write that easier on the original fisherprice thing and it costs a lot less.. only $20 to be exact :-)

  • >wow, i can write that easier on the original

Yeah, but I can plot trig functions faster on it than you can by hand. :)

  • trig yes.... but not regular writing :-)

  • it's flexible wooooooooooooo

  • its flexible Wooo! and erasable:D

  • lol that is from a toy

  • LOL its flexibale wooooo

  • do you set it up to write something !?!?!?!?

  • >do you set it up to write something !?!?!?!?

Yes, it needs to be programmed. It's an open-source project; you can download the source code if you follow the link.

  • omg a small cnc machine!you are genius!

  • yo lo usaria para hacer circuitos integrados, o aujeros en una plaqueta, pero obviamente adaptandole una aujereadora

  • Hi Tech etch-a-sketch LOL

  • touch screens are just two variable resistors! Add 2 more resistor to one to make a voltage divider and you can have a robot that draws what you draw!

  • Another good program for your micro controler could be, an eraser fonction, swap the pen for the magnet and let erase your display.

  • >swap the pen for the magnet and let erase your display.

Unfortunately, there's no way to erase it by moving a magnet over the top-- you'd have to move it underneath the display, and it's not obvious how to do that with the existing setup.

  • WOW

  • nice!!!

  • very nice!

  • Cool, I thought about making something that draws pictures with the Etch-A-Sketch.

  • smart and conserving

  • You want that y?

  • "Flexible woooooooooooooooooooooooooo" lol

  • awsome!! i want 1 now.. im not sure what for but lol why not,umm can you make it like draw a picture you have made on the program paint?

  • You can.

  • Cool!

  • very creative, was quite interesting to watch. How were you able to get that writen. like was that previously programed to write that? Where would I happen to get my hands on one of these babys.

  • Yes, it's preprogrammed. Follow the link in the video description, there's a full how-to.

  • I have a question, did you make this yourself or with someone or just take the video?

    Nice video anyway ^^

  • Oh, it was just me and my tripod. =P

  • "Its flexible... WOOOO!" lmao!

    Nice idea guys!

  • Ok, creative, but why?

  • Wooooo its flexible XD

cool stuff by the way... its very simple but hard to come up with just like a paperclip :)

  • This is awsome, i do stuff like this to (check out my video, electronic lock). I was thinking about doing one of this plotters controlled from a pc, but i would like build the whole thing my self, do you know how the plotbot drives the x-y axys?? servos? steppers?

  • Internally, it uses analog servo motors, essentially DC gearmotors that are interfaced to large potentiometers that sense the position. Building one of your own isn't so very difficult.

  • Yup. 1970's plotter + 1970's kid's toy + modern microcontroller + ???? = PROFIT!

  • But I thought Phase 3 was profit? Cool project. Thanks for sharing! :)

  • Wooo, the future's here!
